I think it is a combination of the metal on the front of the case (not the filter, that makes it better for me) like the holed stuff, and the drive cages. It does not bother me as much even on high. Still anonying a bit though eh?
My fan sounds exactly like yours. I think this is just how the airflow sounds coming through the front structure of the case. I took my front dust filter off today for a washing and noticed how god-awful loud the front fan is (at all speeds) with the fan filter off. The filter probably restricts a fair bit of air flow, thus acting as a muffler.
@Thecashflowman very easy to change the fan. Take both side panels off. Press in the 4 white clips (or black) then pull the front panel off. Undo the 4 screws where the fan is on the front side then just pull the fan out from between the hard drive bays :) hope this helps.
I have the same case and have come to the conclusion its a design fault, the front fan is way to close the grill so its creating positive air pressure between the grill and blades.
@Matt54315 It actually made it better but there's still a whining noise. I sprayed some oil inside the fan and its silent when spinning outside the case.
I ordered some screws and rubber grommets that should make the fan sit further out but i ordered the wrong size, i will post results when i get a chance

Did the replacement fan solve the problem?
