I remember flying on a DC-10 with Hawaiian a long time ago, that flight was the quitest and most comfortable. For some reason we ended up flying with NWA up until they were acquired though.
The guy got startled when the oxygen mask dropped outta the ceiling. If you really want to see people be scared shitless by the oxygen masks, watch the lufthansa vid from the 80's.
hey wat airline are u flying cause im a pilot for united and dont worry if it is a nice day or not im sur that the pilots are experinced after you are back tell me how it went and dont worry have a safe trip
really? thats awesome! and Thank You!! i'll be flying on southwest airlines! im not as nervous as i was, after watching a ton of vids on here. it should be an awesome experiance! :)
Please be advised that the cargo door is likely to leave us during flight, there is no need for concern as the nearest exit may be behind you, just look for the hole in floor and the missing rows.
The DC-10 had a poor safety record because the plane had design flaws; the cargo door fault lead to the AA incident in Detroit and the Turkish crash in France.
Hawaiian retired them in 2001 and now have Boeing 767s, which don't have the oxygen masks placed in the seat because they realized it wasn't a good idea because in a crash the seats can be damaged
Dc-10's are cool but they did crash a lot, part of the reason is because DC-10's have three engines which is different from normal 2 or 4 engine aircraft. But Hawaiian airlines did renew all of there aircraft about 9 years ago, and currently they are buying 6 Airbus 350's and 6 A330's to replace their B767 fleet
They're actually not getting rid of the 767s, they're going to use A330s for flights from the east coast, and the A350's from cities in Europe, like London and Paris, and Asia, Hong Kong and Singapore.
The 767's will still be used on West Coast flights from cities like, LA, Los Vegas, San Francisco, and San Diego.
I wish they could get rid of the 717's they use for Interisland flights though...
I like the 717's. Because they are reliable and i think they are perfect for the interisland fleet. The 717's for hawaiian are also making money becuase they are efficiant, cheap and since they are small they are usually about 85-95 percent full on the interisland flights.
According to the Hawaiian Airlines website, in 2002 and 2003 the company completed the replacement of its widebody DC-10 fleet with 14 Boeing 767-300ER aircraft. So perhaps there was a DC-10 out there with the Hawaiian livery, but it's not being flown by Hawaiian. But Hawaiian hasn't sold tix on a DC-10 for years. By the way, why are you so rude, kalebleb?
2:07- finally, a little surprise that the mask appeared! After I stop panicking, I'll put it on. My question is if you detach the slide from inside the aircraft, how does the last person get on it?
My parents are going to Hawaii next week, and my mother booked seats on a OLD Hawaiian Airlines DC-10 that flys out of PDX. I've seen the plane before when flying in and out of PDX, and it's certainly one of the biggest planes in the airport. But it's so old, that I'm seriously concerned for my parent's safety. I've never flown on a plane that old, but my father flys on business all the time, and he's not worried. I'm begging my mother to call me once they get there to let me know their ok.
Oh gee, so sorry. I'm afraid I don't keep up on the latest planes for every airline, asshole.
And yes, before they left, I was informed that they'd be flying a 737, so my mistake. Last time I flew out of PDX in 2005, there was a Hawaiian Airlines DC-10 at the terminal, so I assumed they were still flying them.
I flew out of PDX to WA DC in 2005, and there was a DC-10 at the Hawaiian terminal, Don't ask me why, I don't care anyways. You could have given me an answer without insults, but I guess for people like you still going through puberty, it's just not possible. If I cared enough about this, I'd argue with you, but you just don't matter enough for me to waste my time. Think about this next time you answer someone online. But by all means, if it makes you feel like a big man...whatever. Bye.
quit getting deffensive. don't try to patronize me with your insults and make ME feel like the little guy, just because YOU were incorrect. perhaps YOU should think twice and get your facts straight before posting bs comments online.
btw, being that i'm 26, i thought i had finished the final stages of puberty almost 10 years ago? ...apparently not... boy, you learn something new everyday, huh?
damn Vladpryde and kalebleb both of you 2 stfu. ur using up commenting space for your retarded and unnecessary argument. get a life!
p.s. it is possible to c outdated aircraft. like 1 time when i waz conecting at london stansted, i swer 2 god i saw a pan am boeing 727. i found out l8r that london was preparing for an airshow.
They dont use seatback oxygen masks anymore because if they need to do an emegency landing, the hot oxygen bottles may injure passengers while doing the brace position
this must be a DC-10-10 becouse the DC-10-30 have round rafts in the aircraft to use becouse the aircraft I was on was a Hawaiian Airlines DC-10-30 in 1999
This is much better that the Airline Safety Video is in plain English with subtitiles. This is very easy to follow. This Shall be Manatory on airline safety video because there are hearing impaired people on board.
On Canadian Air Carriers the Airline Safety Video have two languages in each other way and shows no subtitles Which makes it harder to follow.
This is probably the only demo in the series where oxygen masks fall from both seatbacks and from overhead compartments in the first rows. Is the DC-10 the only aircraft type still in service that does that?
No, some Russian aircraft have this design still. This really isn't a good design, according to the NTSB, because if the masks deploy, and you have to make an emergency landing, the passengers are exposed to the hot oxygen cylinders if they try to adopt the brace position.
they should also mention: "in case of engine falling off prepare to roll over and die"
"in case of aft cargo door falling off prepare to an explosive decompression and eventually die"
"in case of fan disk explosion prepare to an emergency landing with conseguent fire"

It's an older plane, DC-10s.
Hawaiian retired them in 2001 and now have Boeing 767s, which don't have the oxygen masks placed in the seat because they realized it wasn't a good idea because in a crash the seats can be damaged
mc90604 3 years ago
Mc, I don't think that's the reason why the airline replaced the planes.
Plus a crash usually does not happen before a period when a passenger needs to use an oxygen mask.
