I KNEW this extraordinary animated short film would win the Oscar...and it DID! This has touched so many people all over the world. I recommend it to all teachers and parents. A sheer JOY to watch!~
This is not just brilliant film-making, it's a beautiful, emotional and deep remembering about the power of books in the lifes of the ones who embrace them. Tears of joy and awe were shed. I applaud you for this amazing short.
why would someone NOT like this? My god... not a single spoken word... this is true art, true soulful art... thanks for posting stuff like this, that make youtube worth again, not all that stupid crap that´s usually seen here...
Watching this, I believe it deserved the Academy Award it won. Not a word was said, but you can feel what the books are feeling just through the music and animation. That is powerful and masterful.
At the very end of the book, it says "In Memory Of... Whom the jealous fate took too soon." That's probably the most powerful line I have ever read from an animated short!
Excelente corto!
The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore (2011)
and there is a reason this won the oscar . so touching and with a message (books enrich us and make our lives whole; and we keep books and imagine "alive" by reading them and taking care of them) . wonderful film !
The windows of the house didn't look the same from the outside and from the inside. From the outside they looked really tall, like 2 stories high, from within the house they looked "normal".
Credit should have been given to Angel Cabral for the musical part copied from "Que nadie sepa mi sufrir" (or "La foule" as it became known via Edith Piaf).
All the text pages on the right handside of the Humpty Dumpty book looked the same. Nevertheless nice movie
@shukiraz Uh, do people point out every tiny thing you do wrong in your job? They already won the Oscar, making negative posts at this point is, well, POINTLESS!
It literally made me tear up... it was the most powerful, beautiful animated short I've ever seen with the beginning representing katrina and then the gray people afterwards being the survivors and there struggles afterwards and his love for books and the happiness he brought everyone else afterwards and then him moving on to heaven and the other girl coming just magnificent! It deserved the oscar!
This is not just brilliant film-making, it's a beautiful, emotional and deep remembering about the power of books in the lifes of the ones who embrace them. Tears of joy and awe were shed. I applaud you for this amazing short.
Muchas felicidades por este trabajo gracias por aportar tan importante mensaje para la gente latina principalmente ya que sabemos que en Europa no hay tanta decadencia de lectura gracias, muchas gracias
Books bring color and meaning to life. Without them it would be an empty and topsy turvy world. Let us hope we shall never see the day the world is devoid of books and people who love them.
Everyone takes what they've learned and loved with them, but we all have the chance to leave behind one special something that might make a difference. Whether it's a promise, or a legend, or even a simple book, we'll all leave a fingerprint on someone else's life somehow.
I'm crying my eyes out! This is so beautiful and inspirational, this has been the best way of spending 15 minutes of my life! I feel like reading my books again and again, and loving them even more, beacuse they're truly my best friends! :')
So the books kidnap him and keep him imprisoned, then at the end they give him false hope of being young again, then they kill him and turn him into a book. And then they kidnap a little girl.
@dillonc Maaaannn, I went all the away no youtube just to say the exact same thing, and your comment was the first on this page!! what are the odds?! Thumbs up them...
Several people commented that it reminded them of The Wizard of Oz which was based on a tornado. I agree that the setting looks like New Orleans with him sitting on a balcony of a building with ironwork, but the storm looks like wind & a funnel cloud vs. a hurricane. There are several comments that think it represents the tragic Hurricane Katrina? I am from North Louisiana & we saw how so many people were affected. Just curious, what kind of storm do you think it is?
@runfar2010 this was made by a studio in Shreveport. I know the people who made it, and they said it was based in New Orleans and that the storm is Hurricane Katrina. They took a few artistic liberties, but they made a very moving, very powerful story.

@shaileshkadhikari I think the quote from the character's book shows the growing christian testimony of his life: "My further investigations have turned many of my long held opinions into mush! The many varied points of view I have encountered do not confuse, but enrich. I laugh. I cry. I seldom understand things but it is..." While watching the film pause on the page he is writing. :) I pray you smile as you investigate your opinions & encounter others' point of view of Christian life! :)
