Your parents take relatives out to dinner to tell them that you're gay, and they phone other relatives to tell them (haven't seen the whole video so maybe they mail people as well).
What the fuck... do you have a fatal disease that needs to be disclosed to everyone by them?
Can't they just find out through natural/normal conversation? Must they be "prepared" first so they don't have a heart attack finding out later?
Science and Religion should stop scrutinizing Gay people. Moms who secretly hate and reject the life growing in their wombs make their children gay. It is time to investigate the moms.
Check out this video on Youtube: "Mom made my sister Gay"
i might be late. but im just wondering, arent you afraid anyone you know at your school might come across your channel and see that youre gay? since you dont wanna come out yet? just asking.
Loved your coming out story. You'd enjoy being gay in Europe. All those gay hockey-playing Czech, Russian and Swedish guys (and Canadians too) to hang out with after the game. Being gay in the US must be tough because there seem to be so many weird rules: gays can't like sports; gays have to like opera blah blah. Just be yourself and have a nice life!
i cant believe people 6 people didnt like this. It annoys me that people like him, that put their personal story online. some dont realize that stuff like this is hard for people to say, but even more so with teenagers because of increased pressure from the people from school. i have no experence with this, but my friend went through this, and to believe that someone wouldn't be supportive of this is very sad and disappointing in todays society.
i wish a active Pro Athlete would come out and say that they are Bi or Gay. As person who is Bi when it comes too sports well i just think your truly brave coming out. i will check out your other videos too see if you update how things have gone for you two years from this posting.
brought back many memories, I was a gay athlete, played college and semi pro baseball, hockey, and a huge Red Wings fan, obviously from Detroit. My partner of 21 years hates sports, is all about Judy Garland, Broadway musicals, calls me a bad fag, which I am, and have always been. To this day I have nothing in common with most gay men, other than my attraction to men. Life is short, find love and embrace it, don't look for the PERFECT match, find someone to love and hold on to them
The problem with gAy stereotypes is that it is the GAY COMMUNITY that promotes them. Maybe, just maybe -- if you want the world to stop thinking of gays as pansies & freaks ... that the GAY COMMUNITY aught to stop representing ITSELF in that light.. Some guys have completely rejected the term "gAy" as a result!
G00GLE g0ys (spelled w. a zer0) for a stunning expose on regular guys who happen to love guys /too!
You and I seem to have a good amount in common. I'm not a Hockey enthusiast so much, but I LOOVE Track and Field. You're right, it can be hard to face the homophobia in the locker room (though I consider myself lucky; with the exception of the word "Fag" being thrown around a few times a week, it isn't so bad).
I also don't like living with the whole "effeminate-gay-guy" stereotype in society. I'm Bi, but it still can be a pain in the a**, and, to be honest, degrading to my masculinity.
My boyfriend is the coach of a hockey team. I don't enjoy sports but I become enthusiatic about it cause its important to him. Thats how a relationship works.
"... I consider it a waste of time to argue with a flaming fag..."
You say that you don't want to waste time in an argument, and yet not only did you initiate this conversation with me, but you continue talking, despite my conspicuous apathy and amusement at your ranting.
"...all gay people are just huge sobbing momma's boys..."
You're trying too hard, dude. You're overacting the role of flame bait.
Nothing that you're saying is even remotely serious. Your intention is to incite emotions and indignation, and you're using invectives as bait. I'm not a hypersensitive person by any definition, so I'm ambivalent to your petulant and meaningless fury.
Hockey is my FAVORITE sport!!! =) UR so cute!!! UR face is so handsome and ur hair is gorgeous!!! UR a total hottie!!! Right at the end of the video you smiled- You have the most beautiful smile!!! Come to Florida, i want a guy who's into sports too!!!
Scott, I would just like to type, no matter your sexuality, no one has the right to judge you. And all those stereotype things are just to bring you down. Don't let them get to you. You seem like a really good person and I hope they were very accepting of you at school. =]
Well, I'm really feminine, but I don't like fashion, and shopping, etc. But I'm not exactly masculine. I don't like sports, just because I don't like doing it, or really watching it. There's still plenty of homophobia everywhere. It needs to stop.
@EnterWittyPhraseHere every one of your comments is full of hypocrisy. It just shows how much of a tard you are. those who contradict themselves can never win an argument.
No response, after all of that huffing and puffing? Your attack fizzled out quickly.
Since you are unable to produce any instances of hypocrisy in my writing, I'll gladly provide an illustration of hypocrisy for you, from your actions here, to help you understand what that word means.
An example of hypocrisy would be a person making an explicit accusation, with the pretense that the allegation is self-evident, and then shying away from providing specific evidence or examples.
@EnterWittyPhraseHere I just didn't feel like elaborating, it was fairly evident and I consider it a waste of time to argue with a flaming fag and copy his comments when his opinion is clearly meaningless. Fags don't have good opinions because they are mentally ill. You are probably wearing a fluffy pink scarf and pink sun glasses and high heels rubbing your dick to little boys on youtube. get a life sick fuck.
"... You are probably wearing a fluffy pink scarf and pink sun glasses and high heels rubbing your dick to little boys on youtube. get a life sick fuck..."
Yeah man, flawless logic.
Gay person = pink sunglasses, pink scarf, high heels, pedophile, and chronic masturbator.
I stand in awe at your profound comprehension.
