  • I'm gonna go with Between the Buried and Me, Scale the Summit, and Animals as Leaders... My three favorite bands... Amazing dude, really... You'll meet some peeps some day that can hang with you, and you'll create a badass band, keep it up!

  • hey is this all pure economy? or a random mix of both?

  • Great work,dude!!Big Talent!!Keep on rocking!

  • that's a really cool composition , lots of ideas and a great arrangement...awesome stuff

  • Well Steven, I think it's high time you give us another one of your masterpieces.

  • You have to have a band going man! or a facebook page for this stuff

  • To much solo not enough metal. Ur a fucking badass though

  • gave me a very "between the buried and me" feel

  • amazing ... just ..... AMA-FUCKING-ZING

  • God, if I had a 7, I'd be posting shit like this every 2 hours.

  • K like, why can't people make prog metal like this

  • @CrunchyBaysse because not everyone is Jesus. lmao

  • @CrunchyBaysse Animals As Leaders, Cynic and Scale The Summit. (If you don't already know them, that is)

  • can i have a download of this to put on my ipod?

  • Nice 7 string guitar. I wouldn't have the patience to learn how to play one.

  • @PeterAlbrektsen you don't need any patience, its just a 6 string with one extra string :)

  • @squiffyk7 it feels like a completely different instrument. it took me about a week to get used to

  • @shredfix1993 really? i could play the 7 string pretty much straight away, 8 string took alot of getting used to...

  • I don't doubt we will hear from you soon, love your stuff dude.

  • Are you related to Warren DeMartini?

  • Great song dude, a very nice twist! Who played the drums?

  • I silently envy how you master arpeggios:) sounds good, and most importantly its not overdone. gj

  • oh my god your are a fucking beast man!!wow !!

  • my favorite song between the 3 you did!

  • @shadowvic56 Cool, thanks!

  • Comment removed

  • dude join my band NOW!

  • @SongsByTheBeatles Haha if I had the time, I'd try to be in more bands for sure

  • Everyone check out the song perceptions I wrote!!

  • it's like between the buried and me meets animals as leaders

  • @makingtheband990 Awesome! That's a great complement. Really dig those bands. Thanks!

  • @sjdemartini question, did you ever take music theory or just listen to alot of progressive metal/rock?

  • @makingtheband990 I didn't really do either. I never took lessons on prog metal/rock. I sorta just listened to a lot prog bands and tried learning some prog songs. I took some general guitar lessons and learned very minimal music theory (basic scales/modes, and very basic harmonization). I honestly don't know as much as I'd like. I (literally) play it by ear when I'm writing.

  • Wow, Im impressed!! :D Great song..... Even though I know I shouldn't leave a critic, the only thing you should be improving is the recording and mixing part..... but it is still great! Everything else is ..... AWESOME!

  • @RarelyMediocre Thanks a lot! I appreciate the feedback. I definitely realize there is room for improvement in mixing, mastering, etc. I hope I'll improve over time. I'm happy you liked the song!

  • perfect

  • @bigmanolo1 Awesome, thank you!

  • nice time sigs...i dont feel like counting them out but they flow great

  • @thebanez Haha I don't count them either. All about how it feels, not about how you count it, in my opinion. I'm happy you enjoyed it.

  • great song :d

  • @Platinumham Thank you! Glad you liked it!

  • What do you use to record/mix with ?

  • @skatecrt I use Reaper as my digital audio workstation. Check it out. Great software and fairly inexpensive. Other details are in the description.

  • Nice work. but not metal. maybe progressive rock..

  • @MrStephenjohnmiller definetly metal

  • Not metal dude. But ull grow up one day, your okay..I'd like to hear you play on a real guitar, not a cheesed out one with the action so low that anyone can fake it. Try your stuff on an acoustic with high action and big ass wound strings, then hit me back..I know 4 years old kids that make what ur doing look boring..

  • Comment removed

  • @MrStephenjohnmiller I can't tell if you're trolling or not but in my opinion this can be qualified as metal. Also from what i understand, the action on a guitar has nothing to do with the amount of skill required to play music on it. Its just that with a higher action on a guitar you will have more blisters and a little stronger fingers. No professional guitarists (or at least any I'm familiar with) play guitars that have super high action.

