  • the thumbnail pretty much summarizes intel i5 proccessors

  • I am using the i5 760, H55M-UD2H and Corsair XMS3 4GB DDR3 2000 MHz CAS 9-10-9-27 with the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev.2... I am not sure what to set any of the settings to as I ain't familiar that much with overclocking, although because I have this CPU cooling system I've been told to give it a go. But I have no idea what to set the BIOS settings to without blowing my computer up or frying anything in my PC.

But I don't want to overclock to extremes, just a nice boost that I'd notice...

  • Which cooler should I use?

  • Btw, for RAM to work at 2000MHz do I have to modify their voltage too? They have a radiator and they're currently running at 1333MHz but their original is 1600. Thanks in advance!

  • @andyyube 750's really dont like 2000mhz all that much tbh. And considering you blatantly dont have a clue about overclocking there really isnt much I can do to help you here as its not that simple to do properly *stress the word properly* - your motherboard isnt great for overclocking no. TBH dude if you are a beginner a sandy bridge 1155 board and cpu ( P67 - Z68 & 2500K) would be a better set up for you to have a play with.

  • @TimeToLiveCustoms Thx for replying, I feel so retard, I'm a pc technician and i know mostly everythin bout pcs but i never ocd or changed anything from stock beside oc-ing my phone. Thx for replying, i appreciate that.

  • @andyyube for me the bios is just a part of correctly setting up a PC dude. the fact you dont know how to manually set your ram to 1600 and you call yourself a technician is a bit worrying tbh dude as thats VERY basic and isnt even overclocking, its just a part of setting up the machine. If I was you Id go and have a sniff round your bios and read some good guides.

  • Comment removed

  • @andyyube why would you want to over clock your ram? any DDR3 is wayyyy over kill for any game... over clocking ram is pointless.

  • Hello. I recently upgraded my PC and I want to know for the future, when I'll be needing, with a decent cooler around 250 euros, if 4GHz could be kept for daily gaming. Also, I never got the idea with voltages. When do I have to inscrease/decrease? What is the maximum for this CPU(I own it)? I'd love to know how to make this CPU pull out all it can. There's still one problem. I heard people saying my Mobo is bad for OC. Is that right? --> Gigabyte H55M-S2

  • Jizz stain on the monitor? Naughty, naughty Tom

  • How to overclock i5-760 on Foxconn H55MXV? In Bios i can't change anything on CPU. Any ideas or is it impossible in my side?

  • Is 60-61 degrees at 4GHz a cool temperature? What would be a temperature that is dangerously hot?

  • @HeLeX63 people always say anything above 70 going into 80 is hot, i remember my core 2 duo got to 70 and kept shutting itself off to protect it. but i know that one of the i7 (engineer spec) could go to 100 then shut down, so 60 is fine

  • @HeLeX63 60-70 deegrees at 4GHz under load is a good temperature, but you should also watch the voltages :)

  • @windowsmaster1 Intel is always better.

  • is an amd II x6 1035t/1055t better.?

  • @LaviiStyla nah the i5 760 outperforms teh 1055t IN GAMING and other benchmarks not media though....i think

  • @timetolivecustoms

Which is better for ocing - Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD3 @ £50 or

    Gigabyte GA-P55-USB3 @ £60

Price doesn't really concern me, I just want a good overclocking board

  • @TheNathlm the difference is minimal but the 'A' is the newer version.

  • @TimeToLiveCustoms

So the cheaper GA-P55A-UD3 is the better overclocker?

    And in turn better option?

  • man can you tell me if this is good for gaming.

  • @vafanskajaheta sounds like you did get a thirsty cpu indeed matey. Keep tweeking though you may get it down.

  • I run this really big program on my computer called 3ds max, I don't know if you've heard of it but it's pretty big. Do you think that this processor could handle this software? The software is for making 3d models and rendering them

  • @CoDisafishy Go for the newer intel processors. i5 2500k is the processor that is set to replace the 760. Very close in price

  • @Garofild not with that cooler and those temps no matey.

  • is this cpu better than the amd phenom ii 965?

  • @60829 hope this helps

    anandtech(.)com/bench/Product/102?vs=191

  • @Garofild dude, this helps so much

  • Would these work pretty good together

    i5 760 2.8ghz ( might oc a little )

    8gb ddr3 1333mhz

    Ati 5770 1gb

  • @ShaunJ4Y1873 I don't know what do you need 8 GB of ram for? 4 is more than enough

  • @Ckhris28 NO !

Dont say what you dont know!

