  • My string broke :(

  • thank you so much! the best video on how to change strings on el guitar!

  • WOW U HAVE A STRAT, I have a squire =(

  • @rbcrazyriderrb me too but i like it...I hated it before but I understood that the squire is a good guitar and I started to love it :)

  • @Gebrechlichkeit1 i likec mine but then my old guitar teacher let me play his strat and i almost pooped my pants. From then on i have hated my squire. now im fixing it up. i have put a emg humbucker on it.

  • @rbcrazyriderrb Actually I don't care about equipment...for me this is not so important

  • @Gebrechlichkeit1 the better equipment the better i play so it is important. Have you ever seen a famous guitar player that prefers a swuire over a strat?

  • @rbcrazyriderrb That is only true to a small degree, the guitarist makes the equipment sound good, a good guitarist can work with almost any instrument, it really all comes down to playing.

  • @rbcrazyriderrb Yeah but notice its made in Mexico not in the USA. Its a cheap Strat my friend.. Just cause it it has Stratocaster on it doesn't mean its great guitar. Its probably an ok guitar but do your homework before buying one and letting someone take advantage of you by your lack of knowledge.

  • thanks^^

  • Thanks for the help

  • Great job. Tried this method on a PRS SE and haven't had a tuning problem since. Thanks.

  • Thanks, brilliant method!! I had real trouble changing my strings before, but this works just awesome!!

  • bendand look like what the hell

  • Thanks fuck face now i gotta go buy a whole new set of strings!

  • this is pretty solid, I feel like it's minimized my tuning issues by using this method

  • Thanks so so much for this video, it really does help maintain tuning stability and save money....big respect!!!

  • Idiot!!

  • great, fast and simple

  • thanks bro!! XD

  • this is such a bad way to change a string there probably going to break like this

  • This helped me a lot thank you

  • ..I'm just gonna go ask my dad...

  • DUDE SLOW DOWN!!!!!!!!! MY GOD!

  • hey man thanks alot :D I was totally frustrated cause I'm kinda new to changing strings and the guy at the store showed me it WAY too fast and I thought I could remember xP But you seriously saved my guitar ;D

  • gracias tio! no havia manera de encontrar un video que lo enseñara tan bien. (con los otros me puse de mala leche porque no se entendia nada)

  • thanks for the vid! it really helped me.

  • "...And still keep this finger down at the nut"

    Sounds like a porno.

    Nice.

  • @jimih64 Grow up.

  • @Sparks217 Grow down.

    Have fun.

Quit pretending like YouTube is a serious, mature environment.

Quit forgetting that humans are animals, and as such, we like to FUCK.

    Lastly, quit being a bitch.

  • @Sparks217 Hahahahaha keep spamming, faggot.

  • Yes proper string change. Note: you should probably tighten the tuning post before they fall off.

  • Just switched my strings using this method, works wonderfully. :) Thanks

  • Thanks for uploading this video, i've just changed my guitar.

  • easy 4 yew to say I have a 013 and it keeps popping

  • This is the correct way. A lot of you are just doing it wrong. if you go to any reputable guitar tech and not one from guitar center they will do this ease.

  • I noticed that his tuning pegs were loose too, should have tightened them first I think, always check mine when changing strings and give the fretboard a clean and a tiny bit of lube on the nut to allow the strings to slide in it. Tunes up alot better

  • thanks

  • Used this method and broke my brand new E-string... Going back to my "own" way ->

  • thumbs up if this guy looks like Rob Schneider

  • omg THIS IS NOT THE WAY THE STRING GOES OFF LIKE THIS OMG I AM NOT EVEN A SPECIALIST AND KNOW THAT DUDE ARE YOU AN IDIOT?

  • I had my doubts because I'm used to wrapping around the nut at least twice, but i have to say this worked perfectly.

  • perfect. this fits perfectly

  • this helped so much, i used to do it another way but it kept going out of tune, this keeps it in tune perfectly! thanks alot! 5 stars!

  • after i do this, the last step is to cut the rest of my string?

    O_o

  • @Artmabuloso yeah

  • @Artmabuloso yep

  • thumbs up this if ur cool

  • Why so many people who is learning try to give mastersclass to others in youtube?

first... hide thats crate amp!! you can't be serious with it in scene.

Yours tuning machines are loose... tighten it.

Never bend the strings, never tie a knot.

