As someone who has deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan multiple times, I know I deal with my own PTSD issues. I recognize them and deal with them. A TRAINED Psychiatrist should recognize his own issues. In the end, we are finding that his issue was pure hate.

I agree that the jag officer was a little bit of a, in your words "douche", but he was well within his rights to speculate on the intentions of the gun man. Dr. Phil and Mrs. Johnson were very quick to speculate that the man was disinfranchised with our military and scared of another trip over seas (he had never been and was preparing for his 1st trip), but any suggestion that it might have been an ideologically motivated attack was violently and unnessisarlly cut down.

Well, I'm in the military and I've seen my fair share of them as well. Hell, I went to School of Infantry with one and he wanted nothing more than to be a Marine and serve his country.
I'm not turning a blind eye to "the enemy". The enemy is anyone wanting to destroy our nation or it's people for whatever reason.
I think it is horribly ignorant to assume that all Muslims are terrorist or have the tendency to lean that way.

In my opinion if you are going to start saying that all Muslims are 'sleeper cells', i.e. at heart they are terrorists waiting to strike...
...then I think you have to say that all Christians are right wing extremists that want to kill President Obama and are thus domestic terrorists, and screen them and round them up.
Then you can say that all liberals want to bomb meat producing plants and commit eco-terrorism, and hate the troops.
You can do this with just about any group.

I NEVER said that every muslim is a terrorist. Where did you get the idea that i did? However, i did say that THIS particular muslim is a terrorist. It has now been uncovered that he was trying to make contact with Al Qaeda. Unfortunately, many apologists will probably say he did that cause he had feelings and was ill. Add up the facts and its easy to see that this act was much more than PTSD... it was politically and idealogically motivated. Regardless of why, he should be shot.. period

It is an avenue that should be investigated as the odds show that there is a good possibility that it is an Islamic extremist motivation. People are overly worried about being "politically correct". My post said nothing about "indicting all Muslim Americans". What I pointed out was the reaction of the media to discredit any link to Islamic radicalism. Which is a logical deduction given Hasan's background and recent arrests of home grown terrorists.

Shoshana's got the most credibility in this group. She went into the heart of darkness that is Iraq, had her humvee blown up, got shot, wound up a POW, and came back with PTSD. Fox News & their ignorant, racist, tea-bagin', afraid-of-affordable-healthcare audience were 1st to reduce this as Islamic terrorism... Terrorism is a description of an act; not an embodied condition. And it certainly doesn't explain something so very complex as this.

If you listen to the argument in the video, you will hear that the Jag is open to all possibilities INCLUDING terrorism. While Dr. Phil and Shoshonna scoff at that possibility. If he just snapped, than great... i still think he should be shot. However, the possiblity that it is an idealogical motivated attack should be explored. The fact that he harbored these pre-terrorist feelings should have been a red flag and the military should look for those warning signs.

As someone who has deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan multiple times, I know I deal with my own PTSD issues. I recognize them and deal with them. A TRAINED Psychiatrist should recognize his own issues. In the end, we are finding that his issue was pure hate.

Seems like this TRAINED Psychiatrist recognized his own issues but couldn't deal with them. Fools who drink the kool-aid at Fox News reduce this tragedy to a simple & singular issue of "pure hate". Seems like too many citizens- veterans & civilians are in denial of the real consequences & human costs of our wars.

To speak to the issue at hand I agree that his officer status was irrelevant to his decision but I don't see any Baptist or Bhuddist or Wiccan Soldiers commiting acts similar to this. This seems to be limited to Islamic soldiers.

There is no such thing as global Christian jihad against the US. Which isn't to day there aren't wack Christians, but there is no way it's in the same category. Major Hasan was a loser who got sucked in by radical, America-hating islamism, just like others have been before him. If the Army had taken his attraction to his extremist islamism seriously, they would have drummed him out and saved those people's lives, though he probably would have killed others.

It's absurd to pretend that when someone of Arab/Muslim background shoots up a base, that person's background is not a fit subject for further exploration. Militant Islamic fundamentalism is an ideology that ensnares people and drives them to do bad things. And the people it ensnares are by definition Muslims. It's only a small minority of Muslims who have associated themselves in this country with terror acts, but it does happen. That the army ignored warning signs with this guy is bad.

Regardless of what he meant to imply, the (former) JAG officer should have chosen his words a bit more wisely. "Islamist last name" is, to say the least, not the prudent thing to say. Prevattm is correct in that; ethnicity should have zero association with Hassans possible motivations. Hassans ideology, on the other hand, is a completely different story.
