Nice Video That You Share , So Very Nice Thanks You Facebook's Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg delivered the keynote at Barnard College's 119th Commencement ceremony.
I Really Like The Video From Your Facebook's Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg delivered the keynote at Barnard College's 119th Commencement ceremony.
Your Video Is Very Useful Sharing Addressing approximately 600 members of Barnard's Class of 2011, Sandberg implored the young women to "never let your fear overwhelm your desire
"Remember this: you...are...awesome." Imagine a man saying that to an all-male class. Would that be flagged as sexism? It's funny how women can endlessly applaud themselves, while men are chauvinists for congratulating themselves on the basis of gender. Feminism is exhausting and hypocritical to the extreme. I've lost count of how many times women write "I'm awesome" on their social media profiles. And do you everyone would be ok if a 60-40 college population gender disparity went towards men?
Great speech about equality for women. But.... there was hardly a black graduate in the crowd. We need to focus on that too. I strongly disagree with Sheryl's statement that the majority of housework/childcare FALLS to women. I believe that many women take it upon THEMSELVES. Far too many women go into relationships with men assuming that they (the women) will have to do everything, and this becomes self-fulfillling. Expect (not demand) more from men in this vein, and so it will be!
LeifEriksson, get out and really talk to women. your biological evolutionary guidelines do seem to explain things nicely but that's the problem with that field. These rules seems so easy that they're applied to every social scenario. Proponents ferociously cling to them even when reality is much more complicated. Women do want to achieve and in many cases, not for the same reasons that men do. Life is more complicated than the survival of the fittest theory would lead you to believe.
Men are more motivated than women for simple biological reasons. Most men are fantastically unattractive. But men who can build business empires, are powerful politicians, hilarious comedians, gifted musicians, etc. are rewarded with female sexual access. From an evolutionary standpoint, a woman is wasting her effort to do any of these things men do because women, we naturally find you attractive anyway. It's not discrimination women face, just they lack the biological motivations of men.
Sheryl confidently shows her vulnerable, naturally feminine side, and is authentic and powerful. Our energy is different: Women are collaborators, men are competitors. She leads with ALL her strengths. "It is the ultimate luxury to combine passion and contribution...a clear path to happiness." We can be leaders in whatever we choose to be: lead a company, work in a job that fulfills us, or raise your family. The key is to make it our choice, and to "Lean in to your success." Live your joy.
How do you really achieve greatness? Start by getting things done in your life: 1. Make a list of things to do to get there 2. Decide how you can achieve them: (a) collaborate with friends (b) barter tasks with someone who can help (c) challenge someone to get there first 3. Get things done & track success. This is tapTank. It's a free platform to plug in your Facebook, Twitter & LinkedIn connections to get things done. Sign up to use it now before social achievement goes mass market

"We want women of all levels including the top" Sheryl
NOT when was the last time I heard women complain about NOT being registered to the draft or NOT dying in the coal mines or NOT dying from construction jobs. If all these women want all these top jobs then having kids will be a problem. THeir kids will be raised by strangers and it will leave a generation of motherless and fatherless kids. Which will lead to the destruction of humanity. Men and women are COMPANUION not competitor.
I'm very inclined to dislike this woman because I hate facebook not just as a website, but as a company. But this was a great speech. Love that quote "we'll never close the achievement gap until we close the ambition gap." I'll definitely be using that one...

Run-of-the-mill commencement rhetoric. But certain parts are disturbingly sexist. Others are merely disturbing. Those dystopian novels were written for a reason. Men and women alike need to learn the difference between equality and Sameness - FAST - or we are going to have some serious problems down the road, ones that make voting rights crusades look like an innocent memory.
there is no try...only the young....Do something, do something different that is what my Mother taught to me. She raise 6 children, myself the one who encouraged he to be my MOM, not my friend" instead of Quitting high school I spent 8 years in the University System in USA. I was born in Chicago. well, we moved alot.. I gratefully encourage you to follow your dreams not some one who is going to tread on them.
Love this! She's awesome and inspiring. I love her point that women make small decisions along the way to put their career second. Of course, we should each follow our hearts, but Sandberg points out that we are making choices early on, before we even realize it, to marginalize ourselves and let our work take a backseat.
I am inspired in a sense, but there is no such thing as equality in the world of men and women. Women and Men have different goals...as they should. God has made us with awesome differences that at the end of the day, It balances the world, The home, and the business world. A women can be as good as a business person as a man. But we are wired differently ..It is what it is! I am a business woman and I have different roles as my husband. I am thankful for that.
@ewingful Equality doesn't mean we all do the same thing - it means we all have the equal opportunity to pursue a life that is right for us as individuals. I also have different roles than my husband, but they are defined by who we are as people, not by our genders.
Still on of my favorite speeches

Great Vision! How to we make it come true? How about a couple of practical measures?
1. Let our daughters know that cheerleaders don't make leaders. Encourage them to PLAY sports.
2. Ask our corporations to have Family Support department to free up employees from mundane tasks. Would Facebook lead the way?
