This is the most absurd technique I have ever seen. Use an eraser on both contacts. Instead of spending 00:02:15 on my time you could have written "Flip it over". JC
I've had this problem twice. first time it was caused by oxidation on the connectors. Rubbing alcohol fixed it. Second time it was a hardware issue. If you twist the cable it would turn on and off. Apple fixed it without hesitation once I demonstrated the problem in front of a employee at the apple store.
Is there anyway to charge a macbook without a charger? Like with an iphone or something? plz help i have no charger and i dont want to buy another one.
I'm going through this exact same issue. Sometimes it takes up to 2 hours to find the "sweet spot" just to get it to turn on. Then I can't even move it because it'll come loose. Macs are crap. I hate these bastards.
Computer over heats like f***. I'm gonna replace my logic board (left) using some parts from ifixit. Saving me the 700$ of going through Apple for it. I'd recommend the same.
apparently this is a problem with the MAC book. I am having the same problem and seeking a solution, seems like not even a new power cord fixes the problem. If you have the answer please post!!!
hundred dollar fucking cable 6 weeks old is now broken like seriously FUck you appple all your products say there fancy but there so fucking fancy they cant hold a charge on a fucking laptop TINY CHINESE CHILDREN assemble better 2 dollar shit than you
I already had to replace one magsafe after the magnetic bit completely fell off from the power chord. I got that one replaced because it was under warranty. Now the same issue is happening to my second one as well.
unplug the chord from the laptop...look at the magnet at the end of the chord. Ull see 4 gold/bronze prongs if you will... one or several are stuck and not making contact with the laptop properly. The way i get it to work most of the time is....grab the end of the chord that plugs into your laptop and whip it around till the prongs come back out. They should all be level....Let me know how it works for you....
i have this problem and apple just replaced my magsafe adapter... im still getting the same problem. does anyone know how much it will cost for apple to replace the magsafe board?? or if its easy enough for me to do it my self??
Dont pull your macbook out by its cable! i did it almost daily and needed a replacement for the magsafe adapter. if it doesnt work, TWIST AND TURN the wire till you hear a "spark" sound, quickly plug it in. This was what i did before going to the apple store for a replacement. This is a MACSAFE Fault, not the macbook!
this problem is fixable. if i was you i would start fixing it while you still have your macbook workable. it continue to do that until the part inside that your are bending will snap off that happened to mine. the problem is the magsafe in board the part cost around 50 bucks im tryin to fix mine. start searching for solution cause unlike me mine suddenly brok
Just had this happen to mine. One of the spring loaded terminals inside had gotten pushed in. Therefore not making contact. I've got a new one now, but would like to find a fix for my old one and use it as a spare. Anybody have any ideas how to repair the spring?
Laptop power adaptors are one of the most problematic issues I've seen. Mac or PC.
i bought a new macbook charger as my old one was broke so i went to the apple store they said buy this one with aluminium tip on it so it worked fine until i left it to charge overnight i came this morning and it has stoped working help!!!
i had this problem. my warranty was out but an apple retailer replaced my adapter for free and it works now. do not push it too hard to make it work or you might break the port itself. read the troubleshooting help from apple's site.
I had the same problem, it got worst every month. This malfunction comes from 'the MacBook MagSafe DC-In Board'. Depending of the model, you'll have to replace it. I have the first Macbook Pro model, that piece is integrated in the whole I/O left board(with one USB and audio I/O), so it's an expensive part. I've replaced it myself since my laptop is 4 years old and out of warranty. If your warranty it's active, USE IT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. If not, I'll do my best to help you.Tambien en español

