You can find my new interview with Travis Campbell by Googling us!
Now that Google has bought TopFriends and SuperPoke creator Slide, many powerful sites have started treating Google Me as fact. Also the fact that Google has secretly been pouring 100s of millions into Zynga behing the scenes lends credence too.
@dangarbe - Yes Daniel I HAD to read a script to be able to stay focused and get through this in one shot. You point is well taken though. I need is a good teleprompter. LOL
Short videos do much better than long ones on YouTube. But I tried doing the 2 minute synopsis style video and my email list complained fiercely.
It seems I am well known for long complete rants almost if you will so I stuck with my less than optimal for YouTube style.
Thanks for the feedback and your good words! - Chris
@IamChrisLang - I believe you should focus on being truly global, as you already are, and have a discourse that embraces both the Americas, Europe and Asia....
This is pretty intense Chris. It is interesting to see how the visionaries in these huge companies are always planning and strategizing. I hope they get it together cause in the end it is good to have other options available. Facebook is great but they seem to have a lot of confining rules that are one sided. As a social platform they seem to have dropped the ball in consulting with the users. With Google they leave the usability all in the hands of the users.
If Google Me becomes a reality and integrates in a highly integrated usable manner...then it's for me.
And like you've said, with a generation growing up google, this would have immeasurable implications in the marketing and advertising space...now we could access the web and mobile, from the same interface...WOW!
I personally like Google Me...instead of googling it, someone can google me...it makes google personal again...whaddaya think?
@danaterrypettigrew - You bring lots of thoughts to mind here, let me elaborate....
The problem with how most see social feeds, like Twitter, as a way to disseminate or distribute their own content is where most fail in social marketing endeavors.
If Google can bring "New Content" to my Google Me wall, helping me find items of extreme interest by aggregating the participation of my friends and people I have already forged a relationship with they could have something
@danaterrypettigrew - A good point was made on the Facebook post to this video.
The allure and what made Digg fun was the challenge of getting front page on Digg where you take off with tons more Diggs and MEGA traffic to the post.
That made Digg fun, it was a challenge. It was not easy. The pay off was like hitting the lottery.
If Google brings FUN and VALUE to a Google Me app then they could succeed. There has to be something new and valuable to marketers that FB lacks.
From a social networking standpoint, Google has been a dud. From an online marketing standpoint, marketers haven't figured out how to monetize the wacky layout so far (besides Chris I mean), but I have to be honest - I love the current set up and if they can integrate the whole thing, I'd have died and gone to heaven. Let's hope that not only Chris gets it right with his prediction, but that Google follows that up with an awesome site that gets people to WANT to Google YOU . . . I mean, ME
WOW. its about time google got their act together. I use many of the google tools and generally speaking find the individual tools useful but get frustrated when they keep moving the goal posts and changing things around without us in on the why and how.
Its a constant battle trying to keep up with them, and their interaction with us mere mortals is terrible, if they are going to build a social system lets hope they develop some social skill of their own at the same time !!!!
thanks for the valuable insight and predictions about the possibilities of google coming up with a super social system. like many others in the comments i would agree that they (google) really do need to get this one right. everything at the moment is too fragmented. yes I appreciate that you can access much of what is available from your g mail or google accounts area, but it is still messy shooting around from place to the other.
Great predictions Chris. Looks Like a war is Hotting here. My only concern is that Google patch everything together in such a way as to make it more user friendly instead of a bit here and bit there.
Facebook have a pretty good interface so lets hope Google Me can get their act together on this one.
Thanks for this Chris. It's interesting to observe Facebook having started at social, now backdoor search (profiles), and Google having lead with search, now backdoor social. I disagree, however, the way Google is setup, it can fail again and still thrive. Facebook on the other hand, has much less room for failure.
I've been watching Google Me news closely. The entire business model of Faceplant Games(my business) is heavily integrated with Friend Connect and Wave. These tools allow me to bring a VERY social and powerful experience to my users. Now with all the Google Me hype, we're hopefully seeing something, about to emerge, that will tie it all together. I suspect it will also make all of Google's existing apps even more powerful. I have no problem with Google Me, very simple and to the point.
If Google integrates all the points Chris mentioned in this video; I'm all in. If Google is committed to launching a social media platform, then they need to bring together all the fantastic services they provide from Google Talk, Google Buzz, Google Wave, Google Friend Connect, Google Voice.
All of their current services are too disconnected. Bringing them together in a Google social media platform will be a winner for Google.
@amitich - Facebook was originally supposed to supply that functionality in many ways back in 2008. But think about it, Google went the opposite direction most social sites launch.
Also Google's deep pockets allow to buy things like ITA Software.
Gmail > Gchat > Google Reader > GFC > Google Wave > Google Buzz > Public Google Voice > Google Me
Rather than building the wall and adding bricks, they built the bricks first, now the wall is simply those bricks piled together. Am I not right?
@amitich for me it has to be an actual site, not just a little service google provides that lives in another site, like buzz is with gmail. it has to be like a googleme(dot)com.
also i would love to see it support html. like myspace did, so i can get a background on my profile, and so i can embed video into my profile, that would make it a winner in my book
Kevin Rose is still a credible source. This has all been part of what we've discussed since 2008. Took longer for Google me to be rolled out than we speculated but maybe that's how they wanted it to build up the hype for it. Way to put the pieces of evidence together Chris. I look forward to how this plays out.
@alexanderalaric - Notice how Kevin Rose got world wide press on this. If it turns out to be a hoax, he would be thru in social media.
With the relaunch of Digg coming up soon, he is not going to shoot himself in the foot like that. Just one more reason why Google Me could be true Alexander!
I have 2 young children who will soon be venturing into social media. As you say, the schools are using the google apps because they allow them to be more productive. I read some where that the first 3 years of a childs education will be out of date in their 4th year. Everything is changing so fast. I must say that facebook has only had one change I could be wrong. Facebook does not seem to be in the inovation business unlike google. ==> Facebook eats pie - Google makes pi
@socialoutlaws - You are very right on the public schools thing. Oregon just added Google apps to the state public schools there. Big feather in Google's cap.
I'm looking forward to seeing what Google Me looks like. My gut tells me that Google won't make the same mistakes that they did on Wave and Buzz. But beating Facebook is still going to be a huge mountain to climb. But the one thing that is certain is that in our online world today's leader can become the tomorrow's has been.

Hi Chris,
You have great insight to Google world.
This video, though, came over as someone reading a text.
I suggest you cut down info and make it an easier digest.
Perhaps 2 or 3 digests, set along side each other.
But thnaks, many thanks for your inspiration.

@IamChrisLang - YES to you TOO. :-D
I understand and I believe in what you are doing.
And I would see it as very promising that you and I could team up some day.
Another quirk is that you seem TOO focused on US Americans, when in actual fact you reach out far more than than the US alone.
You Americans, north central or south, have this paranoia about being the centre of the world. Did Columbus give you that?!?

Great information Chris! It would be awesome if Google put all of these missing links together and came out with the ultimate social network.
