  • Cruze Volt, lol.

  • @Mi16t another fail ...really you guys are pissin me off ..cause all you people drive some bullshit cars from overseas and wonder why americas in debt..nigga cause you dumbasses wanna buy toyotas ..un-American bitches

  • @Zeroto90 get the fuck u drive a 1994 corolla you betta get out my face wit dat shit..that volt look good. No lieeee

  • @spidermath005 you need go hopp off gm as well da fuck u talkin bot they let people down..cause 1 people love the ford focus,,the chevy maliubu and,,all cadis..so shut the fuck up all dem is under gm

  • @jason1973tl u need to hopp the fuck off gm . U got my car company fucked up ..

  • at 0:05 it sounds like he says im tampon

  • I really think this could be a different version of the volt possibly the final production

  • I would NOT say the actual production version of the Volt is a VERY good looking car, i would say, it looks alot like a turd

  • @DroidNoid over priced? quite but 40 miles was based on a survey. they found out the average person does travel more than 40 miles in a day so you potentially could go months without using gas. but if you go further that underpowered engine isnt meant to spin the wheels. its to generate more electricity for the engine while sipping gasoline. its actually a smarter idea than an electric because of the range. using only electricity, you have all the positive without the negative of low range.

  • But whether this car will be a game changer or not ? cant say..

    a) cuz of the warranty (3 year bumper to numper and 5 years powertrain..even FORD beats THAT)

    b) cuz of the RIDICULOUS pricing, GM wants a minimum $32,780 car to be a game changer in a market where people have trouble getting their credit approved for $17,000 car

    ~Chronicles of a Mitsubishi Salesman

  • its actually not a half bad mix, you get some good standard features like navi and a six speaker Bose audio but then again you miss out on some too..like heated seats ( I live in Canada )..This by the way isnt the Volt, the volt looks like a mix between camry/corolla/civic take your pick but its not the same as the one they showed in the concept version, however definitely nicer than their other "smiling" cars..The design from the back is decent.

  • Detroit should only build one car,and be ordered to build it the way as it is now without mods!

    Google

    from-canada-to-mexico-on-one-tank-of-diesel

(copy and paste it and dont remove the lines)

    and click on jalopink result!

  • AT 41-44 thousand dollars...only the Government will buy them(with your hard earned tax dollars), use them for a year or so and sell them at a GSA saled after they realize they are not practical for everyday use like a Honda hybrid or Toyota Prius is at HALF the price! Your Government at work..wasting...wasting..wasting...your tax dollar!

  • so many stupid people.mi16t, i doubt you could make a paper airplane and you knock gm. What do you drive, You know it has to be foreign. do you work> do you get paid in dollars. You idiot. I am surprised you can read. GM will rule again, mark my words.

  • did you see how steamy the windows were at the beginning of the video?? o_O jeez, someones been gettin it ON ECO STYLE! X3

  • if you payed attention they say that its the mule which means that this isnt the final body is the chevy cruise with the motor of the volt. pay attention dont put down american companies.

  • if this was a toyota or honda, no one would be complaining. People right now for some reason always put down GMC

  • @Hummers222

B-Cuz GMC doesn't know, and Toyonda does know.

-- Know refers to knowing how to build a good car --

  • @Hummers222 GMC SUCKS!!!

  • @Hummers222 It is only because they lied about the Volt. The gas engine does power the wheels. It is nothing more than a GM Prius, it is not an electric car.

  • @jason1973tl but it um... how do i say this, it is an electric car. it mainly runs on electricity, it has and electric drivetrain

  • @Hummers222 perhaps because gm put down people for over 20years...

  • Umm thats a Chevy Cruize, not a volt, what happened to the design??? LOLOLOLOL

    Another GM failure. Surprise Surprise.

