  • TAKES ME BACK TO BEING A KID AT MY GRANDPARENTS HOUSE SEASEME STREET READING RAINBOW MR ROGERS SHINING TIME STATION .....AND A HAPPY MEAL........THE DAYS OF BEING A KID IF I COULD GO BACK

  • this was my fave back wheni was a kid, and yeah i remember being real jealous of her fury clothes too :p

  • My sister and I, both in our 30s, still sing this song.

  • I love this song. I'm curious, the way the tune sounds....did Joe Raposo compose it? Anyways, nice seeing this again....especially since I have a better udnerstanding of the Inuit now.

  • @raakone This is indeed a Joe Raposo song

  • I totally forgot about this one.

  • I taught in the village where this was made and some of my kindergartners parents were in this. I am glad to have found this and was able to show it to my students. Many of the kids still wear the kuspuks and fur parkies to school every day.

  • I still sing a few lines of this song and I haven't seen it in years.

  • OMG! I've been looking for this for some time now! I used to like this as a kid.

  • Eskimos are also known as Raw Meat Eaters, right?

  • @ClassicSSFan80

Maybe one reason the term "Inuit" is getting more popular, wonder what that means.

  • My house is called a house.

  • @DizzyedUpGirl

That's not the most imaginative name, but it works.

  • I loved this as a kid...as an adult I cant help but think that her little rabbit gloves are kind of morbid LOL

  • I was watching global Grover with my niece months ago. I remember watching this when i was still a little girl somewhere in a hot country and dreamed of snow, now that I am in Canada and experienced snow I want to go back to my hot country :)

  • @cheeky421

What was your country, and what province do you live in now? I live in Saskatchewan.

  • I think the spelling you're looking for is "ukiuq".

  • @Ian16545 actually Ian. YOUR 'correction' is WRONG it's ukiuK with a K!

  • I remember this one from when I was growing up. I'm 25...wow

  • full on ay!

  • hot damn! videos come to mind as im runnin thru all these and i have come across every single one!.. damn i miss the good ol' days!.. PBS doesn't have that same magic like it used to.. was very innovative with the little money the had!.. kept me glued to the tv as a kid!.. anyone remember "Today's Special" or "3-2-1 Contact" or "Square One" ???

  • Oh! I remember this!

    Wow, it's been probably 13 years... *_*

  • i luv the words

  • I FOUND IT!!! I've been singing this song to my children for years, and they thought I was crazy!!! :)

  • Wow; this really brings back the old days:-) Any clue as to the year this skit was done?

  • I know this was first shown in Jan.1988

  • Are you sure? This segment, along with the other Alaska films, seems to be much olde than 1988. By the film quality, it seems to be from the 70s.

  • I see what you mean, I thought so too. But I looked it up on Muppet Wiki, and apparently, it was Jan 1988.

  • I'll be durned. You're right. I would have sworn that whole series was older, because it has the graininess that most of their 70s films had. But on Muppet Wiki's entry for "Alaska", it says the series was shot in 1986. So it makes sense that they first started airing in the 1987-88 season.

  • There's a "Muppet Wiki"? Weird.

  • One should watch tis with the Closed Caption ON, since it is NOT speled "O-o-k-y-o-o-k"!

  • He's got a point: It's actually "ukiuq".

  • @stevenscottoddballz

Trouble is, that's the way it's pronounced, doubt most people would be able to figure out "ukiuq"

Huked on foniks werked fer mi

  • her mother looks more like her grandmother! lmfao! but I love this song so much, still makes me laugh to this day.

  • @HeAvEnLyStAyFLy

Aaka is actually grandma so that is her grandma.

  • @HeAvEnLyStAyFLy I've heard different opions whether or not she said "mother" or "grandmother" with that word!

  • @raakone Akka meant mom but began to be used to mean grandma because of how older people referred to their mothers.

  • I have been thinking about this segment these past couple of weeks because it is exactly like that here (Wisconsin). We had a windchill of -25 yesterday and today...I want summer back...

  • Summers here in Australia are atrocious, we got up to 45 degrees, celsius. I wish there was someplace on eath that had ideal temperatures :/

  • Of course when it's Winter here it's summer in Aussie. And when it's summer in the US, it's winter in Australia (just in time for, what else, Christmas in July).

  • omg! i remember this one, and i also remember being jealous of her cute clothes. back then i lived in nebraska, and had to wear my brother's hand-me-down snowsuits every winter!!

  • @kitjones25 I live in California and I wanted it to get cold enough to wear clothes like that.

  • i was singing this song just yesterday... but i still don't know all the non-english words, except ookyook, lol

  • i don't remember this one but what fun!

  • I remember this skit, I used to love it. Her clothes looked so cute and warm!

  • classic!!!

  • This video is off the shizzle. I wish I was inuit.......awesome.

  • Wonder if "ookyook" is really the way it's spelled. It's sure fun to say!

  • When I saw this clip on TV, the closed captions spelled it "ukiuq", so I'm assuming that's the correct way.

  • Probably.

  • "ukiuq" -- one of those words that are in the Really Weird Corner of the crossword puzzle, words that seem to exist nowhere else in language :)

  • Aww man me too... I used to wish I was her cause I thought her clothes were cool... lmao

  • i remember this :)

  • Me too, I was just thinking about this exact song the other day and when I saw it had been posted here, I jumped on it. lol
