  • These pics were an improvement over the early sets - they were very unflattering and everyone was facng away from the camera!

  • genius

  • My mum used to watch this after finishing work part-time,because me and my two sisters coming home from school,me being the youngest caught her watching it. She denies it now, but to be fair she only watched the first year or two on ITV Granada,It took them 12 years to show every episode. And the Young Doctors a crime to television programmes. Utter tripe.

  • Last night my wife busied herself working out in the garden completely unaware I was watching her for an hour from behind the curtains.

  • The don of mullets.

  • Nice mullet on 0:18

  • there are even freakier hairstyles today tho

  • 0:18 dear god look at that hair

  • I do't think the opening credits are horrific

They were okay even great back then

    Beautiful theme

We see things through different eyes now but some things belong back then but not in the now

    A nice piece of 80s nostalgia I'd say :)

Okay,so the story went dry nearing the end,but they pretty much all went like that

    Like Dallas etc

  • Aaah the eighties...Gosh I loved and miss this show :-(

  • Apparently this song used to send me to sleep when I was small enough to sleep width ways across the settee.

  • Depressing credits just like the miserable posh buggers in it.

  • @HeathenPapistFilth Piss off troll

  • channel 5 showed them early hours at one time,i would watch them on a comedown

  • The brownest show ever.

  • my mum always watched this.

  • nice opening tune.i liked this programme.best of the lot i thought...

  • preferred the sullivans myself. great theme tune tho.

  • What I remember of this was really a whose who of neighbours back then as everyone leaving S&D went onto Neighbours

  • I always thought a better title for this show would be "People in Brown Rooms Shouting At Each Other." Despite that, this show was actually a lot of fun. WAY over the top, overwrought, made Dynasty seem positively rooted in reality. Good fun, not to be taken too seriously.

  • some cute guys. very bad hair though

  • Does anyone have any clips o Brett Climo in this show (Peter Healy)

  • I love this show, what is painfull is sitting through comon crap like estenders

  • @halloweenknights

    comon?

  • Son & Doughters was a really bad show, but if you want sit through really painful view take at Prisoner Cell Block H my god it made the US Sci-fi series Lost In Space Look good

  • i might have imagined it but i vaguely remember my gran watching this garbage.

  • It was popular with old women for some reason, but it was complete rubbish and very badly made. ITV in England used to show Australian soaps non stop in the afternoons in the early 90s. However, changing trends saw most of them axed from the schedules in the mid 90s as people became sick of them. Only Neighbours and Home and Away survive on a digital channel now with a handful of viewers.

  • @Glenn1967ful get your facts straight. Neighbours and Home and Away still rate several million viewers daily. While Neighbours lost viewers when moving away from BBC1, it still does quite well. Your disdain for soap operas shouldn't colour your perception of viewing figures. Also, the fact that S&D is badly made - that was part of the appeal. Of course it was rubbish, that's why it was fun! No one ever said this was a well-made piece of drama! :)

  • fantasticcccccccccccccccccc

  • If I remember the whole thing was horrific, not just the opening credits. I think they only bought it because it was cheaper than the test card.

  • this managed to come up in converstation like ten minutes ago and i needed to hear it lolz

  • ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahaha

  • I live in the UK and remember this in the early 90's. I was only about 6 or 7 when it was on. I remember this and Take High Road being on at similar times. Thanks for posting, it brings back memories.

  • I used to wag school to watch this!

  • OMG, I loved this show (yeah I know!) I was always spell bound by the love Evil Wayne had for Jill. He was horrid to everybody else but loved her and plotted like Dick Dastardly to try to win her love. If it wason again I would watch it. I have no shame!

  • Yeah I remember going to me grans for tea after school about 3pm in the UK and this was always on (late 80's)

  • miss this show dearly, wish i could get it on dvd

  • 0:23

Dirk Kuyt on Sons and Daughters!

  • lol this used to come on when I came home from school just before all the kids stuff think I was about 9

  • And there was The Young Doctors on around the same time too. I think it was on alternate days with this.

  • the most depressing 80's shit possible...horrible memories of this...

  • Totally, man.

You're Irish, i'm Scottish. I was 19 and into the Damned, Sex Pistols and the Cult.

    This, in 1987, SUCKED.

  • I love it, cus it has that nostalgic PERFECT 80's sound that gives u the same feeling EACH and EVERY time, I feel like 3 years old again hearing it. LOL

  • Yeh !! ABIGAIL !!!

  • Hello, i'm gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyy, and will kill myself if i can't see more of this programme on YT.....

  • If depression could be delivered in the form of nostalgia - this would pretty much sum it up.

  • Can't believe I used to watch this! I was about 8 years old I think?!

"We will find out our Sons & Daughters are what we too were once about" . . . . who the hell wrote this!!!

  • i used to watch this on lunch break from school sad or what

  • Me too. Well...the theme tune anyway.

  • The opening at the time didn't seem horrific. To be fair it was simpler times. They just look a bit cheap now by today's standards. It's still a classic bit of soapy trash though.

  • this used to also be one of my fave tv programmes - infact i used to skive off school so i could watch this....

  • i watched the german remake of S&D "Verbotene Liebe" as child, but the theme of Verbotene Liebe is better and ´the show still runs.

  • I watch the episodes with this opening every weekday on Seven HD.

  • lol...I love this sooo much

  • lmao thank you so much for uploading this I just won a debate with my husband about the pronunciation of laughter in the song!!! hee hee!

  • Australian soaps always had the best theme tunes.

  • when was this on tele ??

its the cheesiest song ever lol

  • I miss this :'(

  • Wow this takes me back!

  • PAT THE RAT

  • yeah, but she was a sexy, snooty bitch.