Just have to get 3 turns around the tuning machine for low E string, 4 turns for A and D strings, 5 times in G and B, and 6 spins around the tunning machine for High E string.... then cut off all the wire remaining. (rounds advance to the headstock wood)

  • @petaflot you tie knots for classical strings...

  • thanks, this really helped

  • How do you do this with tele tuners ?

  • Hey body,

Thanks a million for this video. My strings really stay in tune now, this trick makes a big difference. I've been playing guitar for more than 30 years and never really paid attention to this part.

I'm happy I finally got into it!

    Thanks again and best regards

  • I just changed strings on the guitar for my first time using this video, it worked. No broken strings.

  • this videos perfect stop complaining

  • what do i do with the loose end?????

  • SHIT! I did exactly what he said and the string broke right away

  • why does an electrical guitar need to have metal strings?

  • @301807137 The pick- ups are like magnets, so when you pluck a metal string it transmits the sound to the amp. That's why most other strings won't work.

  • @301807137 because of the magnetic pick ups

  • @301807137 Most guitars use a magnetic coil pickup. This produces an electromagnetic field that the strings "cut" through and induce an AC voltage source in the circuitry of the guitar with the same properties as the sound of the note. There are also piezo pickups, which pick up actual vibrations. You'll see a lot of acoustic-electric guitars that are nylon strung using this. I'd imagine this is also how the drums work in Rock Band.

  • hey This is exactly the way to do it u guys are retards

  • Comment removed

  • People who broke their strings are idiots.

  • @mosnaidei it depends on what situation the strings are...if they are rusted...then with one bend it will break, what else do you expect?

  • Just Bend It Fucker!!

  • You guys are the fucking morons. This guy shows exactly how it should be done.

  • @runescapeownyawe That's true, and that knot is really important so your guitar doesn't go out of tune. I bet some people just went and overstretched their strings and messed up. You can't possibly break any of them if you do it right.

  • expertvillage hah idiotvillage more like it !

  • i would like to thank this man for the great help he provided...i would also like to ask from all those asswholes to just SHUT THE FUCK UP because this man is tryin to help people with their guitars and they just keep saying bullshits..all this worked very nice for me and if you jerks dont like this video just dont watch it and stop commentin' !!!!!

  • genius. i play a percussive style and this method holds tune better than any other i've tried on my telecaster

  • Does he deserve a Fender?

  • Expert Village are far from expert

  • how the hell are we supposed to see what you're doing with the text in the way??

  • ♫♫♫

  • this would be a good video without that stupid idea that you had of blocking the image with dialogue..whos the dummy who did that

  • I tightened my G string REAL Tight!

  • @Takiado oh was that funny?

  • thanks to this fucker i broke my string thanks a lot man now i have to go to the fucking store to buy another string thanks you coasted me money for your ignorance

  • Comment removed

  • @sonofchrist4562 Yea he's a fucker i just broke my fucking string and i need it for tomorow and shops are closed

  • @sonofchrist4562 It's not this guy's fault that you suck dick to put new strings on you fucktard

  • @sonofchrist4562 fail.

  • @sonofchrist4562 LOL, you are making him responsable of making you broke a string?¿?¿?

Dude this tecnique he is using has nothing to do with giving more tension to the stings.

Maybe you didnt know that you have to stop rolling the string when you get the string's note instead of waiting that the sting can't be rolled anymore...

  • @sonofchrist4562 was your string made out of feather ?

  • @sonofchrist4562 stop using silly string as guitar strings and maybe you won't break them.

  • @sonofchrist4562 "coasted"

  • @sonofchrist4562 i had the exact same thing happen. 9-gauge string snapped and lacerated my arm.

  • @sonofchrist4562 Only thanks for your ignorance. Nobody forced you to do so, also. If you screwed your strings somehow, you are stupid. Doing that the same way like on my guitars and I am totally fine. THis tutorial is ok, nobody needs to worry about. YOu will find the same winding style even in Ibanez manuals.

  • @sonofchrist4562 If you broke your string, i think that was your own fault. I watched this vid and changed a string this way,and it worked on me.

  • @sonofchrist4562 then you bought shitty strings ;)

  • @sonofchrist4562

I'd hate to see you with a Floyd Rose if this was more complex than you could handle

  • @sonofchrist4562 probably because you did it wrong or bought crappy strings

  • @sonofchrist4562 It's probably just you who suck

  • @sonofchrist4562 u suck .. no doubt about it. the first time i change strings i watched this

  • @sonofchrist4562 Yeah! Same here...

