@GaxAngel Pshhh cable management shmable management. It's all a waste of time. This computer has plenty of airflow and runs extremely cool. As far as I'm concerned bad cable management is good cable management. The way I see it, having more cables everywhere gives the dust a place to get trapped out in the open in the middle of the case for you to clean out easily, in a place that wouldn't harm any hardware. =]
@SamWilber I have a huge air purifier in the middle of my room. In fact it technically makes it worse since it uses the power of negative ions to reduce the particles in the air. By doing so, the dust sticks to things, but it definitely makes the air more breathable.
CAGE FREE tells you the chicken that made the egg was treated well and not kept in a cage usualy there are regulation to have that label like a certian amount of space for them to run around
Hey DJ, a few SSD Tips. First google "optimizing precious solid state storage". It's by Tom's Hardware and some of the tips are overboard, but there are a lot of good tips. (Take it with a grain of salt.)
Also, there is a bug with all the Crucial M4s (I have the 128GB) and updating the firmware will eliminate the issue. It basically will BSOD every hour after 216 days of power-on time. Just google it and update to 0309 firmware. It's safe and pretty easy. It shouldn't affect any of your data.
@VleraBrite I need help! I bought a NVIDIA 8600 gts 512mb gddr3 to mount on a Asus P5VDC-MX motherboard, when I turn the computer there's no image on the screen and everything runs ok! The power supply is a old 550W without sata power plug and i use an adapter to power the graphic card. Is my motherboard not compatible or is the power supply that does not have enough power?
@PrOsY2 In that case it should work fine. Try reseating the card and check if your molex-pcie adapter is connected properly. Those things are usually loose on old power supplies. Also check if the fan of the video card is spinning.
There's people on the street, getting diseases from monkeys. That's what I said, they're getting diseases from monkeys. Now there's junkies with monkey disease. Who's touching the monkeys? Please, leave these poor, sick monkeys alone. They got problems enough as it is.
DJ, isn't it bad to keep your computer on the floor? Because that's giving the dust bunnies a place to live. Oh and when you build the new PC you're gonna keep all the same hard drives? Because they're still pretty expensive because of the floods in Thailand a while back.
You should thread something through the fan vents to stop the fans spinning if you're going to clean out the dust like that, if the fans spin faster than they are supposed to they could break, that's why compressed air is probably better as you can avoid blowing into the fans so much. Also you should try tucking some cables round the other side of the case so the airflow in the case is better and it collects less duct.
leaf blower on the computer seems a little sketchy but it looks like it worked well :P I usually just vacuum mine out whenever I'm having issues with overheating or when I rebuild it.
also dont get the new ivy bridge processors when they first come out. bad idea. although they will be insanely fast, you're going to end up spending over $3000.
@VleraBrite Hey DJ do you need help getting a full build for your computer? I could help you if you want... :D I like following the bleeding edge of PC tech lol Message me if you need any help =)
Yea thanks I just did the same, the fans spinning caused a back EMF and fused the power supply, and the computer no longer boots, Plugging in caused the circuit to breakdown in the wall, and the cable overheated causing a fire, and my house burned down and now we are homeless, We are coming to live with you.
LOL looks like investing in a cheap leaf blower instead of paying 5-10$ a pop for cans of air is a good investment! You can always make it so your fans in computer dont blow if you are worried about ruining them i've used toothpicks and other random goodies when I use compressed air.
Hard drive has an issue? Easy: Spinrite. It is the BEST hard drive tool. It will fix every single error 100% of the time. Best tool, hands down.
PS: Getting the new processors right when it comes out is the worst idea. The first chipset almost always sucks, and then you may need to get a new motherboard just to have your computer work properly.
PS: You have the nehalem cpu, right? The new intel chips are the update to nehalem.
PPS: quad channel ram. SO MUCH OF IT. 32 gigs, min

can you give me recommendations on what parts to buy for a computer? my computer right now has a lot of latency when im trying to record guitar because i just got a cheap computer at the store and it has a horrible sound card. I dont want to even try messing around in it because it has a super small case.
@evsboy123 What are the computer specs? And what's your budget for a new one? You don't need to go crazy with the parts you buy. Check out newegg.com. They have packages called "DIY PC Combos" that you put together. The other component you'll want to get is an audio interface. If your just wanting something basic for guitar, Line 6 has some great stuff. You can also check out Presonus. They've got some great, affordable units that will take care of latency issues. PM me if you got any questions.
This made me curious about how dusty my computer of over 5 years is considering I've never made an attempt to clean it. So I just looked in some holes from the outside and holyyy shit. O.O
@LXnavarro23 Most will agree MAC's are better, but few will argue PC's are better. I willing to bet you'll find your MAC more reliable than any PC (windows).
@ihavenousernamelol2 The OS is much more stable. I understand that the hardware is really not much different, but it's all about having a stable operating system. When you have to pump out the amount i do in a work week, windows doesn't stand a chance. been there done that and Apple's OS has been flawless for me.
one more side note you may need to change the id and or serial # of the new hdd to match the old one to avoid windows activation the fun of calling India and other issues although your cloning software may do this also.
@agent96 It's all good, we already got it working today, the vlog just got too long so it's spilling over into tomorrow. This vlog wouldn't be edited and uploaded right now if we didn't haha. SPOILER!
vacuum works good if your worried about static just ground yourself touch metal of vacuum to the chassis of the case then no worries about static you like in Florida as do i you wont see much static here unless its really cold the humidity prevents static charge now is under 50% relative humility then there could be a issue another great way to dedust your pc is air compressor just hold your fans while blowing it out.dust can cause allkinds of problems along with shorting connections on mobo
Is it possible to make it so dust never goes on the computer and build up? That can't be good for anything. I realize my computer has a WHOLE LAYER of dust on the fan :(
This was one of the best vlogs lol it makes me want to go build a computer lol be sure to vlog the changing of hard drives and installation and all that
I think when you use air canisters, or em leaf blowers(;D), you are supposed to block the fan from spinning to prevent damage.
