i keep hearing tards talk about turbo doing more power than superchargers blah blah blah... Changing the pulley on the s/c makes more boost. Smaller pulley more boost/torque. Will make just as much as 22psi not mentioning raising displacement on the s/c and bearing swaps

I'm thinking about getting a 3000GT for my first car because I found one cheap for sale and I was wondering if it would be a good choice. Anyone want to help?

@BxBirthday My first car was a 94 3000GT in a 5spd and it was my first standard. It was easy to learn on and so far I haven't had any problems with it. However if you look up replacement parts for some common engine repairs or replacements, if something does go wrong, it is an expensive car to fix. But I am very happy with this being my first car. I was originally going to go with either a 98 or 03 eclipse but then realized they are WAY to common. There are probably like 3 3000gts where I live.

@MexhomieXlll Putting turbos on a DOHC is a lot cheaper than putting a SC on it, because the VR4 turbos bolt on. I would say you could do this for around $1-1.5k. You can get power cheaper out of turbos but you have lag. With a SC it's instant power. Probably a lot less headache going turbo but I haven't ever don't NA to TT before. Just my .02

@MexhomieXlll superchargers are the old version of turbos that run directly off the engine by a belt,they do the same thing its just that turbos can pump out a lot more boost(Psi) than a supercharger.it just depends on how much boost you need or want which decides which one you get or maybe you just like the sound?

It's called the robo mod.

You take apart the headlights remove the plastic from the lights, and wha la! Robo mod!

I did the same mod to my 3K... put the headlights in the oven. Get them hot enough the where the sealant is kind of stringy and pry evenly around the headlight. When you get the glass off remove the plastic cover and you're done.

Note: you HAVE to have a 94 to do this mod. All other years are painted headlights and are plastic. 94 is the only year they were glass!

Fuckin sick dude. Are you sure it's the base model? cuze the base model is SOHC single over head cam, and the SL is a DOHC duo over head cam so is the vr4, but whatever I was thinking about supercharging my 3000gt instead of going turbo.

91-96 base i believe comes with dohc and 97-99 base have sohc i know be cause i own both

3000gt base models and base model stealths are sohc, all years. Did you swap the engine for the supercharger?

97-99 3000gt base models were sohc. all 3000gts from 91-96 were dohc. you're correct that all base model stealths are sohc though.

@Subz900 yup, only the stealths were sohc on the base models. Though whats the point of making a base and sl then? Oh well, i have dohc, just the valve tick is annoying.

@Jaymobe07 Yeah, I have a 1994 and its a DOHC but like the guy said above the later models ended up getting the SOHC. The valve tick is really annoying. Is there anyway to fix that?

@LogiciaBil yes, upgrade to 3rd gen lifters. the lifters in your 3000gt have a oil hole 1/3 the size of the 3rd gen lifters, this is why they tick. The ticking doesnt hurt the motor any though.

@myst3rykid SOHC didn't exist in the 3000GT models until 97, stealth had the sohc from the beginning with the ES models...every 3000GT up until 97 had DOHC whether it was turbo or non turbo, 222hp in the non turbo(overrated) and 300bhp in the 91-93, 320HP(underrated) in the 94+ in 97 they put the SOHC 161HP motor in the base model and left the DOHC non turbo motor in the SL only for 97-99