  • Comment removed

  • @sonofchrist4562 Oh the irony...

  • expert village sucks

  • retard..

  • this guy is an idiot

  • OK I DO EVERYTHING YOU SAY BUT MY FUCKING E STRING SOUNDS LIKE D!!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT TO DO? ;(

  • @FrozenSparky tune it... tool

  • @FrozenSparky

    ...Tune it up...?

  • @MissingStrings when i tune it it was too loose... my mistake i didnt put the string right , i fixed that

  • @FrozenSparky tune it up

  • nice '95 mexican strat

  • Great, my E string just popped.

  • pull the g string tight so it kinks

  • Expert Village video's are good for nothing. They never show you the real thing and then the guy appears to be drunk or dumb or both.

  • good job putting the fucking subtitles right across what we're supposed to be looking at!!! fucking idiots, also, you shouldnt remove all strings at once, twats

  • How much does new strings for the strat cost?

  • This guy is a noob. You shouldn't remove all of the strings at one time like that, it fucks up the tension on the neck...I've said it before, I'll say it again: EXPERT VILLAGE IS A JOKE

  • @carnage101 no it don`t....thats only on an old acoustic before they started to put in truss rods (into the neck) probably in the late 50`s or something

  • thank you for making me break my brand new string!!!!! fuck you

  • hah.... yeah and when you want to lower the string -1 tone for some track's you bassicly can't do it becouse your string just doesn't got too many "lock ups" on the key ;) and the Point : It's not very effective

  • yeh i just broke my low E string. got way tighter way quicker then i thought it would have... fml lol

  • i love you thankx for that my string costed 25dollars THANKX!!!

  • thank you, good job!!!

  • thanks a lot! i finally found a solution!

  • q soy el unico pelotudo q habla español and speak english?????

  • So, as is usually the case I was changing my strings and because the kink kept going through the post I was in tears and really mad. Today I watched this and first time I tried, I got it. This is an awesome technique if you have problems like me, I'll use this from now on, especially if it reduces slippage. Thanks for uploading.

  • i tried this on a heavy cause(up till .62) very useful technic

  • @w00per Yeah, this is definitely a good technique with heavier gauges. I just downgraded from 10s to elevens which I just got, I was in tears yesterday trying to change them, I kinked so hard so many times with pliers and it always went through the post, earlier I watched this and it works perfectly!

  • seriosly, he makes it harder then what it really is to change strings

  • Does this apply to the 1st string too or just to the 6th?

  • @gifted411 I watched his thing on eHow and it works for all the strings apparently. Should be useful for the bottom three unwound 'cause you can't get a good grip on them with your hand.

  • I know how to change my guitar strings but the way i did it was sloppy and retarded, it worked tho. but this way is much cleaner and easier. i'll try this way next time

  • And guys, whatever you do, never take all your strings off at the same time like this dummy did. it fucks with the tension on the neck and is a just a no no.

  • @goldphishie Oh really? Why's that? Think before you speak, it's fine, they're like this in factories all the time after neck and body assembly, and before quality control who puts the strings on and plays it. You'll just have to do it a bit slower than usual taking them off and have a small pause between putting them on and you'll need to adjust the truss rod afterward. Otherwise you're fine if you don't have a Floyd Rose.

  • i did this and it works :D! but... it makes your strings higher behind the nut...

  • oh dude, dont tell me they discontinued the split shaft pegs? i was gonna get those installed on my next guitar! r u sure?

  • @ynwgie You could get Phase II locking tuners like PRS uses. I want those once I either get a PRS SE or feel like saving for 'um. They're super easy to change strings too.

  • Huh never tried this. Does it actually work?

  • all the strings on my guitar are wrapped around counter clockwise

  • I always wondered why Fender has discontinued those super easy-mounting tuning pegs with the top slots. Bad.

  • does changing a guitar strings cost much?>

  • @MrSimplyoriginal all you really need is a pack of guitar strings, 10-25 dollars, and something to cut your strings with. i use wire clippers i have lying around my house. :)

  • and i usually hear if ya broke a string, u have to change all of them i wonder why. thx for telling anyways :)

  • @MrSimplyoriginal You don't. If you break one then you only /have/ to change one. But if you need to change your strings then you can use that as an excuse to change them all.