But seriously man, you should write a book about gay people. I'd pay real money to read it, for the entertainment value alone.
@EnterWittyPhraseHere Typical fag, running to the democrats begging for more cash because, "everyone discriminate against gay people" They act like they are a race. So we should treat pedophiles as a race too. Go run to Obama and beg for him to make real men pay for your life, because we all know fags just want to be pampered and taken care of. Shirking responsibility of being a man, probably because all gay people are just huge sobbing momma's boys.
"...Typical fag, running to the democrats begging for more cash..."
You do realize that the Medicaid gag was a joke, right?
Yeah man, you've exposed and thwarted our secret plot to steal government money and use it to buy hoards of pink scarves and pink sunglasses. You may have won this time, but mark my words, we shall one day have enough pink sunglasses to blot out the sun!
It is frustrating when guys act feminine. No matter what your sexual orientation is, you are still born a man and should act as one. If a guy is acting feminine he just wants to be pampered and taken care of and shirk his responsibilities as a man. If your a man, you act like one. That simple.
"...if it's ancient and it survived so long there must be a truth to it..." -- Just... Wow... This is a gem. When this appeared in my inbox, I had the urge to print this and hang this on a wall somewhere. I see the light now! Longevity equals accuracy! Brilliant! How did I not see this before? Certainty at last! Okay, but seriously... there's a relationship between chronological persistence of ideas and the truth behind them? Really? This is your argument in favor of Christianity?
There's a bit of poetic irony in your position, which you seem to be unaware of. Although atheism is not a belief system, as an epistemic position it predates any variety of Christianity by a long shot. Epicurus. Democritus. Protagoras. Theodorus of Cyrene. And so on. But to be clear, I would never argue that any position is accurate based solely on 'historical durability' or the longevity of commitment to an idea. Ideas stand on their own merits.
"...If the bible was book written by god you would claim that it was written by humanity wouldn't you?..." -- Well, it is written by humans. We even know many of their names, at least ostensibly. As far as divine guidance, I find that idea to be highly implausible, given the morally bankrupt nature of so much of the Bible. That's totally aside from the absurdities regarding natural history which can be demonstrably invalidated through empiricism, such as the Genesis mythology.
"...During evrey comment I made I did so with a hope you would reckonize that I believe in my beliefs just as strongly as you do yours..." -- My 'beliefs', stretching that word, is that it is better to understand reality through reason and evidence-based scrutiny, rather than be an unthinking and passive product of whatever surrounding ecclesiastical influences which you happened to inherit through sheer accident of birth location. I'll take the role of explorer over driftwood any day.
It's really too bad you and many others like yourself have to go through the homophobia and hatred. One friend of mine actually coaches a high school football team, and he has a very strict rule about never using two particular words, or they're suspended/cut. The two words (I'm sorry for even typing them here because they make me sick) are faggot (or fag) and nigger. More people need to take the same lead he did. I hope more do soon.
@Kate830 Thanks Kate! I was pretty sure it was American football, but
i wasn't 100% sure. It's a little sad, the only major leagues Canada is represented in are baseball (Toronto Blue Jays and formerly Montreal expos I
believe), and many teams in the NHL. None in the NFL or NBA, though if it happened, the N might come to mean "North American" instead of "National". I would be for it, as there are plenty of large cities "up north", Probably won't happen, but u never know...
I know that you are going to have a strong aversion to me dissecting and snubbing the foundation of your faith, but if you are going to cite biblical authority as the grounds under which you are hostile to homosexuality, then the issue is unavoidable. Using ancient mythology as grounds to make ignorant and rambling arguments that homosexuality offends the cosmos is absurd, and I will pound such arguments accordingly.
@EnterWittyPhraseHere I hold fast to my beliefs just as strongly as you do yours and if it's ancient and it survived so long there must be a truth to it. I'm certain that it doesn't offend the cosmos in the same way I'm certain it offends god. If the bible was book written by god you would claim that it was written by humanity wouldn't you? The sole reason you would claim this being you don't believe what I believe. My belief structure is simpily based upon god.
"...if it's ancient and it survived so long there must be a truth to it..." -- What about belief structures more ancient than your own? By your standard, the Vedic creeds have truth to them, perhaps even more so than your particular belief system, since they have survived longer than any Abrahamic creed. What about witchcraft? Psychics? Ghosts? Animism? All have ancient roots to the present. These beliefs have persisted in part because humans are perpetually encultured into them.
@EnterWittyPhraseHere If you don't want people to insult or use their own beliefs to counter yours then I would advise that you do what you want me to do. "You were merely taught to think so by people equally infected by the illusion" So are you saying that human culture is based upon something other then humans themselves? Your perception of the bible is equal to mine about homosexuality.
@EnterWittyPhraseHere "I know you are going to have a strong aversion to me dissecting and snubbing your faith" OBVIOUSLY! During evrey comment I made I did so with a hope you would reckonize that I believe in my beliefs just as strongly as you do yours. I urge you to notice that not a single animal performs sexual acts with an animal of the same gender. Therefore it would seem that homosexuality is an abomination to nature. This seems to be proof to me that homosexuality is wrong.
