What a good video there is a good book out there called the spirit watcher and its an intense paranormal romance with some mystery. Too intense to put down. Now at Lulu.com it's by Brendi Ploof.
4/7 - Houston, TX: Fitzgerald's 4/8 - Austin, TX: Central Presbyterian Church 4/10 - Tallahassee, FL: Club Downunder 4/11 - Athens, GA: New Earth Music Hall 4/12 - Carrboro, NC: Cat's Cradle 4/13 - Harrisonburg, VA: MACRock @ Blue Nile
These guys are amazing. I have known them for years and when I was ten I did a sound mixing/music camp with one of them. It was seriously so amazing. Their music just feels so intense. Gotta love it!
Yo listen up here's a story, About a little guy that lives in a blue world; And all day and all night and everything he sees Is just blue, like him, inside and outside; Blue his house with a blue little window, And a blue corvette, And everything is blue for him, and himself, And everybody around, 'Cos he ain't got nobody to listen to.... im blue here
The Books always seemed to me to be the auditory equivalent of a pristine work of modern architecture, or an exquisite room with beautiful furniture in a city on a sunny day. Weird visualizations, I know.
Anyway, great track and group; looking forward to that new album. There is no new thing under the sun.
@NathantheCynic you're not that cynical... your comment in relation to The Books' video reminds me of that quote from Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest, "Would you be insulted in any way if I said you were the visible personification of absolute perfection." Peace... from Queensland - Australia.
I see what you mean. your take becomes clear towards the end of the video. more specifically, right where the shot of that guy running through the crowd of people comes up.
one if the themes is religion. and how religion can make people do some very, as you put it, crazy things. it is unclear whether or not the books themselves frown upon these things or not. but in the end, it really doesn't matter.
i'm perpetually moved by the seamless use of movement and imagery with the music. listening to the books with your eyes closed is one thing, but having such a vivid and unpredictable picture painted for you is completely overwhelming. it makes me want to cry.
It was this song that made me realize that I was (read WAS) completely enamored with a very special woman. Truly, one of the most beautiful women I have ever known. This song means more to me than I could ever possibly say. My thanks to whomever posted it. Gives me warm fuzzies, even if she and I never ever happened. Life is beautiful. Take. Time.
This video actually made me cry a few tears of joy. Thanks.
The Books are amazing. I love how they can take such candid unprofessional footage and put their music behind it and suddenly imbue all these mundane little clips with, as was mentioned by someone else, a universal and religious sort of meaning. It's like a celebration of everything.
sold out?! yeah because making money is the devil. where is my "the books" coffee mug, and my "the books" bbq apron? i need both! the definition of selling out is when an artist changes his music to make money or please fans.. they haven't changed anything accept having smarter business practices.
ok first of all, woah to the animosity. all im saying is for being a band who, and ive seen them in person, heard them say this, are all about being "green" and helping the environment letting HUMMER use your music for their commercials looks a bit hypocritical. im sorry, i was unaware websters had a definition for "selling out." ill rephrase if its so necessary. its a shame they are nothing more than hypocrits who are more interested in making money than their own beliefs.
Yeah. I kinda have to agree. The first time I saw that hummer ad my jaw hit the floor. I couldn't believe it. Out of all evil businesses, they chose one of the worst to get money from.
why does it bother you people that two men are trying to make a living for themselves? Listen to their music and enjoy it, it's just a fucking TV commercial.
I agree. Where in your music did you even get the idea that they were trying to stand on some moral pedestal? The bottom line is, they are trying to be working artists, and because their records don't sell enough (by the way, do you own their records? you should if you feel passionately about them), they are always looking for any way to support themselves with their music. At the end of the day, that is the most important thing to most artists.
ok so we can't define it as "selling out" their music, but it it's not exactly adhering to their values either. There are plenty of artist who only sell their work to companies they agree with, just look a Shepard Fairey with Obey, he has declined all kinds of offers.
No. Commercials affect your impression and image of said product. If you are a mindless comsumer who follows the crowd and is easily influenced by a good song and some flashy marketing, then I'd agree with your statement.
in this era we are exposed to more advertisements and different forms of information than ever before. The fact that commercials even exist effects the framework of our brain because it requires us to either accept, ignore, or scrutinize the content of available media on a daily basis.
Listen carefully, the African women says: "ce n'est pas la longueur qui fait l'impuissance. L'impuissance, c'est quand ça ne se lève pas (laugh)". Hillarous
No, actually the African women who are stainding together and laughing are talking about thier husbands' penises. That's what I meant. I wasn't interpreting the song in general. Just noting that I found out that that was what they were laughing about from reading an excerpt of one of the menber's of the band talking about it.

one of my favorite videos. i feel like the underlying theme here is the phoniness of religion (not to offend anyone).
very moving. their video style (like their music) is very much distinct.
henryhynes 3 years ago
I think that the underlying theme, if you can really call it that, is that there is beauty and joy in every action, no matter how absurd.