  • @alexaANXIETY You're kidding? You must be getting ripped off. At GC a pack of Ernie Balls is only about 6.00 bucks. They also have a deal where if you buy three Ernie Ball packs you can get 'em for 12 bucks. That's a good deal.

  • @Songwriter4God 6 bucks? dude, where do you live????

  • 5 euros for rotosounds or daddario kl

    and wire clippers

  • @MrSimplyoriginal most people will do it for free but complain. a guitarist should know how to change their own strings. a set of strings runs around 20 bucks.

  • @johndawson420 No they don't. Ernie Ball's cost only about 6.00 bucks. What kind you using, Elixirs?

  • @Songwriter4God forgot to mention its buy one get one free where i get em, which may not be the case for others obviously.

and yea elixirs are the shit and so are the hendrix brand strings. both play real well, keep quality longer, and have nice flexability while maintaining good durability and tone.

  • @MrSimplyoriginal Yes, actually the IRS came and took my house.

  • No you usually replace them all and not only just one string. But usually its about 10 bucks you can get yourself a new set of strings and go on months before you need to replace them again.

  • He should have gone around the post when he was bringing the end over the string between the nut and tuning post. He just crossed it over, its not going to make a very tight lock that way.

  • everything you need to know about guitars is on youtube.Best way for tuning stabilty on a strat is locking tuners, have your bridge resting on the body, and making sure there is no binding at the nut. Then light whammys stuff will stay in tune.If you need to play hard whammy stuff you are using the strat wrong to begin with. The Stratocaster was not designed to do dive bombs. That is what ibanez is for.I

  • setting up intonation is easy,go ahead take off all the strings it wont hurt your guitar trust me.Then go to how to set-up intonation here on you tube. Its a easy as making kraft diner. Your neck will only bow if you leave it off for months even then it goes back.If a neck is not full cured when ready to go into production and curves after it will always stay curved.

  • Will that also help stabilize the tuning on a guitar with a free-floating bridge like that Fender in the video? I'm sure dive bombs will make it go out of tune, but what if you just shake the whammy bar for a tremolo effect? Will it stand a better chance of staying in tune?

  • i have a gibson sg standard, if i remove all strings at the same time, would something bad happen to the neck?

  • for some electric guitars the intonation goes to hell when removing all the strings at the same time

  • Possibly.

This guy shouldn't do that to his guitar either :D

  • That would release all the tension at once which could let the neck bow a bit. Best to change 'em one at a time.

  • how do u fix that tho after cuz ive regrettably did that removed all my strings all at once then put my new strings, the strings are raised up from the fretboards not like before ther so close so it was easy to play n do picking now i have to press on it all the way down its annoying =/, any advise to get it that back!? would really help tnx..

  • Your best bet now would be to take it to a shop with a good tech. They can do a great set up for little money. There are videos on here so you can do it yourself, but I don't recommend that to anyone who hasn't done it before and really knows what they are doing.

  • i just did it to my kramer and its fine...but like superbolli said every guitar is different...but if it is pretty heavy weight then it will prolly be fine

  • gibson sg standard is quite heavy isnt it?

  • @Whydoyoureadme i do believe it is

  • thnaks man! thanks to you i tried to do it myself and it works perfectly!! Thanks again man!

  • i have a strat copy will i screw up my guitar neck if i take all the strings off at once?

  • Dude you ruined my life i hate your teaching technique. I tried doing that and my strings snaped. Thanks a lot for ruining my day.

  • Yup. im being quite pissed off as well :[

  • dude you saved my life!:D

  • impressive.

does it work just as well for the 1st E string? or would u have to wrap a 2nd time?

  • I always wrap the strings round the post a couple of times before i put it through the hole, it saves having to leave enough slack and mess about winding forever. It never fails me and stays in tune just as good as any other way ive tried.

  • awesome video dude, I couldnt change strings for shit before this. good technique used

  • Locking tuners are also a good investment. YOu don't need to wind the string around the post or use the lock method, you pull it tight and use a screw to hold it in place on the post. Then cut off the excess and tune :D. Very easy to change strings this way.

  • Thanks!!!!!

  • what a nib.

  • "It will only wrap around once or twice instead of 6 or 8 times".............WHO WRAPS IT AROUND 6 OR 8 TIMES?!?!?!? Hahaha

  • You'd be surprised!
