I must add a response to my comments below about overheating, stopping working and arcing in my light switch. Someone below suggested that I may have had the CFL's mounted "upside down". This was not the case. They were mounted horizontally around a central axis and were not in an "enclosed" fixture. The fixture was completely open at the top and is like a "bowl" on the bottom. In other words there was lots of room for cooling air circulation. These CRL's scare me!
You might think it will be OK if you leave the dimmer on high all the time and it will be fine. BUT this may not be the case, TRIAC dimmers will destroy NON-compliant (dimmable) CFLs or LEDs.
CFLs contain mercury, a potent toxin ,Dispose of properly
@MrSevenpillars make sure its not on a dimmable switch as dimmers will totally make these things smoke... trust me... i had an experience with one.. a store worker told me they were dimmable and recommended non dimmible ones to me... it worked for a few days and oh shit... then came a smell and some smoke and zap.. dead... since then i used DIMMABLE CFL's in my bathroom(it has a dimmible switch) and no problems since. :D
@MasSergioVEVO Hey.... no, the bulb in question did not have a dimmer in the circuit... it was just an on/off switch... and it was funny because I had been down at Home Depot a couple of days before and the guy in the light bulb department said to avoid the "Globe" brand CFL's because, "they have been known to cause fires". When I got home I decided to check the the bulbs in question. Yes, they were Globe brand... So, not only was the bulb overheating, it was arcing and ruining the switch. Junk!
Click my name and see a video I made with a bunch of lights, 2 happen to be CFLs, and YOU just got PWND by an eleven-year-old boy! You FAILED, sucka'! DAMN!

No one is talking about this. Great Video-- people are always asking me why my dimmer doesn't work with new CFL light bulb.
Thanks Rick