  • i'm only joking! they put it on afternoon ITV when i was a teenager in the uk. it was very depressing, i remember.

thank God. i thought you were some irate aussie about to pull me up for impersonating the accent on neighbors forums....

  • The full series is being released on DVD in Australia in 2009

  • Where did you find that out? I have been waiting for that good news. But really, where does it say that?

  • i used to prance about the house screaming the theme tune when i was only 43.

  • haha, i was singing it in the car the other day for no reason what so ever and Im 27

  • This is very sad but I watched every episode and would love to see it again. I used to watch it after school every day (and I used to live in england)...go patricia...

  • Wish they would repeat it. That Patricia was one hell of a fine woman.

  • LOVED this show! It should be repeated again from start to finish. It was Daytime's answer to Dallas in the 80's!

  • loved the tune used to rush home from school to catch the last 10 mins of it, im 31 now an can picture it like yesterday when i hear the tun

  • I only saw it when i was home from school ill!

  • This used to be on when i came home from school. I rememeber a character called beryl who used to wear floral printed kaftans!

  • This is a very emotionial theme

  • oh god , i was singing along , help me

  • I remember Sons and Daughters. it was on when i was a kid, my mum use to watch it

  • I loved this intro!! I used to sing to it when my Mum did the ironing... Those were the days... Very emotional...

  • wow I was so young when this was shown in the UK ....just about remember it

  • I just have to sing along - I always did!

  • Wow this used to be shown in England when I was 8... I did not live far from my school, so I used to brunch at home and watch this.. Look what it has done to me..lol.. I wish now that I just stayed and school and played with the boys..

  • I remember I always used to catch the last 5 minutes of this after arriving home from school. It always ended on a freeze frame of one of the characters faces, usually after some shock revelation: "He's your son, Bruce!"

  • more like "you lieing bitch Patricia!!!"

  • i used to fancy andy so much, such a hottie in the 80s!

  • My mother used to rush us all home from primary school to watch this at 3.30pm every afternoon

  • Haha mine too :D

  • I wish the show aired in Canada. :( Instead, we got trashy American soaps instead.

  • Tears of sadness and happiness..

Is it just me or does anyone else keep ending up on some American Sons and daughters page?

  • The elevator music in the waiting room to hell!

  • We will find out our sons and daughters were what we too were once about.

  • still though, the sullivans was definitely worse

  • Oh the memories...i have the sudden urge to kill myself

  • brilliant soap!

  • sssssssssshhhhhhhhhhhhiiiiiiiiiiittttttttttttt

  • Fav

  • It seems that mullet haircuts were the buzz style in 1986. And not just straight mullets but spiky-on-top mullets, eek!

  • Yeah I think Australian soaps started off that trend in the UK lol.

this just made me laugh tho - it reminds me of being sick off school haha

  • this is another favourite soap of mine

  • i need it too!!!!

  • I think I need counseling now.

  • Ah the good old days, how I adored this show. This theme is fantastic, sigh!

  • give me the gun, i want to shoot myself :P

  • Sons and Daughters - sheer brilliance yet absolute crap at the same time. Confusing.

  • Sons and daughters,

    love and laughter,

    tears and sadness and happiness.

We will find out our sons and daughters

are what we too were once about...

  • Takes me back to the 80's - Used to watch this just before dinner.. Trashy soap but addictive.

  • sons and daugthersLove and laughter, tears, and sadness and happiness we will find our sons and daugthers and what we choose where what is about.

  • sons and daugthersLove and laughter, tears, and sadness and happiness we will find our sons and daugthers when we choose where what is about.

  • Jeez i used to hate this show my mother used to watch it every day.

  • Ahhhh Sons and Daughters. Every Sunday night at 7.30 was it? Sunday's were soo damn great. Solid Gold, Countdown and Sons and Daughter's! What do we have now? Bollocks!, that's what.... I remember the very final Sons and Daughter's and how pissed off that it wasn't going to be on anymore...

  • I used to beg my parents to stay up late and watch it. :D

  • I used to watch this show as a baby! My mum used to sit me in my highchair and we'd watch it together on weekday lunchtimes! LOL!

  • its a fantastic soap, especially from the start. i think rowena was a beauty in that one.

  • Love and laughter, tears, and sadness and happiness.

  • This show could knock spots of H&A and Neighbours.

  • my god that realy was the pitts

  • The only ones I recognized on there, were Fiona, Gordon, Beryl, Wayne, Alison, Andy, Charlie, Glen and Craig, and Caroline. The other man, I fail to recognize. Given that I am not from Australia, and I only saw a couple of clips on a website, that is plenty good to recognize even them. By the way, the opening is great.

  • AlbieGray, the other guy was ocker truckie David.

  • Thanks. I wondered who the other one was. Thank you, my friend. :)

  • wasnt there another beginning where they all joined in for some kind of family picture?

  • Great soapie - classie opening. They dont make them like that anymore!

  • This was good when you had Patricia, John, Angela & Jill. But watching the last 2 years of this show was like visiting a terminally ill friend in hospital.

  • This is posted at Diwana.

I don't think the opening is that bad.

  • Christ I remember this from when I was really little. One of those things I hate that my mother watches lol

  • Rubbish!

  • It's repeated in Sydney at 10am everyday! At the moment, it's the early episodes from about 82. They were quite tame in the begining. Barbara was an absolute classic. This soapie was the best, I was too young to watch it when it was on orginally but I have enjoyed watching the repeats on Foxtel and Channel Seven tremendously!!

  • SONS & DAUGHTERS was GREAT!

  • Patricia was wonderful. Id watch it again if it was repeated ah how sad!

  • Good clip, but I don't know who some of them are, because I have been watching series 1 with John and Angela.
