  • Can you use a Logitech Universal remote (such as the Harmony 520) with the Google TV (Logitech Revue)? I don't think I'd want to use the keyboard for everything.

  • @videogameobsession I haven't tried it but I'm sure it's possible for some functions.

  • Why is there no YouTube access on the Roku?

My WDTV Live has that, but no Netflix. I wish they would all play nice together. Blocking urls by major networks is also lame. It makes me want to just buy a $199 laptop with HDMI output and buy a cheap remote for it. So many cable companies fear these set top boxes... and I suppose it's for good reason since they won't be able to overcharge their customers forever.

  • The price on Amazon for Revue is $154, not $99.99 as you say...has the price increased? I'm looking for a device to browse the web, stream Netflix and perhaps Hulu (although I have heard this requires a Flash hack on Android since Hulu does not play on Mobile OSes! it doesn't play on my tablet ;)

  • Logitec will work for about 3 to 6 months and then break down. trust me I had their products before.

  • @ibprofin100 I've never had any problem with Logitech. I have 2 wireless keyboards, the Google TV, and a 10 year old USB Headset that all still work.

  • The roku can be used on standard tv's as well as hdtv's, you don't have to use the hdmi out.

  • you know, instead of repeating "99 dollars 99 cents" you can always say "100 dollars". that should shorten your video by about 2 minutes when adding up all the "99 dollars 99 cents" that you mention in the video.

  • Thx for helping me decide... Going with the Logitech Revue....

  • @Jamespmaule Glad I could help. Thanks for watching.

  • Personally I went with the Roku 2 XS. All I wanted to do was turn a monitor I already have into a Netflix viewer, and for that the tiny Roku is perfect. I figured I might want Hulu+ or Amazon Instant some day -- but I didn't want another keyboard or web browser. One negative: I didn't realize Roku's don't have YouTube anymore (bad google!). I like using iPhone with the Roku app instead of the remote that came with it. And only $100--not much more than a month of cable used to cost me.

  • not sure if this has been asked, i looked, but how is the browser on google tv? is it laggy or just about as decent as a laptop?

  • @maxpain I wouldn't call it laggy. To me laggy means unresponsive. It's a capable browser. It's not quite as fast as a laptop browser but it's close.

  • great video..

thank you so much for helping me decide between the 2...i am going with the logitech google tv,,,

  • @softcloud9 Glad I could help. Enjoy!

  • Thank you for help me took the right decision

  • @geniusdeer Thanks for watching!

  • @TechHarvest I see ill agree with you. for the price u do get much more with the Revue. And I have to say the keyboard that comes with isn't cheap so the fact it comes included is great. (I think I've seen that specific k/b go for 29.99 at its cheapest on Amazon) so that alone adds value. Again I really enjoy your videos, they are really well done.

  • @ChickenKrispy Thanks for watching. I enjoyed the discussion. Happy New Year!

  • Thank you Sir !!

  • For Roku just use PLEX media server. Its private but it works beautifully!

  • great info i went out and bought a revue last night at best buy for $99 i ultimately chose the revue over the roku due to the web browser. however i have one question, i have an xbox 360 which is wired with an ethernet cord to my router and i get razor sharp picture quality the revue which i hooked up last night in my room with wi-fi the picture quality is average at best, if i bought another router for my room so i could hook up the revue with an ethernet cord would the picture quality improve?

  • @TechHarvest I'm aware what bias means which is why I stated the review was slightly bias... You sounded much more enthused when speaking of the Revue, opposed to the Roku 2. I agree, the web browser is very handy but a devoted app or channel is more convenient and gives you more of a TiVo or DVR feel. My honest opinion is that the Revue has alot to over come. Where as the Roku simply needs a browser. I don't mean to sound like I'm trolling, your review was great and lead me to subscribe ;)

  • @ChickenKrispy I enjoy a good discussion so don't worry I don't think you are trolling. I just don't feel that I was biased in any way. I'm a big supporter of Roku. It's a small company that has worked hard to play with the big boys. I own both devices and love them both. However as I stated in this video the Revue gives you much more for the money. If the Revue was still $299 I would say that it's not worth the money. However at $99 it gives you way more functionality than does the Roku.

  • I can tell u tried hard not to be. But u were very bias in ur review. It's obvious u like the google tv better. Which is odd since roku offers more content with the lack of a browser

  • @ChickenKrispy Bias infers that you have a predisposition to one thing over another. There is no bias here at all. The bottom line is that you get more content & capabilities on the Revue for the same price. You get a harmony keyboard universal remote and a web browser. You might get more channels on the Roku, but you can access those channels via Google TV's web browser.