  • Lol they killed they're eletric car and i don't think they will release the volt, anyway it.s a failure

  • @mi16t you fail!!!! you see VOLT TECHNOLOGY INSIDE!!! hahaahahah omg

  • @r3dw0lf88

No, you are clearly stupid, with the way GM is doing don't be surprised if they use the Cruize body for the Volt. The Volt was meant to be its own car, not a Cruize, so by them using Cruiz mules, they are clearly testing cheaper body alternatives.

    FUCKING TOOL

  • hahahahah you're really funny .. they just don't want to show the final concept .. so they use a Cruize body with Volt stuff!! hahahahha

  • he explained why in the video idiot

  • mi16t, the Volt mules were converted Cruizes. They said they were mules at the beginning of the video.

  • Dry up the Middle Eastern Oil Terror Pool.

America is slow to start and fast at the finish line. One day, the oil dragon will dry and they can get back to having a relationship with their camels.

  • i wonder if my future children will drive pure electric cars and america will have atlist 65% of all cars to be electric.

  • peak oil is already here...I think it played a major role in causing the current economic recession... it wont be long till the naysayers will hold their noses and trade in their rides for a car with this type of powertrain.

will it be the volt that grabs the market share when gas returns to above 5$ a gallon? do you think that the Japs are sitting on their hands?

first adopters always pay more. but down the road prices will fall to accomodate value buyers...technology always matures.

  • I am just glad that finally American brands took some steps to save planets resources

  • I've been reading up on the chevy volt, it looks like they have all the bases covered. The cost will be 80 cents for the first 40 miles and then 50MPG once the battery runs out and the engine kicks in. They also have cold and hot weather figured out as well. I have high hopes for this car.

  • No. Just no.

    GAS GUZZLERS FTW!!

  • the more alternative fuel vehicals we have the more we'll be able to keep our gas guzzlers.

Think about how horses were once used for work and transportation. Because of the car we now use horses just for pleasure. The hybrids and electric vehicals will do the same thing.

  • It's just depressing to me. :(

  • stop quoting leno

  • it's a good website isn't it? I should quote him if i use one of his lines but it makes sense.

  • yeah i guess, and kinda nice to see a leno qoute among ABSLOLUTE HOARDES of clarkson quotes... i think he killed them on tg last season!!!

  • yeah leno doesn't make such wild exagerations. Did you see leno on top gear last season?

People make the mistake of seeing him as a journalist and not an entertainer, I love him though.

  • 150 cars and only 1 woman? thank god for the internet, eh? not showing it here! Come on, bbc! and on his new show the guests are in a electric fiesta ( i think its a fiesta) around a mini track to set lap times. dont know where he got the idea from, do you? and he is both journalis and intertainer, he writes reviews for the suday times, us cars usually like the ssc aero and some hygdrogen truck. lucky bastard is all i have to say!!!!

  • This car is Chevrolet Cruze ( in Europe ) whit the same engine technology as Volt . The real Volt is different.

  • The so-called "superior" Nissan Leaf has just now been revealed...how long will it take to reach production?? A year? Two? The GM Volt has been road tested by teams of drivers for at least 18 Months now. You see them prowling the streets of Detroit....those flat black "testing" cars...on the odd-ball platforms of course. I think they will sell just fine...& blow-out the weenie econobox Prius.

  • Nissan already built a superior "eco" car called the Nissan Leaf, and it gets an "equivalent" of 367 mpg. The Leaf will be priced competitively with the Toyota Prius.

People who are interested in "eco" cars are unwilling to pay $40,000 for a Chevy Volt. If the Volt is as consistently unreliable as past GM cars, then the Volt will have high maintenance costs.

  • Can you say OIL?

Young man: "That means 60,000 isn't very many vehicles..."

Bob Lutz: "No, I agree with you. I think its a conservative figure, but we need to let somebody screen some of our technology, and lets face it, the only ones who are going to be able to use it [ARE RICH]. "

Young man: "Are you still thinking mid 30's?"

Bob Lutz: "Naw, I think we're figuring just below 40..."

