@RevengeOO7 After Phelps lost the 200 meter freestlye in Rome, almost everybody screamed that Phelps period is over and he cant beat the technology (Because his contract with speedo he couldnt wear the fast suits Arena made). So its kinda pissed Phelps, and he wanted to prove that he is still the best. So he broke the world record in 200 meter fly, and then smashed Cavic and became the first swimmer ever to break the 50 seconds block in 100 meter fly, without the fast suits. That is the reason.

@MyFelipe69 because no one gave him a chance when they found out phelps would be still supporting his sponsor (speedo) by wearing the speedo lzr (the 6 th fastest suit in the world). especially when they found out that cavic was going to be wearing the arena x glide ( FASTEST suit in the world!). thats why phelps was so pumped.

@SuperVampire345 actually it is faster not to breath for most people as you do not have to waste energy to get high out of the water. But of course, swim 100 meters without breathing won't make you swim fast either ;) Superhuman creatures like Michael Phelps do not do it because with his stroke his hip lowers when he does that.