@megaterius the first one i bought was not working. so i had to buy a new one. then it doesnt work again. am i wasting my money or not using the power adapter right? cause when i went to the apple store to get a new one, i asked why it doesnt work so the worker said cause i left the thing plugged in the power outlet thingy
@Aerochalklate It's not the power adapter, it's the inner part in the macbook itself, you (or the apple technical service) have to open the macbook and replace the dc-in board. Go to the Ifixit website and you'll find how to do it, if you have any doubts, ask me.
EASY FIX...SPRAY A BIT OF WD40 INTO THE PINS AND PUSH THEM UP AND DOWN TO SOAK UP THE LUBE...WIPE OFF EXCESS AND IT WILL WORK PERFECTLY!!! (THE PINS SEEM TO GET STUCK WHEN RETRACTED AND JUST NEED SOME SORT OF LUBRICATION TO RE-EXTEND!)
I had the same problem...If you look carefully at the copper pins that contact the Mac inside the magnetic attachment, they are supposed to be spring loaded. After unplugging the magsafe, see if the pins are able to be pushed in, also see if the pins are all uniform height. If that is not the case, one, or some of the pins are broken and you need to buy a new adapter which I had to do. Eventually over time it gets worse until it quits altogether.
If that does not work the on the bottom the is the battery have the thing in and take the battery out then blow on the connection stuff and put it back in
Boot up and see what it does
This happened to my teachers laptop and i tried it and it worked
@NecroScars Yeah and sometimes when you get it the LED light on the charger is just green and where the battery icon is in the menu it says "Not Charging"
i had the same problem there is a loose wire in the part with the light is, your going to need to take it apart and soder the wires back in there place.
i have this same problem. took my macbook in to the genius bar and they said that they part on the computer where the power cord plugs into has been pushed back into the machine...its over $100 to repair.
i can plug in mine just fine,, but after 2 years my little red light has started to fail on me,, i plug it in, signal go's and then the led die's and my mac keeps charging,, prob broken led =) it works sometimes :p
I've had three magsafe chords and they've all broken in a matter of months. My newest one was this December and it's dead as of today. Fucking Apple. I've had more problems owning a Mac for a year than I did owning PCs for more than twenty.
So what...turn the magsafe around hardly a real problem!! . This is a pointless Video!! I waste of time! I don't even know why I;m bothering to write this .... other do not inflict people to this sort of rubbish again ..... ARSE!

sorry, but Apple should work on building more reliable equipment rather than trying to maker it smaller and "cooler" - it would've prevented this failure..
The problem probably started...sorry to say by you pulling on the cord rather than the hard part with the light. 1000 times you pull on the wire they are bound to get damaged. sorry to say.
I hope i can post the video in two weeks, if you have the warranty go to the apple store and just change the old charger, if not don't buy a new one, i have a solution...
I had the same problem, until the charger didn't work at all, i went to apple store, and they told me that if i have a warranty, they will change the charger, but if not i have to buy a new one... In Estonia it's like 1360 EEK - 125 Dollars. I didn't have the warranty, and also I didn't have the money ... so I had two opportunity's - earn the money or repair the charger... And i managed to do it. I am making now a video how to do it, and i'll post a link here when i'm done... DON'T BUY NEW ONE..
i have a ibook g4 and the chager was working fine for 4 year then when my cat bit it i bought a new one for apple it worked fine for a year then that broke then i bought a other one that won broke in 5 months the i bought one from ebay it broke in 3 and a half months then i bought this new one and it hardly works ! I like apple but they have to fix the changers !!
Thanks man, you saved me from buying a new battery!!! This is a really good demonstration, accept remember that the computer can by powered by the magsafe, but if you don't see the LED then you know that the battery is not charging!
Word of advice, don't push the MagSafe in. After awhile of pushin it in, the port itself becomes loose and won't work. apple does not fix it since it was not "their." Its a hundred bucks to fix.
@lui93t15M It's not the power adapter, it's the inner part in the macbook itself, you (or the apple technical service) have to open the macbook and replace the dc-in board. Go to the Ifixit website and you'll find how to do it, if you have any doubts, ask me.

Apple is a POS company for making such low quality and nearly impossible to fix connectors. FUCK YOU APPLE!!! God I'm pissed.

Thanks man, you saved me from buying a new battery!!! This is a really good demonstration, accept remember that the computer can by powered by the magsafe, but if you don't see the LED then you know that the battery is not charging!

Word of advice, don't push the MagSafe in. After awhile of pushin it in, the port itself becomes loose and won't work. apple does not fix it since it was not "their." Its a hundred bucks to fix.

my one works fine, even if the LED isnt working.. still charges the 'book.

I have had the same problem.
-The metallic pins are built with a "spring" mechanism.
-The springs becomes weak with the use.
I have detached the plug, and there aren't solution; you'll need a microscope in order to solder metallic contacts. Virtually impossible.

@lui93t15M It's not the power adapter, it's the inner part in the macbook itself, you (or the apple technical service) have to open the macbook and replace the dc-in board. Go to the Ifixit website and you'll find how to do it, if you have any doubts, ask me.