Starting minute 3:46 in this YouTube video. Listen to him

  • This car looks like a euro spec accord. It's a good thing that they decided to stick with am existing body instead of something totally expensive to run with. However I do feel as if this car isn't going to do to well in competing against the prius. The starting price is what's going to be a real challenge.

  • i heard these things will be like 40k :/

while toyota hybrids are like 22k

note, you still have to pay for the electricity on this thing, plus repair(find a mechanic who knows how to work on these things)

I dont think it is worth the money, you might as well buy a 1,000 dollar old car, and save 39,000 right off the bat.

Toyota at least is more affordable

  • CREDIBILITY? NONE. WHY? YOU HEARD.

If you're gonna talk numbers, do research first. "I heard" isn't truth, it's opinion. As far as you know, the Chevy Volt could be a Toyota rebadge. How would that make you feel?

  • wow, someone is really sensitive about this car, so are you going to buy it? maybe daddy can pay for it huh?

Bottom line is this car is going to be expensive buying and mantaining. And I could spend a few hours researching this car, but it would be a waste of time.

I shared my opinion, never said it was a fact. I dont think the first early models will be great, I think theres going to be a lot of problems, thats what happens when you start making hybrids a decade later then the competition.

  • Hahaha, Daddy can pay for it. Hahahaha. Every car I've ever owned I payed for. Don't try to bring me down into your own stupidity. Bet you couldn't even dream of the cars and engines I've built.

    Back to you.

What you heard. What you heard was a shit sandwich and I highly doubt any modern front wheel drive econobox is even going to come CLOSE to 40k, unless you're snobbish enough to buy it. Remember what I said here, ECONOBOX, excluding luxury fwd.

  • And no, I am not sensitive about this car, I am sensitive to the fact that nobody seems to get their fucking facts or numbers, ESPECIALLY numbers, straight on youtube. You ignorant assholes come in packs.

Correction, 98% of all youtubers are fucking retarded.

I could care less about the car, but the brand I do. And you probably forgot about the EV-1, because you say GM is a decade late, while you should correct yourself: Everyone else is a decade late: GM came first.

  • please, ANYONE

would putting a dual exhaust and new carb on an volt ridiculous or smart or...?

  • oh yea....we will be wanting are clunkers back

as soon as we see what batteries will cost...

it wont be free...and thats like Mr goodwench is smart enuff? to work on it

GM makes a caddy that gets 45mpg,its only in the UK

  • why hell did you use and abouse that car see it in 20 years teenagers can drive one with out kiling it ,,im a jack ass what can i say

  • PLUS ha ha, the guy in the passenger seat probably works from GM, and is holding a gun to the testers head. If he says one bad thing! POW!

  • thats a chevy cruze with the volts engine

  • lol...looks like they changed their american prototype to look more like a japanese car - this looks like an infiniti/lexus hybrid...both outside and inside.

  • I don't care if it can fly, we want QUALITY!

  • wait, the volt is rear wheel drive???

  • Honda looks a lot like this car cruze

  • Only thing that sucks is that the technology for these kinds of cars cost so damn much. $40,000 is out of the price range for a very large portion of the US. But at least it is a step in the right direction, looks like chevy and ford are finally catching up in the way of economy cars.

  • You are right, the idea is good, but the price is too high, think they're going to say "make debts, but buy one to save GM".

Lithium prices will surge too, if cars like this have success, and guess who has the greatest lithium mines? Evo Morales, undoubtedly a great friend of U.S...

  • I am just glad that we are going in the right direction and getting away from cars that are shit for mileage and the environment. They way I look at it we can make missles go thousands of miles away and blow some terrorist off of a porta poty but we can't get cars like this on the road and cheap? I am looking forward to the future to see what else they come up with.

  • Too bad they're so expensive, requires a large down payment and borrowers must have AAA credit. Fail

  • The Volt has already been dubbed "Grandma's electric car" by automobile analysts

  • 2010 Good Luck! America

  • Good video.. great car! I'm ready for no transmission ... no shifting!