"...I urge you to notice that not a single animal performs sexual acts with an animal of the same gender..." -- You urge me? Well, there's a bit of a road-bump. You're wrong. It is well established in peer-reviewed medical literature and the natural sciences that homosexuality exists within nature. So, I have to decline your request. You don't watch National Geographic or the Discovery Channel very often, do you? I suspect that you have been sheltered within an information bubble.
"... If you don't want people to insult or use their own beliefs to counter yours then I would advise that you do what you want me to do..." -- You're assuming that I'm bothered by someone questioning my thoughts, and I'm not. I'm totally dissimilar to you in that respect. I don't live in a sheltered and cloistered private bubble, wherein ideas are immune from examination and scrutinized inquiry. It's called the marketplace of ideas, and the stagnation of silence is intellectual death.
The Bible is an ancient human-written book. Nothing more, nothing less. Your belief structure is a cognitive illusion injected into you from your surrounding influences. There is no Abrahamic God. There is nothing divine about the Bible, any more than there is anything divine about the Odyssey or the Koran. You were merely taught to think so by people equally infected by the illusion. Using sections of the text as a reference for forming your attitudes is asinine.
I can use many different arguments against the reasoning which you have laid out. For one, I could argue correctly that your religion has no rightful authority to demand conformity within society from anyone. However, I think that bluntly rejecting the veracity of your religion is the most honest and direct method of responding, since it addresses the core validity of your underlying thought-patterns, and gets to the heart of how absurd this whole situation is.
Random question: I notice in your profile you're Canadian. You mentioned football in this clip. I know that in most of the world, "football" is what's known as "soccer" in the states. What's it in Canada? Is it the same as tackle (flag/touch) football or is it (what we call here) soccer? Just curious.
By the way, I have to give my appreciation for your time. You've demonstrated my basic point here that there is no argument -- or valid basis whatsoever -- which legitimizes animosity or prejudice towards homosexuality. All attempted arguments are rooted either in blatant immaturity, or are rooted in blind and unthinking adherence to superstitious Bronze Age dogmas. When put under the light of rational analysis, the arguments fall apart like a badly-stacked house of cards.
"... I will not bother to even say anything unless you refrain from writing in such a strange manner..." -- So, I guess that doesn't include writing down a statement saying that you will not write anything.
I'm just curious about the logic and rationale that you are using against gays. I'm trying to understand it. Because when you peel away the prejudicial arguments against gay people, and really examine and dissect the thought-patterns, there are only three categories of motivating stimuli:
A. Religion (i.e. "Insert scriptural reference or condescending pious commentary here")
B. Infantile peevishness (i.e. "I don't like them because its icky")
"... I won't reply when you decide to spout off random and unconnected sentences..." -- Really, dude? Are you that easily sidetracked and thrown off-course? You're so brittle and impetuous. The slightest use of metaphors or detail makes you scream in agonized protest. No matter how many times I try dragging you back onto the question of justifying the ethics behind your position against gays, you manage to find some pretext to avoid doing so. Such consistent evasiveness speaks volumes.
As long as you realise that many will ostracize you from what you enjoy. The club of the self righteous will put you on the outer. I'm not saying this to harm you my friend, but warn you of uneducated stereotypes given to our brothers. I sincerely hope things work out for you. I give you my esteem friend, so that you build your self esteem and do not fall for the trap of Pride (stolen esteem)
"... stop reading that dictionary and theasurus and try going outside your house..." -- Possessing intelligence and being athletic are not mutually-exclusive characteristics. Only a child trapped in a stale and hermetically-sealed social clique with a generalized resentment towards athletes would be compelled to think so.
@EnterWittyPhraseHere Clearly you didn't take me seriously when I told you that I won't reply when you decide to spout off random and unconnected sentences. Obviously you're quite troubled and have an extremely unfocused perspective as you cannot hold a thought for longer then 2sentences. I will not bother to even say anything unless you refrain from writing in such a strange manner.
what the hell do u not understand about what he said? its pretty clear to me. He was basically asking you to justify why you are being such a prick to us. Thats basically what he said, just in better language.
@mik2sequeb3 I don't like gay people because imagine this...your a normal straight person in a dressing room. Then some gay person is staring at you as you start to change...its disturbing and its like putting me in a girls change room. Also my beliefs make it clear that I have to be opposed to homosexuals. I seem to notice that animals are always "straight"...which makes me wonder if gays are going against nature. My point of view based upon this is that homosexuality is wrong.
I could use the perfectly valid argument that it is idiotic to assume that gays are wholly preoccupied with sex-related thoughts. However, I think addressing the basic triviality and silliness of your attitude is more suitable. Oh, how terrible for you. Someone, somewhere, for some reason, might be attracted to you, and you don't share the attraction back. It happens to me often. That's life. I don't see how such an argument is valid grounds to be hostile to a broad group.
@mik2sequeb3 if your wondering upon what in my belief makes me think homosexuality is wrong look in the christian bible in romans chapter one verses 26-27. I don't hate you and if I am a prick to you it's because of your acceptance and how you embrace homosexuality. For me it's as hard to accept homosexuality as it is for you to accept that it's wrong if that gives you an idea.
