@breebw emmm ... how much is 300 dollars in USD? ... Puerto Rico's currency IS the US dollar, so $300.00 in PR is $300.00 in USA, or $300, its the same the .00 could've been avoided.

@vladik427 In 1984 I bought a New Civic hatchback. It was $18,000, which was 9 months wages. So put another way, how long would an average Puerto Rican have to work to by this car for $300 back in the early to mid eighties?

@breebw The car wasn't at $300. The commercial says "Honda gives you $300 off, to reduce your monthly payments. With the purchase of a new Civic or CRX, Honda gives you $300 (credit) to apply it to your new car purchase balance".

So basically the $300 is a discount on the car's price. The price would've been more or less the same than in the US around those years. Puerto Rican economy is quite the same than US. Things here may be a bit more expensive only because of the freight.

@KLewisChef Sorry, I did not say, that was New Zealand dollars. At the time the EX Accord (The EX being the up market model) was $32,000. In fact, prices are still on a par, with the 2010 basic civic at $34K and the 2.0L at $41K.