I hope they have a electric only model that I can buy. They could leave out the ICE engine and put a larger battery.. that would be nice. Although 40 miles is all I need each day.

In fact the three cars in my family very seldom go over 40 miles a day. This would be the best commuter car you could buy. No shifting ... no smells... smooth and quiet... sounds good to me.

  • If we can get over 40 mile range with plug in battery power this will get the ball rolling and with keeping the gasoline motor in play we will have less pushback from the government (lost gasoline tax revenue) and the oil lobbyist. This is a big pill for them to take and we need to start somewhere and the technology has to be developed on an industrial scale.

  • Except 40,000 dollars for a commuter car sounds a bit outlandish to me, I'd gladly pay 4,00 dollars for a clunker that could take me to work and back all for less then 15 Dollars or less a week. This is only taking America in the wrong direction, but yes; MORE ECONOMIC CARS, AT MORE ECONOMIC PRICES! Could you imagine the pretty penny it would cost you to repair a vehicle like this? As opposed to oil and moving parts, now you have to deal with fuses and computers? The future is bleak.

  • Chevette is an American Made and American designed car

    the Chevy Cruze is NOT

  • The closer they get to production, the UGLIER it gets. What happened to the good looking prototype? This is hideous. Why not put an electric motor in a Chevette!

  • Thats a chevy cruze.. hints the name. MULE its got the technology of the volt inside of it.

  • It's yust like they don't want to sell it

  • They want to sell it, but they can't afford to build it at a cost that is competitive or marketable. Their build expenses are MUCH higher than the Asian competition so the bang for the buck will NEVER be there.

  • this isn't the look of the Volt retard, its just the technology of the volt placed in an already existing chevrolet platform for testing. The actual production VOLT is a very very very good looking car

  • @Tekkin23 I did see that this "look" is another loser economy car and not the Volt. The production Volt is STILL ugly. Fortunately, not as ugly as the Prius, but then, for $40K it probably will not matter. BTW, What's a Volt Retard? Did you personalize yours?

  • @Tekkin23 Hhahaa they used a crappy Cruze as the platform for testing? Jesus fucking christ.

GMC makes ugly as sin cars. Theeeyyyy ssssuuuuccccckkkkkkkkkkk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @LOLDISNEYLAND not really i have a cruze for my bday and it is ok

  • @liljayo99 oh really? ok then, I'm probably over exaggerating.. enjoy.

  • Even the Volt mules look nice. There's an opinion about how electric cars won't sell.

Well there's no accounting for people3s lack of knowledge. The world reached peak oil at $150 a barrel and will soon be even higher as demand in 3rd world countries increases. While some American's can afford gas at any price, the rest of us must find ways to reduce our dependency.

During 07 and 08 America needed 87 million barrels a day but only imported 85 million. Do you see the problem ?

  • I'm sure the oncoming drivers appreciated the sight of a weaving auto approaching them head-on. Yikes!!

  • Too little, too late!!

  • I would buy this car ,I'm retired never go anywhere

over 40 miles....Never buy gas OMG

    Unless vacation different story

  • es guena

  • id buy it it looks nice and buetiful

  • The looks of the Volt just screams, "Geezer-mobile!" It has that boring exterior design that old people like (similar to Buicks).

AutoObserver described the Volt as, "Grandma's electric vehicle."

Edmunds said the Volt was, "Electrifyingly Bland."

  • meh, i like plain cars.

  • i'd rather drive a HUMMER

  • i'd buy this

  • i wish i could buy one but i know i can't 'cause GM doesn't sell cars that people want they only sell cars that they wanna sell...

  • What's the big deal?

The first electric and hybrids cars appeared almost a hundred years ago!

Wanna impress me? Offer me a Mr. Fusion or hoover conversion kit!

  • in what form? they could never have been anything like they are today. like diesel cars from '82 to today, they are almost nothing alike anymore. you want to be impressed? do some research and learn something about what you are talking about first.

