Your "zoom, twist thing" is adjustable eye relief. Has nothing to do with the zoom, but it does affect your FOV.

I have a pair of the regular Bushnell Trophy 10x42's one of the best pair of bino's for the money!!!! You should scratch the neck strap and get one of the red head shoulder harness bino holder from basspro only like $14.99.
