did you know that the miners who perished where only paid up until there time of death. the owners didnt even pay them till the end of there shift.pure evil.
I had a look at the list of dead on wikipedia and the oldest man was 87 and the youngest was 14. That really hits hard. It's important that these mining communities don't lose touch of their mining heritage because it makes a lot of what their communitie have become.
Those ages however, really hits home what a hellish place working in a mine was like tho.
Fair play to Wrexham - they played us off the park. I thought the tribute was very moving - I'm glad us Luton Fans did their bit before the match. Shame the team did the same during the match!
thankyou for posting this, i have just returned from working in France for 3 days, i had to miss this match & give my seasonticket card to a friend instead. whilst i missed a great game by the looks of things, at least i have been able to see the memorial service for the Gresford Miners, something i was also upset about having to miss due to work. At least i have now been able to view it, in respectful silence. Thanks again for this excellent post.... RIP to our sadly lost miners 75 years ago.
I would like to say a big thank you to all the Luton Town supporters for their respect during the memorial service held before the match for the 266 miners who lost their lives 75 years ago and whom some are still uncounted for, still buried in the mine underground that was sealed just a few days after the accident on orders of the mine`s management amid claims of a huge cover up from families of the dead. R.I.P.
