@kevinchris its a fal. it just cant be named a FAL. FN still holds the rights to the FAL name. DSA makes FAL rifles using the origional blueprints and design and simply calls it the sa58 in an homage to the austrian FAL military designation the stg58.
Sorry, I accidentally deleted my comment. I only stated that I followed what some industry pros said (im not a pro), that they wouldnt put a .308 down a barrel that is shorter than 20". So I bought a DSA SA58 with a medium profile 21" barrel and I absolutely love it. I also just took my R700 SPS Tactical w/20" bull barrel hunting. Its extremely accurate & would take care of anything within 400-500yds.
@wiley086 I'm sure that a longer barrel would give one much better ballistics, but I would assume the loss is minimal under 250 yards. I plan on doing mostly iron sight shooting so anything beyond that is very very difficult anyways. Even with a scope I want noting more than the 3 or 4 power just enlarge the target that is at the 200-300 yard range. If you are looking to reach out to touch something, than no less than 21in can be recommended by me for most ammo/calibers.
@wiley086 I would actually prefer a longer barrel, I bought a 16" carbine SA58 by mistake, but I've also read (and seen super slo-mo demonstrations of) that longer barrels have the problem of harmonics or vibration that interfere with the flight of the bullet. I'm sure many will call BS, but just another factor to consider. Heck, if the crown of the barrel can affect accuracy...
@wiley086 I ordered mine 4 months ago with a 21'' barrel. They told me one more month for the wood furniture but I should have it before the end of the year. After reading more online I'm glad I went with the 21'' barrel. :-)
@npconman Going for the retro look eh? Should look beautiful:-) I ended up buying DSA's full length aluminum fore-end rail. It was surprising, but it barely added ANY weight compared with the stock plastic fore-end. And its a much more stable platform for the Harris Bi-pod and other goodies once the war chest builds back up:-) It was well worth the $240ish dollars.
Thanks, I'm sure rested with iron sights it could have done even better. I mounted a scope on her a 3x and unfortunately is was only a NC Star, not high quality, so I think the recoil knocked the scope off with every shot. Very frustrating lol. ended up ripping it off after wasting tons of ammo trying to get her centered.
Yeah I had an Nc Star and after a while the mount loosened and came off the scope. Had to put the screws back in and gorilla glue it, seems to hold zero now. I think they're alright for plinking but not much else.
@PanzerAngriff $1500 but I purchased it a month or two after Obama's election so everything was inflated on fears he would band assault weapons again. You can get a nice one for 1200-1400 now.
Searching for fal videos I found yours. I used to live in great falls. Didn't go shooting while I lived there but do now alot. Your name sounds familiar. Did you go to cmr?

How is that different from a FAL? Is it a different company or something?

3 MOA with irons is pretty damn good. I wonder what that rifle is capable of with a scope and proper bench rest.

What are your thoughts on the DSA rifles?

I love this gun. I have never shot any others, but the recoil is minimal and very comfortable to hold in the firing position.

@justinfluegel How much did it cost?

I was only in Great Falls visiting a friend of mine. The range is great, and if you are ever in the area, definitely check it out.
