I'll always be a Simpsons fan but the new ones are not as good as the old ones. That is true with all long running series. I will always watch them for as long as tehy stay running. My point is that the earliest seasons were the best and can never be topped. Trying to top that is like a drug addict trying to get a better high than their first time.

it comes completely out of nowhere and surprises you, a common trait which most early simpsons episodes had

the older simpsons episodes (1-9) were amusing, entertaining, controversial and in some cases horrifying and thats why those are the best episodes, because they took risks, unlike today when there far too careful and childish.

Haha, this is a perfect example of one type of humor the Simpsons mastered (something so boring that it was hilarious). Many shows these days try too hard to be funny, which ends up being not funny at all. The writers don't realize that a situation can be humorous even when not much happens.

Did that make sense to anyone else? It's hard to explain.

@SpriteBat i agree man. i think the simpsons is genius for this same reason. other shows try to jam and cram funny down your throat so much that it gets exhausting. the simpsons and its characters just "exist" as funny in the animation and the world they inhabit. there is cleverness and imagination. they had writers who werent just funny but smart... today we have nothing but wiki comics and writers who just look up shit online to make a joke...
