@motter28218 the thing that is funny on this is when he sprays the fire out of his mouth it looks like it's only going far enough to set his arm on fire.
was any form of this song used in Giant Robo the animation? cause it sounds like one of the tracks in that soundtrack but I cant put my finger on it...
@khayal101 I've heard that the TV theme was somehow mixed into the Anime theme, but it never sounded that way to me (though if anyone can point it out more specifically, let me know!). However, a percussion version of the "Da! Da! Da-Da!" appears in the eyecatch.
ONE MORE THING To Patrioytront & MacGrurry: Watch 'Big O' closely and you'll see that Paradigm City appears to take place in America. And almost ALL of 'Steamboy' as well.
With all the remakes being made over and over especially the horror movies. They should make a remake of this one with the special effects these days i'm sure it would be bad ass!
The entire series is out on DVD, including the Japanese version, although I'm not 100% certain that these are legitimate releases. Unfortunately, the Japanese version, on the web site I saw the DVDs offered on, costs $100 for the set.
Did you know that this Godzilla-like genre was symbolic of Japanese guilt over World War II? There was an endless parade of monsters who went stomping around & crushing Tokyo into dust... it was a creative outlet from a self-loathing culture crying out for redemption for the sins of their forefathers.
@patriotfront that's fucking ridiculous. everyone knows giant monster movies were Japan's post WW2 way of dealing with and possibly demonizing American nuclear aggression. sheesh
@MacGrurry Actually, the creators of Godzilla were not of that mindset as is narrorated on the recent bi-lingual DVDs that have come out. Mostly narrorated by MAJOR Godzilla fan & afficianodo Ed Godziesky(May have spelled that wrong). The G-creators were definately, however, trying to warn against horrorable results of such agression.
@patriotfront Uh...No. I'm sure there were those in Japan against the war, but what you're saying is way off. What about all the movies & shows that show Japan in a positive light? Space Cruiser Yamato uses the sunken WW2 battle Ship Yomato in a heroic, legendary manor. Using foul language to prove a point is weak (its called 'foul' for a good reason!), but...MORE-->
@patriotfront CONTINUED---> MacGrurry is right about such a ridiculous notion. There's evidence of Anti-American sentiment. But its not that bad(My Japanese ex-Girlfriend[yes, I know her being My ex' makes my case weak...>.< We ended 'Us' because she missed her country badly{the one she supposedly loathes}.]. If anything, they have love-hate fellings for us(example: It has been a long standing trend to do American-style weddings there. And note the English that slips into there entertainment.
Ah, did anyone notice the *very* subtle special effect in the opening of the U.S. version? The red circle - which later morphed into the AIP logo - superimposed over the Robot's rectanglar launch pad hatch ceiling? It looked *just like* the Japanese 'Rising Sun' national flag...denotong the country of the programme's origin.
same here. i tried combining watches with radio's, and gin a hell of a lot of trouble for dismantelling stuff. Glad to hear I wasn't the only one. And if you want to bring him back, it's easy to do. If you are a gamer that is
hahah! Good one! Imagine the water balloons you could make with a 20' balloon?
Along with the X-Ray glasses, the Live Baby Monkey and the Sea Horses, the image was complete.
Oh hey, we also need the pellet gun that shoots potato pellets. But due to some of the gun laws in various states, God only knows if such a thing would be a felony charge NOW.....
Do you mean the theme or the TV show? If it's the full theme (all three verses instead of just the first) I'm thinking of translating it and making a subbed TMV (as opposed to an AMV ^_^), if you mean the show, I bought it used on Laser Disc from Anime Jungle some years back.
Thanks for posting the original Japanese opening, for I had never seen it. The Japanese opening makes a great deal of sense, due to it being a continuing series. The English version makes sense, too, due to it being syndicated.
I love older anime/toku openings like this, they are much more epic and powerful than the stuff we have now. And I really love the harmonizing under the footstep rhythm "Da! Da! Da! Da!".
BTW, did you know Tokyo Meistersinger performed together again in 2006 on a TV show?
"RoBO," not "RoboT"--he actually has a name in the Japanese version. Not much of one, but it's better than the US version, where he was just called "Robot" (or "the robot," or "the giant flying robot," or "flying robot," or ...).
Well, I'll check the lyrics in the soundtrack CD when I get home tonight, but I'm pretty sure that they're singing, if not "tatte" 「立て」, then at least something ending in "te" 「て」and not "se" 「せ」.
Though speaking of translation, "Onward, Giant Robo" might have been a better translation than "Go Forth, Giant Robo." Blame it on the folly of youth...^_^
Looking at the Japanese CD booklet now plus "The Complete Japanese Verb Guide," and it definitely says "tate," in hiragana 「たて」which is very definitely the imperative form of "tatsu"「立て」, "to stand." It's definitely not "taose"「倒せ」the imperative form of "taosu"「倒す」"to defeat."
I realize that "Defeat (the enemy), Giant Robo" sounds more like "the right sense" to Western ears than "Stand up, Giant Robo," but the song is Japanese, with a Japanese sensibility (plus GR get knocked down a lot.)
Nice upload and likes the diffrences, however I enjoyed the theme American style ,But i'll take the history of giant robot anyay it comes my favorite series of all time!! ;)tks for the post!
This is really great. I loved this show when I was a kid, now my nephew loves it. Always liked how Robot would do his Karate during the fights.

@Caseymero1491 Well, it *was* remade in the 90's, albeit as an anime.

About damn time someone got this stuff out. A big thanks to "ebwarg" for this comparison.
I grew up with the American version and credits, but never had seen the Japanese credits. A rare treat.
Now if I could only have a Giant Robot of my own.....maybe the old Captain Company or Johnson Smith catalogue can help me out ; )

ebwarg 3 years ago
Actually, the transalation 'Stand up GiAnt Robo' is wrong.
It says 「倒せdefeat(the enemy)」not 「立てstand up」。
"Go Forth GiAnt RoBo, Defeat the enemy GiAnt Robo" is the right sense of the lyric.
