After colonialism slave trade, white man tried to left a crippled afrika that they caused behind, but they even coldn't run away, and the souls of all death and turtured slaves are still following them, yes until novaday
Yes, but as the film makes very clear, the big daddy chief elements of African neo-nationalism and the 'play the victim' hatred for the white male still holds Africa back as well. As the ending statement makes clear, it is a matter of selling off, rather than hating the master, that liberty is found. Cobra Verde's fatal downfall comes from the fact that he could never identity himself with the tribal links in Africa he built by living there. It was his own inability to live among Africans.
after collonialism and US civil war set free the US slaves, many slaves went back to africa and founded the state "Liberia". Few years after they arrived, they started to enslave the local africans. Today Liberia is a hellhole with the highest HIV rates, crime and civil wars. Or how about zambabwe, genocide against whites? south africa: racism towards asian+indian migrants and other blacks? so stop blaming the white man for everything bad on earth. blacks can do so at least just as good.
And do you think after being exploited for centuries and bearing deep wounds of colonialism, the former colonies will just magically become a paradise sooner than you can blink an eye?
I'm not saying that Africans are not capable of doing disastrous things themselves, like any people are, or that everything can be attributed to colonialism, far from it, but to marginalize the effects of colonialism is simply closing your eyes to reality.
@brennscheidt Why all the thumbs down? I think Brenn's trying to say that Kinski was often as mad as the characters he portrayed, not that he was a bad actor.

Masterful. Pure. Archetypal. Condenses human experience in a medium that it itself transcends.

This might be the greatest death scene I have ever seen in a film. Bravo to Klaus Kinski. He really did march to the beat of a different drummer.
