  • What a girl!!! She showed those boys....RIP my beautiful girl.

  • eight belles isnt the only filly ot run in the kentucky derby!

  • @RuffianQueenOfRacing -- I thought that too...but I think think she/he meant the only filly to run in the Derby that year.

  • this a beautiful song a vary heart warming tribute to Eight belles now she up in heaven racing with Barbaro,big red, man o' war , and all the greatest thoroughbred legends RIP eight belles

  • I am so happy that I live in Louisville, KY and can go to churchill downs and watch the beautiful horses. With two ex-jockeys in the family and one who still works with the horses in Santa Anita, Ca it just means that much more. I love to see the horses running free spirited because that is what they were meant to do. I don't like it when they are neglected. Please take care of them they count on us.

  • Eight Belles and Ruffian....I can only "imagine" the races they must be having together in Heaven...God Speed to both of them!!

  • she was amazing so sorry it happen to her and Larry Jones

  • RIP Beautiful Belles.

  • She was boxed in early and was forced to do a lot of half-stepping while Big Brown had a clear lane. She ran hardest and best.... In my soul she runs with Secretariat and Sea Biscuit across the endless skies.

  • so beautiful, forever will you be remembered!

  • i think she ran until the end

    to finish the biggest race of her life :,)

  • That's very true. :)

  • Absolutely beautiful!

  • Thank you so much!

    <3

  • wings for a heavenly angel

  • Very true. She's running with the likes of Ruffian now.

  • @showjumper659 Yep she is. Can't wait to see her in person after I go to heaven! See Ya'll Soon Ruffian, Eight Belles, Secretariat, Barbaro, adn all the other fallen racers!

  • *Sniff* *Sniff* Amazing. Rest In Peace Eight Bells, the filly with the biggest heart.

  • so sad...I cried so much when I saw it happen! RIP sweet baby, luv you

  • Go Girl! We will always remember you . .

  • Run for the roses eight belles i love you and m iss you so much.

  • Beautiful tribute to a beautiful girl. All animals should go to Heaven! Eight Belles is doing her thing right now up in that "Big Pasture in the Sky."

  • Very Very Nicely Done. I watch in tears. I have 2 horses of my own, one I have had since he was a baby. I can not imagine my life without him or my other horse. Thank you for posting such a wonderful loving tribute to a truly amazing horse. She was taken too soon. But now she can run forever and with no pain. She will always be young and beautiful.

  • Well done - thanks for sharing.

  • Bless her

    It was just one of those things, only the best die young..

    Rest In Peace Girlie- forever now..

  • people should ban all racing drugs its unfair of what they do to the horses after the race. eight bells was a great filly i loved her adventurous spirit but she in a better place with all the other racing stars who died. R.I.P eight bells we will all miss you

  • What are you referring to? They don't drug the horses to the point where it would hinder or injure them. At least, not at the upstanding tracks like this one, Churchill, and the one where the Bellmont was held.

  • God, what a great video you have done here, great work! I absolutely cried from start to finish (I've loved this song sinceI was little). I was watching when this happened, and I was so sad. She was so beautiful and she beat most of the other colts that day, Big Brown just edged her. Again, nice job, great song choice.

  • Thank you, I'm glad you liked it, she was a beatuiful horse, with a lot of heart.

  • I believe she was the most beautiful horse in the field that day and what a fast one too. If you watch the 1st of the race closely u can she the jockey had to pull her up as she was much faster than the horse in front of her. Who Knows? Maybe the break in stride like that caused something odd to happen to her legs. I rarely can watch anything about her w/o crying as that was one of the most pitiful things I have ever seen on TV (Except 911) of course. GOD blessed us and her--she is an angel now.

  • She ran her heart out . . .never mattered the jockey she wanted to win . . she did in my mind . . .Rainbow Bridge with Barbaro and so many . . .They want to win and I hope the do

    She couldn't have been stopped from breaking her ankles, but her trainer... he gave her a numbing thing so she didn't feel anything at all. She might've been saved if she hadn't kept running... but the poor thing didn't feel the pain. She only knew she had to win. WHAT A HURTFUL AND TOTALLY IRRESPONSIBLE THING TO POST...a necropsy showed there were NO drugs in her system and NO pre existing conditions. Educate yourself before making stupid posts!