  • @terran1849 Trolling? Geese man try to be your own man and stop repeating bs from youtube. Like I have nothing better to do than leave comments on amatuer videos and musicians..I have more solos and better ones than you'll ever have period. Take advice from a 47 year old then just shut up, your not imporatnat nor are you great. There are 5 year old kids who shred you all to pieces.. Go away please, your the "troll"

  • @MrStephenjohnmiller Nowhere in my comment did I say I was important or great..... and that's fine if there's 5 year old guitarists who can shred. I'm just saying it isn't respectful or constructive to discount this guys song as not metal. Sorry if I offended you.

  • @MrStephenjohnmiller You're* You'd think a 19 year old kid wouldn't have to correct a 47 year old man on his grammar.

  • @MrStephenjohnmiller Alright, you're entitled to your opinion. I wasn't trying to be any genre. Sometimes it helps to label something as "progressive metal" so that people who enjoy a particular sound can find the music. A lot of feedback I get indicates that this is the case. I just write tunes that I like, and I upload them so that other people are free to listen to them. Skill isn't in who can make himself out to be the toughest guitarist or who uses the highest action.

  • @skatecrt Thanks man!

  • @MrStephenjohnmiller Glad you enjoyed the music at least.

  • Hey men, can write this song on guitar pro 5 plis!

  • @elfeloesmaster felo_mac_plata_17@hotmail.es

  • @elfeloesmaster Thanks for your interest, but I'm sorry, I don't have tabs available for these songs at the moment. I might put out tabs when I release my EP next year. Stay tuned!

  • Can't wait to see this live.

You look very much alike, you guys.

    Great Job, btw.

  • @joemontana88 Maybe some day I'll play live. No band at the moment, and no music officially released. Hope to have my EP out next year. Glad you liked the music though, stay tuned!

  • Hey, pretty good song! I really liked it, it has the perfect "arythmic" type of progressive genre.

  • @Keengankl I'm happy you liked the song! Thanks for the comment.

  • just curious what tuning do you use? sorry if you have already answered this but i didn't see it in the description.

  • @rockr500 It's a sevenstring in standard tuning: BEADGBE

  • Epic playing man!

  • @atornmind Thanks! Glad you liked it!

  • Sir can you please help me, i have also laptop windowa 7 (64-bit) and guitar Guitar rig (virtual instrument) ... the question is how can i play Guitar rig while recording video into my laptop webcam, no amps and mic use, i want directly into my laptop... any idea Sir.. please,,

  • @crisvstuper Sorry! It's been quite a long time since you asked your question, so I hope you've since figured it out. Anyway, I don't think you should try to record guitar into the webcam and use Guitar Rig. You should get a cheap USB audio interface or something if you want to make some lower end recordings with Guitar Rig. Hope that helps

  • 13 suckers and fans of bieber

  • @sergiRH1 Haha glad you enjoyed the music.

  • this is quite freaking awesome:D

  • @Rhandahl Thanks! Glad you liked it

  • If you re re recorded this underwater,BRUTAL

  • @MajesticMist Haha next time ;) thanks for the comment

  • Hey dude :P dunno if ull read this but a while ago i asked for advice on a sevenstring to buy :P in the end i went with the Schecter hellraiser C7 FR...absolutely adore it and if its possible id love to learn this song :P do u send out tabs??

  • @samrooks123 Good choice! I'm a big fan of Schecter guitars, seeing as I have a Hellraiser C1-FR. And at the moment, I don't have any tabs I'm releasing. I'm planning on getting an EP out next year, and when I do, I'll probably put out some tabs as well. Stay tuned! Thanks for the interest!

  • Sounds amazing!! Keep it up! -Jay

  • @TheAtlasStone2009 Thanks! I appreciate it!

  • wow :O

  • @czhousehold Thanks :)

  • Dude major props this song should be on a album, This is the kind of music I love playing I am moving to Seattle to play these kind of shows, it's cool to see that there are people that really understand this kind of music

  • @augustus8807 Thanks a lot. I really appreciate your feedback. Keep up the prog metal!