Blah blah blah. Basically in a nutshell: the Bible tells me that I should treat you like shit, therefore I will. Then add in "some gay guy might be attracted to me! eww... gross!". Enterwittyphrasehere was right. thats all you really have. Religious bullshit and immaturity. Why do you even care if a guy is attracted to you. I could give less of a crap if a girl is attracted to me. Are you that sensitive and insecure about your body?
"... I don't feel any particular inclination to squabble over no obvious subject..." -- Well, that's precisely what you've been doing for the longest time now, much to my frustration. Quibbling over nothing, running in circles, and whining with feigned offense that I mocked your spelling and grammar. I haven't been evasive or opaque towards you at all. I've been engaged in an epic effort in trying to pull you into explaining exactly why you despise gays -- in case you didn't notice.
I'll repeat that again: I don't care about your bad spelling and toddler-like grammar. It's inconsequential. Besides, it is unwise to get entangled with grammar quarrels. No one's articulation is absolutely perfect, including my own, and it's such a banal subject. Hitting people with the subject is generally below-the-belt. I avoid raising the matter unless a person obliviously prances around pretending to be knowledgeable despite a clear deficiency of intellect and integrity.
You seem to have problems with reading comprehension, in addition to difficulties with writing -- which we have already painfully established. I'll repeat myself. I've said about three times now that I don't actually care how well you can write. It's ultimately irrelevant. It's a pointless tangent. Period. I can't make my view on that matter any more transparent. I brought it up as a pithy aside; it was a capricious observation made purely out of amusement at your condition.
Worked up? I'm not offended by you, if that is what you are insinuating. I'm amused at you. Literally. No joke. You're like a football player who fumbles every ball that touches his hands, and yet imagines himself as the MVP. You're the gift of laughter that keeps on giving.
@EnterWittyPhraseHere What I'm saying is if you have a matter you would like to discuss with me please do so. Otherwise I couldn't be bothered to reply to your rather strange comments about football players, random access memory, and various subjects including other languages...my point is what exactly is the theme of your entire roster of comments? You should also stop reading that dictionary and theasurus and try going outside your house.
"... what exactly is the theme of your entire roster of comments..." -- Was it not obvious? I asked you earlier to make clear and justify the ethics of your position towards gays. I'm not at all offended by you, but I'm curious as to why you feel that you are vindicated in your animosity and contempt. Keep in mind that no one is forcing you to accept anything. You can run along, and do or say whatever you wish. But I'm openly challenging the maturity and integrity of your attitude.
"...Free speech comes with a free set of armour made by hephestus..." -- The only comical part of this retort is that you misspelled the name of the deity that you invoked in a petulant attempt to simulate knowledge. Not that it really matters, but it was worth mentioning. Sorry for all the spelling jokes, but it's so damn tempting with you. I just can't resist, and yet it's so beneath me to mock a person for this reason. I'll refrain henceforth.
Not that I necessarily always do. I need to make that clear. There are exceptions; people who speak English as a second language being the most obvious exemption. Grammar is an imprecise standard of measurement for intelligence, since 'intelligence' is not straightforwardly quantifiable. There's raw IQ, which is little more than computing power -- like RAM. Then there's critical thinking skills, temperament, rote memory of topics, scientific literacy and wisdom, which are all separate.
This conversation has gone on a tangent anyways. Like I said earlier, I could actually care less how well you can write. I made those jokes about you on a whim. I would never have guessed that you would press the issue and that you would make an utter fool of yourself in the process. What really matters is that I felt that it was necessary to respond to your infantile and intellectually bankrupt notions about gays.
@EnterWittyPhraseHere Why the hell would I ever want to know about what you think about how well I can write?? You either have a really big ego or your completely mental. If you call what you said jokes...I definately don't want to see what you call a pun. I suppose you don't think of yourself as an utter fool either. At the moment we both think of each other "utter fools" how droll. "infantile and intellectually bankrupt" Hmm...somebodys sure worked up about my views.
Being terse with you has probably distracted you from the main topic. No one is forcing you to accept anything. You don't have to accept anyone. You have a right to behave immaturely and snappishly, if you choose, and to treat fellow humans with contempt for meaningless reasons that would only make sense if framed in the context of children interacting in playground politics. However, I'm genuinely curious about why you choose to pursue such a path. What is the point?
@EnterWittyPhraseHere I don't feel any particular inclination to squabble over no obvious subject. You haven't really said anything about this "subject" and if you have you have been very round about in doing it. (through various subtle insults and random sentences on your idea's about morality)
".... I really don't find anything intreasting about your observation in fact it bores me and your judgement is meaningless..." -- Indeed. I'm sorry that I failed to captivate your "intreast". I'll work harder next time.
Just a note: I could actually care less how well you write. I made a passing and flippant comment on a whim based on your apparent intelligence taken as a whole. I could swear that there's a correlation between people having cluttered and broken prose and also being infected with a more generalized virus of ignorance. This is not always the case, but the frequency of this observation is nevertheless interesting. Just my judgment. Free speech is a double-edged sword.
