3:28 ...isn't that Al Borland (played by Richard Karn) from Home Improvement fame? I thought I saw Tim "The Toolman" Taylor being shot by a French guy earlier in the play.
England- good, too calm France- snooty, but good Germany- good Japan- good, but too calm Hungary- alright Sweden- good carrying that long note, too tame Poland- WAY too calm Netherlands- good Canada- carries notes well, WAY too laid back Austria- EPIC, great energy, voice, and spirit Australia- mild, but a great voice with emotion Norway- great Czech- good Denmark- OK, tame Ireland- EPIC, he REALLY conveys the spirit of the song Iceland- good USA- great ending tone.
@obiwanobiwan13 So, if you're keeping score at home, Austria and Ireland have the best, both carrying the true spirit and fire needed. Norway, Australia, and the USA round out the Top 5, with France, the Netherlands, and Sweden also standing out (of course, ALL of them were great.)
i cry a little when i watch this video. it just gives you a whole new perspective of life to see all these people from different countries sing such a beautiful song
Great video. The French guy practically shoves the English guy out of the way because he pauses too long at the mike, and the Icelander looks like he's wrestling with his.
'Do you hear the people sing' is probably one of the best musical songs ever written. No song combines musical elegance, modernity and historic context in a better way. No matter in which language or cultural context, the meaning stays the same. Play this at the next demonstration for freedom and people will storm the barricades.
I'm Dutch and I think that Henk Poort, the Dutch Singer, didn't do it as well as he should. Perhaps it's a combination of his ultra short text and his singing skills
well, i said the irish guy was damn good too and i never said who of those two is better ;) although i really like the austrian guys performance, the irish guy truly was the better one of the two
Leyton sounds amazing here. Cavill from the UK sounded weak, but his voice was dramatically better at the Euro Cup or Bowl Football gathering. It just occurred to me: of all the European countries, where's the Italian guy? Wasn't there an Italian production?
I'm pretty sure they didn't have all of the European countries there, but I know they didn't have all the countries total. This finale only has about half of all the countries that had a production, so it's possible that Italy is one of them that wasn't there. =]
these performers represented the top countries where they had the biggest success.Hungary had a success rate of 80%,that's why it was in front...80% mening that until that day counting all the shows in the national theatra 80% of the time the place was packed
Yeah, I was guessing that myself, he looks quite a lot like a young sean connery. Which is so so ironic given that bond was basically a propaganda tool for the British government.
Absolutely the best musical ever! I 1st saw it in Sydney Aust. 21 years ago with Rob Guest as Valjean-God Bless may he rest in peace! Loved it and this unified version is fantastic all have their own emotional slant!
Original Valjean is the best. I really like the clarity of Norway's Valjean even if I don't understand the language. Most of them were really great but a few standout as detracting from the performance. I wasn't a big fan of the US, Canada, or Australia's Valjean which I suppose is odd being that i'm from the US.
I think Japan's (lol Iron Chef) was the most unique. It might be the language but where the others had a gruffness, Kaga brought an interesting serenity.
wow...this is awesome. That Irish guy DID have one of the strongest voices, agreed, and most where what we would consider good for our style, but the very few that didn't seem to fit as well probably just a a different style for singing this than we're used to. But the point is that they were all able to mix together to make it sound awesome! Long Live Les Mis! The best musical ever!
agreed - the austrian version is also very good, just the way it was done is typically austrian lol big difference to the german version, altho done in the same language.the polish guy was nay bad either.
only the us guy... donno, that looked uncomfortable! hahah