  • Can I pair up an i5 760 with a g31tm-p31? Coz in my country we have lots of I core series being sold here, but the Core 2 series are all sold out...

  • @jeromethy no mate CPU socket is different.

  • @TimeToLiveCustoms how about any i3 series?

  • @jeromethy still a different socket dude. The i3's use the same socket as the 760.

i3s and the i5 760 are 1156 socket. TBH dude I would say take a look at some cpu mobo and ram bundles you can get some great deals.

  • @TimeToLiveCustoms 1 last thing, what motherboard would u suggest? Im gonna buy an i3 or i5 soon, so i need to know what motherboards will support it. Sorry, but i am kinda of a computer hardware illiterate.

  • @jeromethy all 1156 motherboards support it.

  • I am thinking of getting a i5-760, Corsair CMPSU-650TX 650-Watt TX Series and a Thermaltake Element V Black Edition Steel Full Tower VL200K1W2Z for HD video editing and audio production and want to overclock to 4.0 gHz, what cooling should I use?

  • @asuperpower Thermaltake cooling is the best

  • I Got my i5 760 on STOCK COOLING to 3.20ghz (disable turbo boost) been like that for 4 days (at 50 degrees c)

  • deep slowo :L

  • Is there a good P55 mobo that can get a good OC from this chip that isn't expensive? Aiming for 3.8-4.0Ghz OC.

  • @perdomot asus p7p55d the -e version have USB3 Sata 6

  • @perdomot Intel DP55SB works for me

  • 02:47 :L

  • if i combine an intel i5 760 with an asus p7h55 micro will the cpu support 1600 RAM as the motherboard does or will i have to oc it?

  • @kalosbas you have to manually set it up as you do with anything above 1333

  • @TimeToLiveCustoms so what steps will i take? kind of a newbie here..

  • @kalosbas do not pass go do not collect £200 go straight to the OC3D Forums once you have the hardware :)

  • Should i get this or wait for the sandy bridges to come out?

  • @TheCityGamer Sandy bridge is about 10% faster

  • I am looking to buy the 760 or 2500K, which do you think is best for gaming?

  • @scotche123 if its a whole new rig you are buying get the 2500k

  • I'm picking between an i5 650 or an i5 760. The 760 is only about $20 more. Any advice on which I should pick between the two?

  • @TheStarfox567 the 650 is dual core. So get the 760 as it is a quad

  • @TimeToLiveCustoms

Will the 760 give me a noticeable performance difference in games despite the difference in clockspeed between the two? I'm not considering over clocking it because I don't want to spend the extra cash on replacing a stock cooling system.

Then again I may just get the 760 anyway as a form of future proofing.

  • @TheStarfox567 I would suggest everyone buys an uprated cooler of some sort dude. And yes I would say the quad would be beter for you long term.

  • @TimeToLiveCustoms

I agree with you on the cooling but it's a money issue more than anything else at the moment. Everyone wants top of the line stuff, but that doesn't mean you have the money for it. Thanks for the advice, I'll go with the 760 :)

  • @TimeToLiveCustoms Erm...oophs I overclock with stock fans and cooling. But I don't get over 60C on CPU or GPU?

  • @TheStarfox567

Go for i5 760. i5 760 is a quad core and i5 650 is only dual core.I also had same question and at last i got 760.i5 760 is best i5 processor. You would require a seperate graphics card for 760.

  • @TheStarfox567

For 20$ is better to use 760,you won't lose much money but you will be surely satisfied with it.

  • @limadavid18

The funny thing is that for another $9 above that $20, I've gotten a Core i5 2400 :)

New architecture is definitely worth that money!

  • @TheStarfox567 760 has also an extra overclocking mode for non quad-core programms and also it works awesome! I´ve got one two christmas and it works great and every thing works smooth ;D

  • Do you think that the Corsair H50 will go well? :)

  • @MrJuul34 Im not a fan of the H50 at all tbh.

  • @TimeToLiveCustoms So you would recommend the Noctua NH-D14 instead of the H50? :D

  • @MrJuul34 easily dude. Its cooler and quieter. Just have to go carefull with ram choice.

  • @TimeToLiveCustoms ok thanks. Im going for the Noctua then.. Theres plenty of place to the cooler in my case, so the ram shouldnt be a problem :)

  • I just wonder, is the temperature youre mentioning the main cpu temp or is it the temperatures of the cores? and how far can it go?

  • Comment removed

  • I bought one of these the other day and am waiting for delivery tomorrow, this review was not only reassured me that I made the right choice, but will be invaluable when I overclock it :)

anyway I've subscribed and hope to see more soon!