@EnterWittyPhraseHere I don't see any main thought in your 500 character note all it seems to be is a bunch of jibberish. Refrain from pointing your finger at anyone when saying "cluttered and broken prose" What is it that you speak of when saying ignorence. I do not think I have said or debated anything with you. I really don't find anything intreasting about your observation in fact it bores me and your judgement is meaningless. Free speech comes with a free set of armour made by hephestus.
"... I do not think I have said or debated anything with you..." -- You're right. You didn't. But you laid out an opinion, and I responded. I don't share my colleague's disdain for you on the grounds that you shouldn't have said anything. I'm rather firm in the view that the tastelessness or banality of speech in no way impairs a person's right to broadcast it. Speak as loud as you wish. But if you post opinions publicly, expect possible opposition. Don't whine about it.
@EnterWittyPhraseHere you are hilarious. xD The lack of thought behind your comments and hypocrisy can only mean you are a massive faggot with a pink scarf and high heels having a fight with a kid online. xD
"... What is it that you speak of when saying ignorence..." -- The idea that you dislike people based on innate, immutable, and utterly harmless physiological characteristics for no apparent reason. That, and I suppose also your blind fidelity to the most mundane, superficial, and utterly inaccurate stereotypes regarding gay people.
gtfo all u gays -.-' let us hetrosexuals have a choice in wanting to accept you or not its just plain wrong how you think you can just force the world into accepting you all i for one do not its sort of disgusting to watch a guy try and act like a girl or a girl like a guy it pisses evrey kid i know off if you ever went to my school you'd have it hard. If you gays want to ever get accepted don't give us that right to be accepted shit cauz we'll just give you right to be ignored speech
@x2Ice2x dont be a punk bitch dumbass. If you werent such an ignorant piece of shit you might actually have a friend in life instead of being a bitch. I am a hetrosexual and you need to stop trying to make these people feel bad for being gay. Its not your life so leave him alone jack ass.
@InfinateToxin btw "punk bitch dumbass" ..ehm ok so you hate me now for telling you what i feel about gay people??? ok then so i guess free speech is not allowed when it comes to being gay huh? i guess we all must just "accept" them and "leave them alone" and i have plenty of friends whats with the "ignorant" whats there to be ignorant about..? i might be ignorant about some things but the way you used that word does not make sense...please put more thought into your comments. just saying.
@InfinateToxin I just love ignorant female dogs! So you mean to say that I rule over a kingdom of female dogs? Beware knave! I shall set them upon you! Sic em girls!
@x2Ice2x If i was gay I would have told you! and btw i never said I hate you and I never said you HAD to accept them. I am just that your gonna say get the fuck off all you gays. If you didnt like this why did you post a comment? and every friend that gets mad when gay people act like girls can mind their own damn business. Like i said if you dont like it leave them alone.
@InfinateToxin I always enjoy taking a dig at matters such as this it creates quite the discussion and i appreciate the effort you put forth to tell me your not gay i know you never said that you hate me but the words you used insinuate a drastic amount of seeming hate towards me. I posted a comment simpily to exersise my right of free speech on a matter that is quite controversial. Why should i not be able to tell homosexual people that i do not like that they are that way.
I fully understand your anger dude, but this probably is not the most effective or rational way to respond. He's goading you and taking pleasure in it.
That is one of the reasons why I stay away from 'the scene': most of my freinds are straight but them I end up being attracted to straight guys: they like me and all but not 'like that'.So yeah, life can be frustrating sometimes...The good thing is where you live (the US), there are lots of guys like you (us) you can relate to: they are 'invisible' to the rest of the population but with an attuned gaydar and a lot of patience...:)
Coming out to your team may be (or have been) diffucult. There is indeed a lot of homophobia in sports. I think young men use it to defuse any ambiguity (after all, they are in a locker room naked, with other naked guys!)
But in fact coming out (if weel played) could make things change: that will really depend on your position in the team, if your teammates like you or not, if they look up to you...
You may actually elicit change...In any case, not being a stereotype is not always easy
Not so hard actually (at least for me) if you're confident with who you are...What I meant was, if you're a man who's not sure about your sexuality (like 90% teenagers), the last thing you want is to be called gay. So you cast the 'blame' on someone else, just to draw the others' attention away from you. It's very effective, and by the same token, it reinforces the impression that 'you're a real man', cause you can question and judge others, while in fact, it's your own sexuality
you are questioning...That's the way I see it...It is a type of behaviour that is common among males, especially young ones...They need a strong role model to 'mould' their personnalities after.
Scott could be that role model he comes out (maybe he has)....Who knows...When I was his age (not so long ago) things were also tough for me, because you wanna be accepted but those you call your friends say homophobic jokes all the time without realising....
half the gay guys are actually just like you, wont tell the people around them out of fear, so all you notice are the flamboyant ones, my boyfriend is bi and probably what america would call a jock and this disproportionate fear he has is anyone finding out is similar to yours, just keep in mind your not a unicorn, when your older things should die down and it will be cool for you to just tell anyone who you are, cute story
