I live in Newport Beach - sixty miles south of LA. I'm an old fart, a dual Aussie/Yank citizen, married to a beautiful and smart Black American woman (25 years and still going strong) and have lived and worked in several different countries since graduating from Monash.
Oz and the States aren't communist...they're corporatist - run by their respective elites. True capitalists, like my many friends in Oz and here, are now screwed, just the same as the workers.
Awesome memories. Not much has changed format-wise since I used to frequent it in the early 1990s - mainly just TAB where extra lounge area (pool table and juke box), and no beer gdn. In 1992, when the Roys made the preseason Granny, I met a mate (who lived nearby on Stillman St past the Grand) at 10:30am, and we played pool at a table where the TAB is now, until 6:30pm before going to the match. Needless to say, I remember very little of the footy :D ... So you run the Rising Sun? Nice!
@DannyEmbling I don't work here anymore but my family still has the lease. Unfortunately the owner is going to build apartments, so most of the hotel will disappear in a couple of years, except for maybe a small bar on the corner. We still get the pre-footy and racing crowds, having the train station across the road helps a lot.