  • I just bought one... Stock fan should be fine until I can get more money (spent all my money on a complete upgrade). Anyone want to recommend the best cooler for this that I could buy under $40?

  • i cant adjust my multiplier >.< im using a msi gd80 and core i5 760

  • Hey, what CPU cooler did you use I heard that it was noctua but I don't know the rest of it like model name or whatever its called. And only if you remember what RPM was the CPU fan speed of when it was clocked 4 GHz and was 60 degree C. :)

  • @wowjocke1 Noctua NH-D14, it can be an arse with ram so make sure you do your home work. If you can get Mushkin Ridgeback ram then thats fine with the D14

  • @TimeToLiveCustoms Haha okey thanks. :)

  • Also, will the i5 760, 4GB DDR3 and a GTS250 run well on a Tagan 480W PSU?

  • Is the i5 760 far better bang per buck when compared to the i3 540? I need a cheap CPU for steam games and oblivion. Is it worth the i5 or am I wasting money?

  • @Typhoon10UK have a look at my "build a gaming pc for £600" video on my channel dude as thats an i3 540

  • 3.6 GHZ IS WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAy fast enough on this one! 3.6 ghz is enough for GTX 480 in SLI or GTX 580

  • any review on Asus GTX460 1 GB DDR5?

  • jep comes with 5 ! year warranty in a custom case..so i hope so :)

  • ordered the i5 760 OC@3,6Ghz today. hope i am not retarded lol

  • @schwalbstar do you have a good cooler

  • I was wondering what you did for these following things in the bios (enable or disable). Intel Speed Step, Intel Turbo Boost, C-State, C1E Support. Don't know what they do, but I've heard a bunch of people talking about disabling them. What do you recommend/what did you do in the video?

  • New to overclocking. Is 4ghz or 4.4ghz ok for everyday use with i5 760/750? (gaming).

  • @phreake2 4ghz would be a nice clock I very much doubt you will get 4.4.

200bclk is a very nice clock if you can get there.

  • I dident understand much in that video but im looking for a somewhat cheap processor and i want the i5 760 or the newest cheapest processor on the i7 family dont know what to buy :(

  • @dixen2009 i7 950 is a cracker but its not worth skimping on. If budget is tight get the i5 760

  • @TimeToLiveCustoms Awesome to get a response this quick and from a guy who has a million watchers. Anyways i have no idea how good or bad the intel processor but what do you think about the i3:s i'm a gamer and i would like top graphics or as high a can get with a low budget :D

  • @dixen2009 Hold that thought as I have a video coming in the next few weeks for you ;)

  • @TimeToLiveCustoms Now i saw your latest video where you rewied the AMD 1100T hexcore and i dont know what to buy between the i5 760 and of the 6 core amd family. I dont really understand what you are talking about the bus core and i dont even know why you are overclocking. I just want to be able to play at the highest settings on for example crysis, dawn of war 2, total war and so on. If you hade time ti explain short to me what you mean with all this would be very cool :D

  • @TimeToLiveCustoms Because the 1090T black edition only cost 200kronors more then the i5 760. 200kronors is aproximently 20Euros dont know how many punds though.

  • @TimeToLiveCustoms can this run games such as just cause 2 and blackops smoothly at max settings with 6870?

  • @TheRES74 yes, At 4ghz the I5 760 is more than enough for my GTX 460's SLI. Even at stock 2.8ghz with turboboost should be enough. Black ops is easy to run anyway.

  • @Spliffstar26 all COD games aren't that much focused on graphics. So not much to worry about maxing it out. Worry on better games w/ unbound graphics (crysis to be exact)

  • @jeromethy My Rig Killz Crysis 2, Crysis 1 & Warhead were tougher to run but it still ran at 60fps MAX Settings

  • Happy I ordered it in the desktop I'm getting :) sorry for split comment no laptop/desktop ATM so iPod is my access to yt :)

  • Yes yes mate great vid. Makes me

  • i just tried to overclock my i5 760 and it did not go very well :( It became unstable. Guess ill just have to be happy with it @ 3.3

  • @davo5689

Make sure you never try to OC with stock cooling. The intel cooler is pretty crap. Yea, you could OC a little bit with it, but if you want 4.0ghz, get a different cooler.

The Hyper 212 is a nice little heatsink and fan that is cheap and very effective.

  • I have this chip also an ASUS Sabertooth 55i mobo. I can get the 4ghz with ease. My problem,,how do i enable speedstep, turbo mode if I choose to,with this overclock or any overclock? Thank you very much for your time,

    David

  • @plexitone in the bios but it may make your overclock unstable. You deffo dont need turbo mode on.