  • nice dude sounds like BTBAM and Scale the Summit

  • @cooper2850 Quite the complement, thank you!

  • Let's start a band!!!

  • @MClinton84 Haha if only I had the time!

  • Wide neck on that ESP. Is that a 7 or 8 string? I couldn't tell on the vid.

  • @marqlove "In case you are curious, my guitar is an ESP LTD MH-307 (seven string with a floyd rose, currently out of production; I got mine on eBay)." He said what it was in the description. Look next time.

  • @CaptainCraniumMusic No need to be snide, ya prick. I vroke my glasses and won't the new ones until next week. It was just a question.

  • @marqlove Sorry, didnt mean to be a dick or anything its just a lot of people on Youtube ask something that was already answered in the description. It kind of grinds my gears ya know? But in your case its all good because you broke your glasses and I know what a b**** that can be.

  • @CaptainCraniumMusic No worries. I guess I could have been nicer as well. Had a shitty few weeks, and was not exactly being a sweetheart to anyone. SO - I have an M-207 ESP Ltd, and love it. But don't you find them to be a bit heavy?

  • @marqlove Uhm... I wouldnt know, I dont own one. Sounds like you think that I'm the guy playing in the vid? Haha, I wish. I'm an Ibanez kind of guy. I own a IC400 and I think that's one heavy guitar, its really meaty around the neck so it likes to slide down if its not being held.

  • @marqlove Not sure if this was directed at me, but anyway, I think the weight of my ESP MH-307 (the one in this video) is a decent weight. Doesn't bother me anyway.

  • sweet song

  • @thepetsku98 Thank you! Much appreciated

  • REALLY sick song. A little too much like BTBAM for me though. I mean I love that band like no other, but I'd like to hear something with more of your mind in it.

  • @sjdemartini Dude! You are awesome, really!

  • Did you hire someone to play the drums & bass? If not, can you please tell me what you did? Thanks!

  • are you in standard eadgbe tuning?

  • @clonewolf4 It's a seven string standard tuning, so: BEADGBE. Thanks

  • porfavor dime con que programa editas tus videos como ases para que tu trabajo se oiga tan bien y sobre todo nesesito saber con que programa ases tus ritmos de bateria si puedes desirme todo eso porfavor te lo agradeseria mucho

  • @trujasification I'd recommend any of the nicer video editing programs: Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere Pro, or Sony Vegas Pro. They'll all get the job done really easily for making videos like mine. Thanks and hope that helps. Drum programming: check out EZ Drummer Drumkit from Hell, and check out Superior Drummer 2.0.

  • porfavor dime con que programa editas tus videos como ases para que tu trabajo se oiga tan bien y sobre todo nesesito saber con que programa ases tus ritmos de bateria si puedes desirme todo eso porfavor te lo agradeseria mucho

  • Nice job as always man

  • @sixstringking128 Thanks a lot! Glad you thought so

  • it sounds alot like scale the summit, but i love it

  • @Bozo2151 Glad you like it!

  • Quick question. What key is this in?

  • @o0r4nger0o Predominantly B minor. Hope that helps!

  • Excellent job!

  • @ERJ94 yes it dose

  • A small critique, that acoustic part was out of place I think. Otherwise: amazing composition. That triple guitar part at 2:40 is beautifully written man.

  • @LlamaTheory i think it sounded great

  • @LlamaTheory Alright fair enough. Glad you liked the part at 2:40 and the song generally. Thanks for the comment!

  • If you're ever in the Uk and want to jam with a drummer, hook me up.

  • @TheMelvynExperience No plans to be in the UK at the moment, but if the time comes... haha Thanks!

  • awesome job man although i didnt like the drums

  • @miki23497 Alright you're entitled to that opinion haha. Did what I could on minimal budget. Maybe upgrade to Superior 2.0 in the future...

  • the intro looks a bit like pat metheny style do you like him?

  • @MammonBlood Hmmm I have listened to Metheny a little bit. But wouldn't say he's a big influence. Thanks for the comment though

  • Are you from berklee?

