My mum used to watch this after finishing work part-time,because me and my two sisters coming home from school,me being the youngest caught her watching it. She denies it now, but to be fair she only watched the first year or two on ITV Granada,It took them 12 years to show every episode. And the Young Doctors a crime to television programmes. Utter tripe.
I always thought a better title for this show would be "People in Brown Rooms Shouting At Each Other." Despite that, this show was actually a lot of fun. WAY over the top, overwrought, made Dynasty seem positively rooted in reality. Good fun, not to be taken too seriously.
Son & Doughters was a really bad show, but if you want sit through really painful view take at Prisoner Cell Block H my god it made the US Sci-fi series Lost In Space Look good
It was popular with old women for some reason, but it was complete rubbish and very badly made. ITV in England used to show Australian soaps non stop in the afternoons in the early 90s. However, changing trends saw most of them axed from the schedules in the mid 90s as people became sick of them. Only Neighbours and Home and Away survive on a digital channel now with a handful of viewers.
@Glenn1967ful get your facts straight. Neighbours and Home and Away still rate several million viewers daily. While Neighbours lost viewers when moving away from BBC1, it still does quite well. Your disdain for soap operas shouldn't colour your perception of viewing figures. Also, the fact that S&D is badly made - that was part of the appeal. Of course it was rubbish, that's why it was fun! No one ever said this was a well-made piece of drama! :)
I live in the UK and remember this in the early 90's. I was only about 6 or 7 when it was on. I remember this and Take High Road being on at similar times. Thanks for posting, it brings back memories.
OMG, I loved this show (yeah I know!) I was always spell bound by the love Evil Wayne had for Jill. He was horrid to everybody else but loved her and plotted like Dick Dastardly to try to win her love. If it wason again I would watch it. I have no shame!
I love it, cus it has that nostalgic PERFECT 80's sound that gives u the same feeling EACH and EVERY time, I feel like 3 years old again hearing it. LOL
The opening at the time didn't seem horrific. To be fair it was simpler times. They just look a bit cheap now by today's standards. It's still a classic bit of soapy trash though.
This is very sad but I watched every episode and would love to see it again. I used to watch it after school every day (and I used to live in england)...go patricia...
Wow this used to be shown in England when I was 8... I did not live far from my school, so I used to brunch at home and watch this.. Look what it has done to me..lol.. I wish now that I just stayed and school and played with the boys..
I remember I always used to catch the last 5 minutes of this after arriving home from school. It always ended on a freeze frame of one of the characters faces, usually after some shock revelation: "He's your son, Bruce!"
Ahhhh Sons and Daughters. Every Sunday night at 7.30 was it? Sunday's were soo damn great. Solid Gold, Countdown and Sons and Daughter's! What do we have now? Bollocks!, that's what.... I remember the very final Sons and Daughter's and how pissed off that it wasn't going to be on anymore...
The only ones I recognized on there, were Fiona, Gordon, Beryl, Wayne, Alison, Andy, Charlie, Glen and Craig, and Caroline. The other man, I fail to recognize. Given that I am not from Australia, and I only saw a couple of clips on a website, that is plenty good to recognize even them. By the way, the opening is great.

These pics were an improvement over the early sets - they were very unflattering and everyone was facng away from the camera!

I do't think the opening credits are horrific
They were okay even great back then
Beautiful theme
We see things through different eyes now but some things belong back then but not in the now
A nice piece of 80s nostalgia I'd say :)
Okay,so the story went dry nearing the end,but they pretty much all went like that
Like Dallas etc