  • @TimeToLiveCustoms Im doing something wrong then, because when in bios i try to enable speedstep after any overclock, but will not enable. I do again thank for your time,Tom.

    David

  • thanks for the review, just wondering how you made your computer case/rack in the background of this video? cheers in advance.

  • 2:47 XD

  • Im gona buy it but im worried about overclocking never done it, 3.2 ghz would be enough for me, any way you could help?

  • Excellent review mate, mine arrives on tuesday, cant wait :)

  • So how do I increase the voltages - at once ore by small incrementals? Cuz I dont want to fry my cpu

  • I have this chip..buyed it before seeing this video..now im happy bout the chip ^^

  • Awesome review mate! I just wonder though how much will the 4gz oc will increase the consumption, because as a student who lives alone I cant help worrying about the electricity bill. Also, will my Hiper TypeR 580W psu handle the load , along with a radeon 6870?

  • @Kthulhu666 it will make minimal difference to your wallet in that respect dude. Im really not a fan of Hyper PSU's so tbh Id deffo tell you to replace that.

  • @TimeToLiveCustoms So what did you have your IMC at if i may ask?

    Thnx

  • @teckim At 4ghz that is

  • @Kthulhu666 Maybe, maybe not. Anyways, if you want to lower power consumption then get a 80+ Certified gold psu, like this one. CORSAIR Professional Series AX750 750W 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply. From newegg.

  • m and stock cooler? Or Isit a must for cooling fans?

  • @kiirshio overclocking creates heat dude so its always best to get an aftermarket cooler. Once you get the rig you will just have to work out yourself how you want to ballence the BCLK and multiplier with the memory dividers to get the clock settings you want. Its easier once you have the parts and you will be able to see :)

  • Isit possible to overclock till 3.5ghz for daily usage with 1333mhz 4gb ra

  • 5:10

    Naughty naughty

    You cracked stalker :0

  • Wait i misderstood something...the original clock per core is 2.8GHz yes? And you overclocked each core TOO 4GHZ!!!!

  • just bought the i5 760 before I saw this vid, sooo happy I did after seeing this:) got my subscription.

  • i love this guy (no homo), he speaks clearly and slowly so i can understand him. unlike all the other tech reviewers

  • @DontQuestionTheiBex cheers dude :)

  • Nice, I got an "old" i5-750 and I was amazed how easy it was to get it on 4ghz. Runs a little hotter than this one like 70C on load, and that with a really cheap cooler, the Coolermaster hyper 212+ amazing performance for the money.

  • @Masamiva awwww, you dont have to watch the reviews if you dont want too :)

  • Thank you for the great review.

I have a dilemma, that a lot of people have.

I'm building a new rig, and I'm not sure which CPU should I get. Either the i5 760 or the i7 930?

I mostly game on my PC, and I've learned that the HT and triple channel do not make a huge difference in gaming. Also a P55 is cheaper than the X58.

The graphic card is a 460 GTX, and I'll go SLI in the future.

Do the extra $/£ worth it? I'm a bit on a budget, but I want to be future safe (as much as possible).

    Thank

  • @MSMSValve If you want to sli in the future and game a fair bit I would deffo go with the 930 or now the prices have come down a 950 dude

  • @TimeToLiveCustoms Thanks. The thing is that I'm planing to buy a 24" LED monitor (Samsung). If I'll go with the 930, I'll need to "sacrifice" a bit and go with a 23" monitor. I know, small difference, but still...

I'm buying a GIGABYTE P55A-UD4P motherboard, which should allow me to go SLI in the future.

    Again, budget problems...

    Thank you for your advice.

  • @MSMSValve then the p55 board would be the perfect choiche if your on a budget.

ofcourse a x58 board has higher performance for Sli

but i wouldnt worry about it that .

it really also depends on the monster card your planning on getting later.:)

  • @ImmortalUniverse Thanks.

    I agree with you.

Now there is a new "problem". AMD's 6870 just came out, and they look to be superior to the 460 1gb in most cases. But the 460 price went down... more dilemmas ;)

I guess I'll wait a bit longer and see how things come along with the GPUs prices. I hope to be able to purchase the X58, 930, with 6GB of ram (they aren't that expensive). I may need to go with a smaller monitor though (23" instead of a 24").

