They selected "practice start." If you've already cleared the stage with that character/difficulty you can practice on it with all the lives you need.

Its called graze. You get a small hitbox. If the bullets hit you in dead center, then you die.

He's playing on Practice Stage mode. You can choose what stage you start on (only if you've beaten it with that character before), and you start with max lives and spell cards.

I've only just heard of this game, and I'm not familiar with the "bullet hell" "manic" shoot 'em ups. (I'm only familiar with the standard kind like Gradius 3, Thunderforce 3, Gun Nac, Axelay, Galaga, etc.)

I have some questions:

1. How is it possible to avoid all those bullets, or is it okay to be hit with some bullets, since this player seems to have been hit with some?

2. Where can I buy this?

3. Is there an English translation?

4. How do manic shooters work?

It makes it a lot easier to dodge, but the game is still very hard on Lunatic mode, the hardest setting. Plus, the Extra Stage is murder.

Extra Stages are typically easier than the Lunatic modes...

can't vouch for PCB though because 1) not beat PCB on Normal yet (lol I suck) and 2) I've heard Phantasm is fifty metric tonnes of madness.

But still, I can beat IN Extra almost flawlessly and not come close to being able to finish the Hard mode regular game...

In my opnion, Extra has been, in each and every game, somewhere between Hard and Lunatic.

Phantasm is actually the same- It's basically Extra, with some extra patterns, a more forgiving 1-up system, and several patterns which are actually EASIER than their extra counterparts.

And by the time you get to Phantasm, the patterns will have been engraved into your memory already, making the level a piece of cake.