Wow I know what you mean I'm am a wrestler and the shit I hear in the locker room makes me so mad sometimes. But I totally get what ur saying rock on?
Oh yeah, some of the guys in the locker-room who are most "homophobic" are actually those who are most afraid of being thought of as "gay". And sometimes (many times) they are. They are just not as evolved as you and are putting up defenses. Have some patience for them, but don't allow them to abuse you. Again, there are gay guys out there who are totally into sports...many of them. Let the hate wash over you. Remain honest and brave. You will be fine. I am proud of you.
Eh, I hate it when people make a big deal out of being gay. You know, those guys who are SO paranoid and think of having a gay friend as a bad thing, because they THINK they'll hit on them. Me, I'm not gay, but I could care less if one of my friends turned out to be. I go for personality over sexuality. If you're personality sucks, GTFO of my life. But, if you're gay, trans, bi, pansexual, whatever, as long as you're not a jerk, then we're cool.
First: there are many gay athletes. And many gay men who like athletics. They are out there: 1. Donal Og Cusak 2. John Amaechi 3. Billy Bean 4. Thomas Berling 5. Glenn Burke 6. J.P. Calderon 7. Justin Fashanu 8. Ed Gallagher 9. Peter Karlsson 10. Chris Morgan 11. Pat Patterson.....and many, many more. Also, you don't need to be with another athlete to have a successful relationship. All you need is mutual respect for each other's interests. You will be fine. Enjoy Hockey!
I think people (both straight and gay) need to realise that you can be straight and like stereotypically 'gay' things, and you can be gay and like sports etc. Gay guys are still guys.
Hello From England. I totally agree with you, of course you can love all sorts of sports and be gay. Here in the UK we have plenty of gay football, rugby and many other gay teams and sportsmen. I have been looking at your videos and think your just one great guy, be Proud ! By the way I'm a welder and engineer so not the usual stereotype lol
Scott, I very much like your message about us gays who play sports and love them not for any reason else besides that we love sports. Why does it have to mean anything else? That one passes over my head. I'm a gay jock as well, even though I'm not out. I play a ton of sports. Mainly football (and I'm really good at it) and I have been playing it since I was 6. I love the sport...hate the descriminition. As you talked about how terrible it is in sports such as "locker room talk"...
I am happy that I see a lot of good comments, getting out of the closet is one thing, then thinking what kind of person you are is another... I know you have to be yourself and find happiness. The society is evolving, at least that is good for now. ^_^
When we come out of the closet, we seek a world in which we will never feel shame again. We identify this world as the gay community. But in the process of building this idealized, substitute family, we often confuse security with conformity.
When others are not being gay in a way that makes us comfortable, out of our own insecurity, we sometimes attempt to shame them into our image and likeness, just as some heterosexual bullies did to us.
@aManOnaJourney .....I am currently reading a compilation of Brian McNaught's selected writings "A Disturbed Peace"...and it's quitely disturbing...and moving too...
Ive learned the key to my happiness is in knowing/loving/being myself - not in knowing/loving/being what others expect of me.
My happiness results when I find & live what works for me today and when I accept that what works for me will not necessarily work for everyone who is GLBTTQ.
Mel2793 Sounds like your judging those feminine gay guys. You want to be accepted yet you find negativity in the way others act also. The stereotypical gay guys that are on tv are a camera creation. Do you also hate the girls that act feminine? This is YOUR issue, and seems to be about fear of how others will perceive you as a result of being gay, and you don't want to be considered feminine.
Yup I agree Bigbird5553. It's not about feminity because most of the gay men that I've run into are actually not feminine thats just Television... lol.
Scott, you are not alone. I'm gay and I think that hockey is totally awesome (don't play it, but try and watch it religiously). I hate the stereotype about people thinking that gay people can't appreciate sports. Also, I totally agree with you that people rag on sports players for being "gay" (as a derogatory comment). Having friends and family who play hockey, I know the mentality of a lot convos in the locker room. Just wanted to let you know that you aren't alone and keep up the good work.
Scott, thanks for sharing yourself and your feelings with us.
I grew up in the '60's and '70's, which was an accepting time generally , but born to parents from the '50's (the Beaver Cleaver imaginary years). It pleases me that the country is evolving for the better, and guys like you and the internet are helping everbody. Keep up the good work. I've subscribed!
i will never understand why they call it "comming out of the closet"... anyways great family for me it was tghesame though nobodt told really... my new it was comming all along she told dad baefore i had the chanse grandma don't care and pretty much te same for the wholr family... but im just happy to have a great family... have it great peace out!
IdanPink: It stems from the old saying "Skeletons in the closet", meaning all familys have secrets they keep from everyone on the outside. So when someone reveals their secret about being gay, they call it "coming out of the closet".
Trust me you are not the only gay man that loves sports. I love sports, especially NASCAR, college basketball (men's and women's), NFL, WNBA, tennis, etc. I enjoy hockey during the Olypics but I just have never been around it in order to find true interest in the NHL. So, don't worry, there is someone out there that has the same passion as you. And with you athletes like yourself coming out at such young ages, hopefully it won't be long be those attitudes in the lockerroom change. Vid is grt
Heh football. Whole buncha guys in tight spandex trying to throw each other on the ground. I can see why they'd need to be defensive. LOL im just kidding! Great coming out vid!
Fuck that.

