ITS FUNNY THAT I NEVER BECAME INTERESTED IN THIS FILM UNTIL I WAS DOING RESEARCH ON THE CONDITION AUTISM FOR MY ENGLISH CLASS AND FOUND THAT HIS CHARACTER WAS A AUTISTIC MAN THA COULD USE HIS CONDITION TO COUNT CARDS IN A CASINO. ITS ACTUALLY PRETTY AMAZING CONSIDERING I HAVE A NEPHEW THATS AUTISTIC AND THEY SHARE SUM OF THE SAME CHARACTERISTICS
I like this movie. It is a good movie. I have Asperger's and while it is by far not as severe as the autism that Raymond has, I can totally understand his thoughts and behaviour and it made me recognise many details from my childhood time.
I'm told that this scene was ad-libbed, or at least unscripted. Two legendary actors, one half the age of the other, in a film that is easily an instant classic.
I've been told I have Asbergers syndrome, but I'm not really obsessive over stuff like that. I guess I'm obsessed with getting the best deal on some things. So, if I were Raymond, I wouldn't care which store they underwear was bought at, but might not want to buy it if it was rippoff even if I wasn't paying for it.;This is by far the best scene of the movie though IMHO.
i love this movie i think raymond is adorable although after rays outburst at the airport i was scared shitless that he was gonna start screaming again at any moment it must be really hard to look after a person with autism and fairplay to people who can manage it without yelling at them like charlie!!
I have Asperger's Syndrome (lifelong type of Autism) so I can definitely relate to how Dustin Hoffman plays this character so well. He richly deserved his Oscar for doing this first-class performance to a T.
I also love the great bit where Raymond and Charlie are sitting in the cafe, and Raymond writes down in his diary about Charlie: "Squeezed, pulled and hurt my neck in 1988". Really, really funny.
My daughter has autism and I can soooooo relate to this scene. It is so frustrating to deal with a person like this, but you just have to tune it out and walk away for a moment. Makes no sense to keep going round and round about it. I believe the definition of the word suffering is what I deal with everyday with my daughter.
Oh yeah. An instant cinema classic. The Terminator meets Rain Main.

If I was Raymond, I would've said "O.K., I'll wait until we get my boxer shorts."
Why bother going to K-Mart at 400 Oak St. in Cincinnati? I want to see the part that Raymond said, "K-Mart sucks!"
