granted this is abstract, and you can draw a lot of different things from it, I like to think this: Mr. Coo represents higher intelligence. From it comes a sentient creature. This creature is afraid of what is inside it because it doesn't understand. It tries to drown it and eat it to death, but ultimately the intelligence overcomes and the primitive exterior is shed and the core essence of the creature blasts off back into space. An allegory of mankind, if you will.