It annoys me that people like him, that put their personal story online. some dont realize that stuff like this is hard for people to say, but even more so with teenagers because of increased pressure from the people from school. i have no experence with this, but my friend went through this, and to believe that someone wouldn't be supportive of this is very sad and disappointing in todays society.

brought back many memories, I was a gay athlete, played college and semi pro baseball, hockey, and a huge Red Wings fan, obviously from Detroit.

EnterWittyPhraseHere 1 year ago 9
@x2Ice2x

EnterWittyPhraseHere 1 year ago
@EnterWittyPhraseHere I hold fast to my beliefs just as strongly as you do yours and if it's ancient and it survived so long there must be a truth to it. I'm certain that it doesn't offend the cosmos in the same way I'm certain it offends god. If the bible was book written by god you would claim that it was written by humanity wouldn't you? The sole reason you would claim this being you don't believe what I believe. My belief structure is simpily based upon god.
x2Ice2x 1 year ago
@x2Ice2x

This seems to be proof to me that homosexuality is wrong.
x2Ice2x 1 year ago
@x2Ice2x
EnterWittyPhraseHere 1 year ago
@x2Ice2x
EnterWittyPhraseHere 1 year ago
@x2Ice2x
EnterWittyPhraseHere 1 year ago
@x2Ice2x

C. A nauseating combination of the above.

@mik2sequeb3 I don't like gay people because imagine this...your a normal straight person in a dressing room. I seem to notice that animals are always "straight"...which makes me wonder if gays are going against nature. My point of view based upon this is that homosexuality is wrong.
x2Ice2x 1 year ago
@x2Ice2x
EnterWittyPhraseHere 1 year ago
@mik2sequeb3 if your wondering upon what in my belief makes me think homosexuality is wrong look in the christian bible in romans chapter one verses 26-27. I don't hate you and if I am a prick to you it's because of your acceptance and how you embrace homosexuality. For me it's as hard to accept homosexuality as it is for you to accept that it's wrong if that gives you an idea.