  • There's a museum in the Netherlands displaying both!

Range of the first electric vehicles is ofcourse a bit limited in comparison, but it's the same principle.

One might expect some more progress during a hundred years.

Again, I'm not impressed by an electric motor linked to a battery.

It's endearing to see it amazes you so much.

  • The body of this car is of the Chevy Cruze, NOT that of the production VOLT. If using this for those purposes, I may NEVER buy gas for this car, and can change the oil for the small gasoline motor which powers the electric drivetrain, in my driveway.

It has no transmission...electric motors are their own transmission. I also change my own brakes. If this regenerative braking needs to have a technician change them, ( maybe) so be it. This car pays for itself in 5 years for me. Go GM. Viability

  • In this bad global economy, Ford, with it's new Fusion Hybrid, has knocked Toyota out of the #2 in U.S. sales. People are yearning for this type of car. This Chevy/ Holden VOLT and Opel/ Vauxhall AMPERA will do well. With U.S. govt giving 7,500 rebate on the purchase of this, I'll be getting one primarily for going to work and shopping. My job is only 3 miles away.

This is UNLIKE any car before it. It is correctly termed a EREV-Extended Range Electric Vehicle. Transformers 2 has a blue 1-NICE

  • I HATE IT THAT I SEE LOTS OF ELECTRIC FUEL'ed VEHICLES AND DONT SEE THEM ON THE STREETS here OR ANYWere!!

  • what is the range on one of those?how much power is there?

  • its 2 years I see the volt advertised every where, 2 years that I read about the specs, and you ask ? seriously, no offense, google it

  • where i am its not advertised at all and i havent really searched much on this car ok

  • the car doesnt look great but its obviously going to be worked on. its amazing that gm could make a 100% electric car! GM kicks ass so screw all you dumbasses who dont know shit about cars

  • R.I.P GM

  • R.I.P GM (Government Motors).

  • GM ain't going no where!!! General Motors than made shit those japanese and european fucks wish they can make

  • well.. clearly those so called "fucking" european and japanese cars are making better cars than GM any day..The are also richer..

  • What ever dude, i will say GM should of reduced it's work force years ago that's the reason they are in financial trouble now because of the competition. I'm not a GM spokesman nor do I work for them, but I can say GM cars are far from being junk!

  • Why should GM reduce it's work force? If anything, they should replace their managers. If GM had managers that knew what they were doing, they wouldn't have been in this mess. I mean seriously , any other company would have fixed themselves a long time ago. GM just keeps hiring the same old people over and over to ruin the management decisions.

  • The factory workers are working hard. In all the documentaries, it shows that the workers are working hard. The managers make mistakes after mistakes.

  • Only Germany and Japan.

  • That's not necessarily true.

You only have to look at the brands from each manufacturer to get an idea of the quality of the vehicle. In other words, Lexus would be comparable to BMW, Cadillac, and Buick, whereas Toyota would be comparable to MINI, Chevy, Ford, Honda, VW, etc.

Just because people THINK cars made in the USA are of lower quality because they once were, it doesn't truly mean that they are. You'll find that newer USA cars (last 10yrs) perform excellent. That is my experience.

  • thats not the volt its the chevy cruze

  • its a mule

  • The only thing I learned from this video is that the defogger doesn't work very well. The windows were fogged up most of the time. I mean really, all he said was that it can turn and accelerate and that the battery is in the back...

  • well chevrolet...you shoulda told the oil industry to fuck off and kept making the chevy volt back in the day...people would have bought them....now you have to sissy foot around to save your company.

  • THATS THE NEW CHEVROLET CRUZE with the VOLT drivetrain, the volt exterior is much different!

  • yes that is correct it resembles the cobalt.

  • my god the interior is an accord/tsx copy lol

  • it is. and the front looks like an accord, and the back looks like a civic and accord.

