I will do this on my van, just got a new Eee PC a week ago and trying to find AC plug at cafes is a pain and ties me couple hours to charge my laptop. I live in my van and everything needs to be working on 12V so I will by this kind of car charger soon.
Thanks for the clip, hardwiring as you said is better than dealing with that awful cig lighter DC plug.
I bought the charger and it worked for a while but then it did not supply enough current while using the laptop.
3 amps are needed to power my Eee PC 1000 while charging it at the same time as using the laptop.
I measured 2 amps first and I thought I can put up with is but then later it took ages even charge the laptop without power on so I measured again and this time the current was only about 300mA!
Sweet! - Just what I needed. I had been thinking of turning an Eee PC into a carputer but hadn't really seen anyone do it yet and I had some questions. I think i heard you say that yours would be permanently mounted in your car. I'm looking to do a removable so I can just snatch and go! Thanks again for this clip!

please remember that you need to reverse the polarity from what I said in the video. I had the polarity backwards. Thanks for the comment!

Yeah, so the side with the fuse is indeed the hot and the red wire is the ground, dispite the stupid red colored wire.