  • @lWitchkingl Nope, UC Berkeley. Not studying music. Just play as a hobby. Hope you liked the song!

  • dood this is amazing

  • @desecrated070 Thanks!!!!

  • totaly kick ass bro!/m/!keep this up!u play ina band??

  • Hey man sweet song. I love it. I'm just getting into some more progressive stuff and was wondering if you had any tips? Cause I wanna incorporate it into my style I have already.

  • @clanbigger4 Work on your minor/major modes and scales. And practice arpeggios and sweep picking. Those are useful skills I think. Play what sounds good to you! Hope that helps

  • Not only is this pretty damn good. But talent like this should age like wine. Keep it up bro

  • @Dreamlastbreath Haha thanks a lot! Glad you liked it!

  • Hey, this is great music! What a talent! Would you mind if I used some of your music to put in the background of my motorbiking videos? I don't make money off them and I will credit you of course!

  • It's awsom man! Keep it up

  • AWESOME!

  • hey man this reminds me of Cynic,r they ur influence?

  • Exellent !!!!!!! J'adore !!! <3

  • Amazing dude, you're really talented :))

  • nice ESP, 7-string horizon?

  • Damn, you're fucking awesome, man. Makes me want to break out my Gordian Knot CD...

  • This song just made me sub to you :D Great song broski \m/\m/ So fucking proggy and amazing I love it.

  • Out of curiosity what is it that you go to UC Berkeley for? I'm going to assume for recording arts or something of that nature, because your overall mixes are wonderfully done.

  • Boy did I hit the motherlode. Steven you are a true talent and I look forward to hearing more original compositions. I also like the Buckethead favour you have incorporated into your tunes. Your gift is in creating melodic tunes. Stay away from the mindless riffs.

  • immediately, BTBAM came to mind. Sorta sounds a bit busy at times. Letting it breathe and foster is never a bad thing. As a progressive metal listener I dont just listen to music, but listen to music as a story. It speaks. Once you know how to make music talk, youre unbeatable and it sounds like youre just about there. Keep on man!

  • Nice!!

  • soo far i have been listening to your song,..this is the best>.<among the best....

great job dude,...by the way,are u also plays the drum???

  • Oh my god you are fucking awesome! Favorite! And I subscribe.

  • nice one man!.....im gonna try put my album up soon, although it will sound amaturish in comparision!...so please check out my page in the future :)

  • another awesome song :) seriously keep this on! :) what do you use for the guitar recording?

  • yea dude always writing good tunes if you need lyrics or a singer let me know

  • @ERJ94 Sweet. Glad you enjoyed it

  • How can people dislike this? it's amazing! I've been trying to write something on my bass but, I can't get anything right. You make it look so easy. awesome job, keep it up.

  • @ArpeggiosFTW Thanks a lot for your comment. Writing for me is a really slow process. Keep at it!

  • hey man i have been playing guitar for a while and i finally just bought a seven string a recently i was wondering what tunning do you like to play in best?

  • @DeadUpRising I've only ever tuned my 7-string to standard tuning. Some of the artists I listen to drop the low B down to an A. I haven't tried it myself, but that can allow you to do some neat things. Hope that helps and congrats on the 7-string purchase!

  • Dude you SUUUUCK! Hahahah JK DUUUUDE YOU ARE AMAZING! I had to subscribe! I can't believe someone can be this talented! keep up the good work!!!

  • @SatansVlog Fantastic. Thanks for leaving a comment and subscribing. I appreciate the feedback

  • @sjdemartini

Hey man this is fucking bad ass song!

Any chance would you release your Guitar Rig sounds?

  • Your music calms me lol. I feel so peaceful inside.

  • @themunk100 Haha well thank you. Glad you like it

  • you should do a tutorial on tapping

  • @DOOM666Savage I'm glad you liked it. I'm not planning on doing any tutorials at the moment. Instead, I'm working on getting some more songs written and recorded. But thanks for the interest

  • i am inlove

  • @deaddrummerkid Haha glad you liked it

  • animals as leaders influence?

  • @pee12345 AAL is definitely one of my favorite bands. Thanks for leaving a comment