  • do you know how ignorant that sounds?

  • look at his name rtardbox more like retardbox enough said.

  • wow u dont desrve to be an american your only an american if you buy american things in america cars are everything!!! dodge rulles!! go jump on a plane with all your little ricer buddies and get lost!!! and for the record a corvette zr1 will beat a gtr any day!!!

  • i do hate most american cars but the 1991-1993 dodge ram 250 5.9 cummins is awesome and the zr1 would fuck up a gtr

  • lol isnt zr1 5.7L?

  • noooo.. 6.2 or 6.3l supercharged

  • its a crate 350. lt1

  • ha ha

  • dude your one racist pick eh

ever thing the way your thinking is why people dislike americans and your products

  • Bad GM

  • Why did they have to go and make the volt look like a piece of $hit?

    The concept was perfect.

  • dont drive that... drive the cts v that was behind you

  • Now it looks like a Cruze with a hybrid, Accord styling anyone?

  • The main problem with GM is their internal bureaucracy and how that directly influences the product quality, and ability to develop new technologies in a timely manner. Come June 1st, GM is going to be in even MORE trouble when the least efficient businesses out there, the U.S. Government and the UAW, are taking over...

  • Kinda looks like the new Honda Accord from the front.

  • Comment removed

  • It is hideous (both cruze and volt), it shares most of components with Opel Insignia, but why it couldn't look like Insignia?

  • FORD FUSION HYBRID - 81.5 MPG. THE END.

  • fusion! those are a piece of shit!!!!

  • Why are they a peice of shit? Or are you just an idiot that speaks out of your ass?

  • Comment removed

  • I introduce you,

the first hybrid vehicle that is not ugly.

I'd take that over Civic and Prius anyday.

  • I don't know if it's just me or not, it seems like you can hear a lot of road noise, especially the road bumps. It's probably due to the fact that the gas engine is not on so road noise is more noticeable.

  • Those commenting on the looks should be aware that is not how the Volt is going to look. That is the Volt technology in a Chevrolet Cruze body.

  • Thats the test car AKA "Mule"

That means that cars was used to test the motor / engine / technology....ok

Thats not the final production car listen before you comment please...gosh.

  • WTF?!! that's not a Volt that's a Cruze.

  • they made it look ugly, now it more looks like a focus or a prius more then anything else

  • I love it when they say these cars are "green". The procedure that makes the batteries for these cars releases more pollution than any gas car will in its life time.

At any rate, electric is the future, both in economy and performance (some may disagree, but fact is fact). The electric motor technology is there, it is just batteries that need to catch up. Don't believe me? Fine, look it up, or ask me, electric is the future, for more reasons than one.

  • look in the background at 2:40 its the cadilac cien! the coolest cadilac ever i havnt seen it in a long time

  • whoa lol i thought that was the cien too! but its actually the converj concept.

  • GM has a long history of creating and supporting too many brands. When you have such a diverse product line as GM, you lose your sense of identity. GM Wanted to be everything, but in the end became everyone's nothing. Research their first bleak encounter with their finances back in the early 1900s and you will see. This company didn't learn anything from history and is now suffering. However, I still like their cars.

  • exactly. that's why they've had to kill pontiac and are trying to sell other brands. and in addition to the lack of identity, the diversity of the brands was lacking. GM was cannibalizing itself by throwing cars on the same platforms throughout every brand they carried, essentially making the same car with a different badge on it. that coupled with over productions and poor management of brands, pontiac being my main beef, has led to this current sad state

  • Amen.

  • its gone through soooo many modifications...the body looks completely different...o.O

    and yeah

the long-term benefits totally outweigh the initial price, along with the fact that there will be refunds and breaks for anyone who purchases this car

  • not when you have to replace the battery

  • omg, u have to replace the battery???? why that would take a whole hour of our precious lives from us!!!!!!!!!! thank god people like u and every other electric hater out there still uses a gas engine with around 200 moving parts not including the transmission and what not that can break at any given moment to make sure that mechanics stay busy, dirty and paid 60+ dollars an hour. how do u spell ingnorance?? with ur face in front of it.