Period.

EnterWittyPhraseHere 1 year ago
@EnterWittyPhraseHere Why the hell would I ever want to know about what you think about how well I can write?? You either have a really big ego or your completely mental. If you call what you said jokes...I definately don't want to see what you call a pun. I suppose you don't think of yourself as an utter fool either. At the moment we both think of each other "utter fools" how droll. "infantile and intellectually bankrupt" Hmm...somebodys sure worked up about my views.

@x2Ice2x
EnterWittyPhraseHere 1 year ago
@EnterWittyPhraseHere I don't feel any particular inclination to squabble over no obvious subject. You haven't really said anything about this "subject" and if you have you have been very round about in doing it. (through various subtle insults and random sentences on your idea's about morality)

EnterWittyPhraseHere 1 year ago

@InfinateToxin I always enjoy taking a dig at matters such as this it creates quite the discussion and i appreciate the effort you put forth to tell me your not gay i know you never said that you hate me but the words you used insinuate a drastic amount of seeming hate towards me. (continuation from previous message)
Ok man, take care

Coming out to your team may be (or have been) diffucult. There is indeed a lot of homophobia in sports. I think young men use it to defuse any ambiguity (after all, they are in a locker room naked, with other naked guys!)
But in fact coming out (if weel played) could make things change: that will really depend on your position in the team, if your teammates like you or not, if they look up to you...
You may actually elicit change...In any case, not being a stereotype is not always easy
littlebuggermate 1 year ago
@littlebuggermate I like your message, but it must be hard to be in a locker room nake, with other naked guys?
uraine7626 1 year ago
@uraine7626
Not so hard actually (at least for me) if you're confident with who you are...What I meant was, if you're a man who's not sure about your sexuality (like 90% teenagers), the last thing you want is to be called gay. So you cast the 'blame' on someone else, just to draw the others' attention away from you. It's very effective, and by the same token, it reinforces the impression that 'you're a real man', cause you can question and judge others, while in fact, it's your own sexuality
littlebuggermate 1 year ago
@littlebuggermate That's sad because you would be add to the problem in that same token. Adding hatred to your own being isn't what I called normal.
uraine7626 1 year ago
you are questioning...That's the way I see it...It is a type of behaviour that is common among males, especially young ones...They need a strong role model to 'mould' their personnalities after.
Scott could be that role model he comes out (maybe he has)....Who knows...When I was his age (not so long ago) things were also tough for me, because you wanna be accepted but those you call your friends say homophobic jokes all the time without realising....
littlebuggermate 1 year ago
half the gay guys are actually just like you, wont tell the people around them out of fear, so all you notice are the flamboyant ones, my boyfriend is bi and probably what america would call a jock and this disproportionate fear he has is anyone finding out is similar to yours, just keep in mind your not a unicorn, when your older things should die down and it will be cool for you to just tell anyone who you are, cute story

Zazoo1995 2 years ago
Oh yeah, some of the guys in the locker-room who are most "homophobic" are actually those who are most afraid of being thought of as "gay". And sometimes (many times) they are. They are just not as evolved as you and are putting up defenses. Have some patience for them, but don't allow them to abuse you. Again, there are gay guys out there who are totally into sports...many of them. Let the hate wash over you. Remain honest and brave. You will be fine. I am proud of you.
mark121959 2 years ago 6
Eh, I hate it when people make a big deal out of being gay. You know, those guys who are SO paranoid and think of having a gay friend as a bad thing, because they THINK they'll hit on them. Me, I'm not gay, but I could care less if one of my friends turned out to be. I go for personality over sexuality. If you're personality sucks, GTFO of my life. But, if you're gay, trans, bi, pansexual, whatever, as long as you're not a jerk, then we're cool.
Ignorance is the KEY to FAILURE...

I think people (both straight and gay) need to realise that you can be straight and like stereotypically 'gay' things, and you can be gay and like sports etc. Gay guys are still guys.

neokamatari 2 years ago
When we come out of the closet, we seek a world in which we will never feel shame again. We identify this world as the gay community. But in the process of building this idealized, substitute family, we often confuse security with conformity.
When others are not being gay in a way that makes us comfortable, out of our own insecurity, we sometimes attempt to shame them into our image and likeness, just as some heterosexual bullies did to us.

Bigbird5553 2 years ago 3

Vid is grt
