You're not crazy. Those following DT for a long time will know JP's soloing is becoming a bit more robotic. Still fantastic, but I just preferred the whole environment of his earlier playing. Sometimes I feel he is trying too hard these days to keep up a shred aura.

Some of his best solos are in LTE and Scene From A Memory.

Yeah, you're right. I have a couple of P.O.S albums and I like them a lot, Daniel's voice is amazing, he sings in the last Ayreon record too.

I've seen a couple of clips from a show of Brett and TJ Helmerich but I don't have any of their cd's, I have Brett's solo album though, it's awesome.

I'm going to see Dream Theater and Opeth next week, my favourite bands playing together... I can't wait.

Petrucci is an awesome composer for pre-recorded solo's with DT and LTE but for pure improvisation check out Brett Garsed and TJ Helmerich, i'm not a huge fan of there songs as i am with Dream Theaters stuff but theyre guitar playing is killer!!!

My favorite guitarist Is Petrucci, and it really pisses me off when people say he has no feeling. Honestly, the only reason they say that is because Petrucci has been labelled a shredder by many, but he's probably the most versatile guitarist I know. He can do anything and make it sound good. It annoys me when people say that only because they heard like a couple Dream Theater songs where he has a shredding solo.
