When we go offroading we fix it on the trail! So far my Broncos only broken a sector shaft on John Bull Trail. Also put a hole in the transmission pan at Ocotillo. Got towed back to camp buy a Ford Ranger.

Couldn't they have found some way to lift the front of the car off the ground using the winch? Anchor the winch cable to a high point on the towing car and lift the front off the ground slightly and pull it like a tow truck? Or are they too heavy for that?
