D: They have TVs in the cars from the DSs. On stage 15 (and many other stages) the TV in the Astana car was broken. Contador therefore didn't know about Andy's mechanical problem due to poor change of gears.
E: Contador didn't attack on stage 15. He simply followed Sanchez and Menchov. However on stage 3 Cancellara did go at the front of the pack and increased the pace, so Contador couldn't catch up because of the sidewind.
it would have been so cool to see andy win. either way he gained a lot of attention and support through the 2010 TDF. 2011 is your year Luxembourg!!!!!
@Bhousm76 Chris Anker Sørensen is going to take it home for Bjarne Riis in 2011... Andy is a spoiled kid who doesn't have what it takes... it shows in the Time Trials
a spoiled kid? what would have happened if Andys chain never slipped? He could have potentially won the TDF. and i dont care what anybody says, a winner of the TDF deserves respect. unless your landis.
With all of the discussions about why Andy didn't wait for Contador here: they came onto the cobbles in different positions, so they weren't fighting in a 'duel' in stage 3 - where as they were fighting a duel in stage 15.. So this was simply a different situation.
lkb.... Chavanel was in Yellow on this day, not Cancellara. Chavanel had 3 punctures on this stage and Cancellara and Schleck attacked him, so by the fair-play logic Cancellara got the Yellow unfairly. I think the Saxo boys are using this "fair-play" only when it is convenient for them. Remember the day before (stage 2) that Contador waited for 2 minutes when Schleck crashed, even though Schleck wasn't in Yellow. But then he wasn't given the same courtesy on the cobblestones...
@theglide88 ... Yes but Chavanel was never a GC contender so not quite the same issue. See sipisipisips response re. Contador. However I think Contador would have won GC anyway this year with or without that.
The yellow jersey wasn't involved, making it a different situation. Cancellara was in Yellow at the time. If Cancellara had crashed, and Schleck or Contador attacked and took the yellow jersey, it would be a good comparison.

A: Contador was a GC contender and 2009 winner.
B: So?
C: So?

Why didn't Andy wait for Contador on this stage? I thought he was all about fair play?
tommycarstensen 7 months ago
@tommycarstensen
A: Contador didn't wear the yellow yersey
B: Contador had all his team mates around
C: It was not one of the decicive mountain stages, simply a flat one in the beginning of the Tour
D: How could Andy see everyone that crashed, there were too many riders, the hole peleton!
E: Andy didn't attack, but just continued riding with the peleton
It's a codex in cycling, that you should not take advantage (attack) at the moment when the yellow yersey crashes or has technical problems.