  • Thank you for saying that, it's true. IT was a tragic accident, nobody could've prevented it, except the Good Lord himself, but, thank you, again, for posting this in response to that comment.

  • She couldn't have been stopped from breaking her ankles, but her trainer... he gave her a numbing thing so she didn't feel anything at all. She might've been saved if she hadn't kept running... but the poor thing didn't feel the pain. She only knew she had to win.

  • it wasnt the drugs THERE WERE NO DRUGS her trainer said that she clipped her heels cooming off the pace she had done it before and this time it was catostrophic so shut up u dont kno what ur talkin about any good trainer would never drug their horse

  • I remember watching the Derby, and when the were leading the horses to the gate, something told me I hope they scratch that filly. I didn't know why to me something just didn't seem right. I still wish they would of scratched her.

  • Yeah. It probably would've been for the best. =(

  • You go Eight Belles! you rock!

  • This Video Honestly Made Me Cry! Poor Eight Belles.

  • Ya. Her death was a true shock. While i was watching it i was going" GO EIGHT BELLS!!!" After i saw what happened to her...words can't describe the sick feeling i had in the pit of my stomache. lord.

  • I never watched horse racing before I heard about EightBelles... Now that she's dead... *sniffle* I truly did cry when I heard about her... :'( I miss her so much.

  • I had just gotten into horse racing, and the derby was my first race i watched. and i saw this.... it broke my heart

  • Yes, it's truly a great loss, much like Ruffian. But, her death did have purpose at least. Now, the Thoroughbred racing association is having to look more into the safety of the horses. Thank you for the comment.

  • She's with Barbarro now, and perhaps Dan Folgelberg is riding them both through the meadows of Heaven. It's wonderful to see her in this video, happy and strong, the way she was. Sadly, there's nothing humane about horseracing anymore. It's not about the grace and the beauty of the animals anymore; it's about the money. If the horses can't make money for the owners, they euthanize them and cash in the insurance. But we can remember her the way she was, incredible and graceful. Bravo to you

  • They've bred out sound genes and sound legs in return for speed. It is very sad what happened to her, and my heart goes out to her trainer, her owners, and her jocky. They were all very broken up about her sudden injury. Heck, they didn't even get to say whether to put her down her not, the track vet did that before they knew what had happened. But, oh well, if she were still alive, she'd be in pain, so I guess it's all for the better. Thank you very much.

  • Thank you Showjumper...this is an incredible tribute to Eight Belles. I was there that day-one of the most trajic in racing history-the nations heart was broken once again. Big hugs for this heartfelt video.

  • Oh my gosh. You were there? That's incredible, and I agree one of the most tragic. I'm glad you like it, and I hope our nation can heal once again, especially like after Barbaro.

  • Beautiful, Rainy. *sniffs*

  • Thanks Wolfie. ^_^

    *huggles It's ok.

  • Wolfie? lol, if you don't know what i'm talking about you'll be like ...[run, creepy person!] but did you do warriors rp?

    ~~~~~~~~
    it is really sad that they race so young, before their bones are fully developed...we'll miss you eight belles!
  • Yeah... I do. Um, I guess I know you?
  • cute xD
  • Thank you. 6_6
  • oh yeah. I heard about this. So sad T.T
  • Faved it.
    Perhaps-A-Star
  • Thanks, I'm glad you liked it. ^-^
  • That was an amazing tribute! Btw I'm revved from deviantart. Thanks for the credit, I appreciate it =] 5 stars, good job!
  • Thank you, and you're very welcome. ^^
  • loved it! So sad
  • Thank you! ^^
    And, it is, but, at least she's in a better place now.
  • yeah. She's happier than she was on the track.
  • Eh...I wouldn't go as far as to say that. Racehorses love running and winning just as much as anyone else in the sport. Eight Belles loved running, you could tell by the way her ears were always perked, and she was alwasy antsy to run, even when she was walking.
  • yeah, I guess so :) Then we can say shes better off than she would have been
  • Totally. ^^