Getting a new rig has become complicated ;)

  • @MSMSValve ok this is what im thinking but others might disagree.. the Amd 6800 series = the HD 5700 series the Amd 6900 series = the HD 5800 series also the GTX 460 get less hot then the GTX 470 & GTX 480 goz it came out later with a new technology . i believe you should choose the GTX 460 ,it is faster then a HD 5850 also on dx 11 . and the GTX 460 has options for SLI nvidea SLI is better then radeon's crossfire X also the nvidea Physx looks better on a nvidea card
  • @MSMSValve

and to be honest ,i would rather buy kingston hyperX 4GB ddr3 2000/2100/2200 mhz

then 6GB of kingston or OZC ddr3 1600 mhz

you dont need 6GB yet .

and dual channel works perfect too on a tripple channel mobo.

so i would rather buy 4GB and get the maximum speeds and lowest latency.

you get a stable overclock with better Rams.

thats why i said kingston hyperX

they are cheap and very very good with latency and speed.

  • @MSMSValve the Gigabyte P55A-UD4P is indeed a nice motherboard. i just checked it out . it is very similar to the Asus P7P55D-E PRO . they are around the same price over here. you might wanna check out the Asus P7P55D-E PRO too. goz it has AUTO overclock features in the bios . a mem OK button which auto sets the mem settings to post normal. it also has crossfire/SLI. USB 3.0 and SATA 6GB/s. and i like asus because of the quiet fan options (Q-fan control). mem hyperX suppport.
  • @ImmortalUniverse Thanks a lot for your advice. I'm waiting to see what the prices of the new 6870 cards will be in my country, and then I'll decide.

    Thanks again.

  • @MSMSValve i agree with TimeToLiveCustoms, prices have come down . . for 1 videocard a p55 board is perfect. for 2 videocards on SLI ,i would buy a x58 board im not sure on buying a p55 board either for myself. but if your on a budget ,then its a tuff choiche at the moment. start with 4GB of ram on the mobo. 6gb or more is not needed and a money waste for now. and make sure you install a 64-bit windows. otherwise you can only use 3 gb of RAM on 32-bit.
  • Is it safe to have imc voltage go over 1.21 volts?

  • Hi, With the 4GHz clock u had there. That is exactly the same settings as the 750 at 4GHz. This is realy just a question as to whether or not i should just save some money and get the 750. Also i have another question, i have the HD4890 and was wondering, how much better is the 5870?

  • Thanks for the review mate, it was very informative. Cheers

  • OMG! tom uses razor 1911 for his games! woot!

  • @addzkebabs and reloaded lol

  • Just bagged one for $175us. out the door. Looking forward to this processor. Thank you again for another great review.

PS. This should nail 3.6 easy.

  • ive got an i5 760,4 g ram,ga-p55a-ud5 mobo&hd5770& i was wandering if you could give me the tips to get to about 3.5ghz just coz ime on my p.c a lot and dont wanna fuck it up!

  • can you use the Kingston hryperX blu with the d14 or u12-sp2

  • not the best review in the world i give it 2/5

  • good vid

  • this guys make the worse reviews ...

  • @zapsak <3 you too xxxxxx

  • @TimeToLiveCustoms man u know what you are doing but ... u sound to depressed.... and sorry for beeing rude (sry for the spelling ... portuguese)

  • @zapsak

Who cares about your opinion? if you dont like it, dont watch it.

  • @weedos2311 you are right i was beeing a jerk

  • with the new corsair H70

  • i learnd overclocking within 2 weeks its easy just look at movies, forums etc.

running @ 4.2Ghz with my i5-760 tested with prime95 and its not getting warmer than 58 degrees..!

  • how does it stack up to the 860 in physical simulations like in Ansys and Solidworks? Can you check this for me Tim?

  • These definitely OC better than i5 750. I'm finding them ~10C cooler clock for clock and the extra multiplier helps.

  • I have a question and it doesnt involve about i5 and this is my question : Can I use a Noctua NH-D14 with the corsair Dominators?

  • @YoFreakable only if you have the ones where you can remove the top heatsinks. If yours are the old all back heatsink style then no.

  • Can you tell me please, will i5 760 work without bios update?

  • Great video!

  • is there any overclocking sofware about to overclock without having to piss about in the bios! from past attempts i have failed using the bios method! thankfully it cuts out rather than burnin the mother board and cpu. which has happened alot!!! SADLY!

    MICH27G

  • @mich27g If it's AMD use Overdrive, has most of the OC tools from the desktop, and for Intel i dunno if there is one:)

  • @mich27g quick answer is no mate. Bios is the only way and if you actually think about what you are doing and research then its not that bad. You just have to put the time in its not a quick thing when you first start.

  • @mich27g or you can buy 1 of those msi motherboard with the OC genie on board XD

  • your videos rock
