I'm going to assume that Ghostwriter was depressed over Rob leaving and chose to include Hector as a rebound. Of course once you show yourself to someone, it'd be cruel to all of a sudden disappear when you still appear to the rest of the GW team.

Rob looks genuinely pissed in this arc. Which gives support to the rumour he broke something in his contract and was written off. But I also have a theory that they wanted to get rid of him cause he looked the oldest and wanted to put someone young to appeal to that demographic as the other actors were also getting older. If Rob knew he was going to be written off he probably would have just walked of the show. Maybe the decision was mutual.