  • first of all, i don't hate electric cars. but i these battery operated aren't wowing me. i'd be much more interested in a hydrogen powered car. if you take a look at the honda clarity, you'll see if that the hydrogen refueling infrastructure in place, it makes expensive and heavy battery packs look futile. why don't you take a few minutes to look at how those batteries are made. the make metric tons of polution in the manufacturing process. next time, save the name calling for yourself.

  • 2:35 look at his face of denial, he's pretty impress huh. I don't think so!

  • all of america needs to hear the last 20 seconds of this video

  • this is a cool "cruze" car still love my manual TT or T.. RWD, AWD 5 speed or 6 speed cars..

    but still cool :P..

    GAS > Electric FTW

  • That tach. thing is so cool

  • ...I don't like electric cars. Maybe because I can be considered a petrol purist. Not having gears and not listening to the engine sounds is almost frightening.

But, then again it is hard to deny that this isn't the future.

  • I like the internal combustion engine far more than electric or hydrogen too. That is one of the reasons why I support biofuels. There are just somethings that a combustion engine can do that others can't like rapid refueling. I think what we will see (or should see) is a combination. You'll have your choice between electric, hydrogen, biofuel and so on. That'll promote compition, keep prices low and keep us from getting too depedent on one fuel source.

  • For all you who are complaining about the price as compared to a Prius or Insight: The federal gov't will give people who purchase this car a $7000 refund. State gov'ts are also likely to give a refund. The Volt will also get much better economy than a regular hybrid. Right now, the Prius doesn't get much over 50mpg but the Volt is supposed to get around 100mpg (if you even use any gas). The Volt is an EREV (extended range electric vehicle) not a hybrid.

  • The prius averages 54MPG.

Anyways, 100MPG? Really? That is impressive. Did they go with a 3 cylinder deisel after all?

  • It is very hard to assign an MPG rating to the Volt because, for most people, it won't use gas. It has a 40 mile range on battery and the average commute is less than that. I had not hear about an I3 diesel. What I had heard about was a 1.4L 4 cylinder flex-fuel gasoline generator. The prototype uses a 1L 3 cyl engine. Also, unlike most hybrids and electrics that use nickel batteries, the Volt will use more efficient and environmentally friendly lithium ion batteries.

  • It's pointless to talk about MPG here, because you will pay for electricity as well. That $7000 refund cover basically a giant profit GM wants to make with this car.

  • Electricity is far cheaper than an equvilant amount of gasoline (the price is also more stable). Also, electric motors are more efficient than comprable combustion engines because they do not idle (among other things). I don't know for sure about GM's margin on the Volt, but any report I have heard has stated that GM won't make much profit on this car (part of the bailout requirments). The refund is more environmetal incentives than anything else.

  • Good comments, everyone. You can expect more on the Volt in the coming months. Thanks!

  • it look like a cop car lol

  • Why were the window so damn fogged up? Was there no air conditioning? I would also like to comment on the price. When the Volt is introduced, it will have an MSRP of over $40,000. How can Chevy compete with the Prius and Insight which are both priced in the low $20K. This is such a joke. GM is just trying to say they are working hard to bring themselves out of the hole they are currently in, but I don't think it will be enough.

  • jasonB if your right and this VOLT has sticker price ANYWHERE NEAR 30-40g's..the GM can FORGET about competing with Hondas Insight or the Toyota Prius..tis tas tisk for setting the price so high

  • It isn't really meant to compete with a Prius. This is a mid-size sedan. Prius is compact. Plus the Volt uses no gas.

BTW, this is just a test mule car. So yeah, probably no A/C in it. lol

  • the price for the car might be a little high for you commoners, but the amount of money you will be saving with this car will outweigh the difference in prices.

  • you'll still be using gas, though.
