  • They're playing it 'way' too fast.

  • Also, he had already fatigued his voice a bit from a heavy tour schedule (and oversinging too much at one of the shows previous to this one I believe). Anyone who criticizes--note that you cannot sing 100% at every show when you're singing songs that are as challenging as these. And they were on a really brutal tour schedule. If you want to hear him really wailing on this song, listen to the first time they did it live in Belfast March 1971 (here onYouTube)-where his voice was fresh.

  • JustinPierce, true his voice was much better in '77 than it was in '75, but he still couldn't hit the high notes with the range, power, tone or clarity that his voice had from '69-'71. When I listen to some of those concerts from 1969 I think that the people in the back row must have felt a breeze when he hit the high notes. To compare, just listen to a concert from '77 (better than '75) compared to '71 or earlier.

  • Hello there music appreciator.

-Do bluesy bands likes Zeppelin, Floyd, Joplin, Doors, Hendrix, and The Who give you chills? Are you physically attracted to seeking truth in music?

REMEMBER THE GOOD OL TIMES WHEN HENDRIX DROPPED JAWS

  • justinpierce1226 what do you think of plant singing zeppelin songs much softer with band of joy. I really don't like it as i prefer the zeppelin era version

  • To Registerman07

You're right. His voice did go after Houses of the Holy. He still sounded good though. I like the way he sounded in '68 and '69. But now, not so much.

  • God damn Jimmy can't keep up with Jonesy. JPJ, musical genius.

  • I tell you one thing. In the first few years when Zeppelin live were lean mean and hungry there's never been anybody that has touched them. Listen to high quality recordings of some early Zep shows on a good sound system and the best rock of today will sound almost lame by comparison.

  • man i didn't mean for this discussion to get out of hand about robert plant hitting the high notes

  • @culinaryrocks I'll help you end it lol. My grandfather was a roady with Led Zeppelin and still remains a close friend of Page and Robert. Here is the background: Robert Plant did NOT do vocal warm ups or practice much. The band was pure and chaotic and irratic. His voice started taking a toll from not resting it properly, and in the face of what people often believe, he evolved his voice into a pure state. 1974 his voice had gone. He got surgery. By 1977 his vocal power returned.

  • they messed up at :51

  • Sounds like Robert really enjoyed Japan.

  • robert sounds amazing. what a voice.

  • Rofl I think it was this concert but they were tuning while robert keep the crowd busy someone sounded like they threw a egg and robert replyed "fuck you mate"

  • those surgeries took place after Led Zeppelin's 1973 US tour

  • I don't really care what no one cares about.

  • Before plant's voice really started to go after "Houses of the Holy," it seemed he chose to hit the high notes some nights and not others. It still doesn't change the fact that he was one of the best vocalists in rock history!

  • @registerman07 No, THE Best, get it right please, the proof is right in front of you

  • @registerman07 noone really ccares about highnotes, its the atitude and voice, pure rock n roll, like bon scott,he didnt hit them that often, but yet you have to love 'em

  • @3agleh bon scott tries, you can tell that his voice starts breaking after a while of singing live as he gets puffed, which ill admit isnt very proffesional but the notes are literally impossible to hit for him after a he runs out of breath so he sings the next highest note he can. However robert plant is just giving up coz hes too lazy to sing properly

  • @nananaalgoodaye hey,who made you the analyist for rock n roll legends? eithr sing half as good,or respect

  • @3agleh na im just saying, if you cant do it live, dont do it on the record, coz its fuckin disappointing isn't it

  • @nananaalgoodaye ever have a bad day? or better yet...ever have to sing the same song over and over and over til you can't even remember what song it is you're singing at the moment? nobody's perfect! it's impossible for a singer to recreate a performance perfectly the way he did it in the studio. But at least he's up there doin' it, and not sittin' on his rumpus criticizing someone else for not doing it right!

  • @size9xwide but i get out and play in bands, come on dont be such a kissass. hes not even trying, hes basically talking, he is you cant deny.

  • Plant had two surgeries for throat polyps,it diminishes power and range ,and in some cases you can lose your voice if you dont heal right,

  • @PAULOcbi oh my god every singer who fucks up or is lazy live gets bullshit about a throat disease or something, like matt tuck, ronnie winter, matt heafy. David coverdale was told he could never sing again before he went off to sing some of his greatest performances ever

  • @nananaalgoodaye I know but its not bullshit baby its a fact,do the research.Freddie Mercury was told to have throat surgery too for polyps but refused `cos his voice was ALL important.Your prolly not a big enuff to know these details but just take my word if ur too lazy.

  • he could have hit the high notes if he wanted. He simply chose not to.

  • right? =)

  • @culinaryrocks what live? na he could only do it in the studio and was too lazy to do it live while the other members do their job 100 %

  • @culinaryrocks another limiting factor was that he had an unsuccessful throat surgery in late '72

  • Auckland is way better than anything I've heard for this song and stairway, but sadly no immigrant song. I have dreams of how perfect immigrant might have sounded, then again I also have nightmares :P

  • check Led Zeppelin - Black Dog (first time live) - Belfast 1971 in youtube.

I think it's better than osaka version, robert plant still can reach high notes

  • ahhhh, i wish they had the video for this, robert's voice is at it's best right here!

dreams of you all through my head<3

  • Too bad Japanese were not recording videos during concerts because most of Plant's highlight years were never on tape ... You know 68 71 gold years they were young hungry out to prove their stand in rock ...

Later years they started partying too much(cant blame them)

Robert tore it down here .. For sure...

  • where is everyone getting these bootlegs from? i want some from when they were in Atlanta in 1977

  • Most of the boots come out of Japan.

  • I'd like to hear Moby Dick from this concert. Hmm...maybe I should look for it before I post!?

  • this night was my favorite Moby Dick, it is when Bonzo did not want to play it any more, so the arrangement was compleatly different. Military drum rolls.

It sucks, they had recorded some of the Jap shows for a live album but Page was not happy with the quality of the recordings and erased most of them.

  • I have this boot the one from Dublin in 71 is probably not only Plant's best for this song but ever.

  • same, loved 1973 version :)

  • I like your Black Dog 1973
