I can see the benefits of improved strength, but isn't this teaching bad posture? His feet aren't aligned with his hips which sets himself up for a good counter.
@WildWilde i dont think so, because then he would get a weight back.."backweight" and thats easier to counter for the uke..though i could be wrong about that :)
i tie a not in the end of one of my extra gi belts and shut it i the door at eye level to do this. you can allow the strap to slip through your hands to pratice throws
i had saved a littil fireman pole from a play set(10ish feet tall) and i was thinking about putting it to concret and using it rather than a tree. would the be effective too?
also what else works at resistance? a rope...what else?
You just do the osotogari movement. Very similar to this video.. But the difference is at the end of the movement.. Do it like you actually want to throw the tree. Keep it tight, fast and strong.
he thinks the tree is an opponent

That is tough, that rope would cut the heck out your shoulder. That is an example of hard core isometrics.

I would rather recommend practising in a group of THREE with the third man holding your partner from behind than fighting a TREE...

skylao 1 year ago
@skylao Considering it's a similar training technique to the training that Kimura himself used, I'd say it's not so important.
If you can keep training for training and fighting for fights then there's no problem.