  • love the video .hower igot a question thats not realy related to this video but could use your help...i am lookingto purchae two new tv. sets but i like sony gogle tv.and samsung smart tv..anyhelp as to the better one of the two would be of great help..thnks

  • @kelcam123 I own the samsung smart tv, very please with it. the new samsung smart has a web browser plus for the 55", samsung is much cheaper.

  • Does the revue allow free online streaming websites like project free tv or alluc.org to be viewed on it?

  • great informative video. thanks. quick question. i have dish network with a sling adapter. i am wanting to use the google tv to give me access to my tv/dvr at a television location that has wifi, but no cable/satellite feed. you mentioned that certain television networks do not allow streaming to googletv, but since remote viewing through sling is done via a secure website, can i assume that i should have no trouble accessing my sling features with google tv? thanks.

  • @robertpgill I believe that there is a Sling app in the works for Google TV. Beyond that you might be able to access it without the app. I haven't tried it myself so I can't say it works for sure.

  • Really awesome breakdown, thanks!

  • @BadFish81 Thanks, and thanks for watching!

  • Thanks, Tech Harvest! Finding your video couldn't have come at a better time as I'm on the fence btwn purhcasing a Roku 2XS or the Logitech Revue GTV for a Christmas gift to my husband. Here's my dilemma: If I go with the Logitech Revue, what happens after the device is no longer available? Will there still be support and from where? Probably an obvious answer, but my ingorance is not bliss on this...THANKS!

  • @wavydavy71 I believe that Logitech will still support the Revue. Logitech is no longer making new Revues but they are still selling them. You are guaranteed the Android Honeycomb update on it. Beyond that is a ?? However for $99, you get a web browser and many streaming options. It's a steal.

  • Great, informative video. With the new Honeycomb Android 3.1 out, I just purchased the Logitech Revue off Amazon. Do you know if it will work with a Tivo DVR? BTW, I friended you on FB...Scott

  • @RScottNH I'll be doing a video on the Honeycomb update when it hits my box. For the price you can't beat the Revue. It's the best Google TV device on the market unless you need it in a TV or Blu Ray player. The Keyboard remote really makes this device shine. I'm not sure if it will work with a Tivo. Thanks for watching!!

  • Do you have to connect to your tv box reciever like i have dish, or can you just connect to the tv alone?

  • @ghettokilluh If you want the TV function on the Google TV, then yes you need to hook it up to your cable. However if you just want the streaming internet stuff, then you don't have to do it. The Roku doesn't hook up to your cable box, so you only need to hook it up to your TV.

  • Can you play flash games on google tv?

  • @ghettokilluh Yes

  • I was reading in Logitech forum somenthing about Logitech is not doing an update on revew?

Im trying to decided wich will replace my over price cable company. But I think I will start with roku.

Is possible to operate the roku with Logitech keyboard?

  • @zulianisimo I'm beginning to wonder if Honeycomb will ever come to the Revue. I haven't heard anything concrete yet though. Cable is expensive, but it's going to be hard to replace it with just a Roku (depending on your viewing habbits). You can't control a Roku with the Logitech Keyboard to my knowledge, but you can use your iOS or Android device to control it. I will be uploading a video on this shortly.

  • you can also view anything on your android devices threw the google tv

  • Will logictech work with Comcast cable

  • @regreal500 I'm under the impression that it doesn't but I don't have first hand experience with it.

  • @TechHarvest Yes you can use a HDMI cable to connect to the Logitech Revue to the cable or satellite box.

  • @ODinZu Of course you can. The question was will it work with Comcast, and the last I heard it doesn't. If you have first hand experience with Comcast and the Logitech Revue, please share it. It's important to have accurate information here. All comments are welcome. :)

  • I purchased a Sony Blu-ray with Google Tv for the main tv and am bidding on a Roku XS for the bedroom. Should be interesting to master two different formats.

  • very very nice video! i have a problem,i have a satellie reciever but with scart cable connection,if i make scart to hdmi cable think can work on my logitech revue???

    thanks!

  • @MariolQueen Unfortunately I don't have any experience with this so I don't know if it will work. It is worth a try though.

  • You can use an android device or ios device to control the revue

  • @ghardt91 I know there's an Android remote controller app, I'm not sure about iOS. I'd have to check on that one.

  • @TechHarvest Ok

  • Thanks for your great evues and tech help

  • @rgnld1 Thanks for watching!

  • Great video, I am thinkinking of getting both devices can I put the both on 1 TV? Thanks again for the great vid

  • @rgnld1 Sure you can. You just need a TV with 2 or more HDMI ports or an HDMI switcher.

  • The Roku can be used for older tvs that don't have HDMI. I bought both, but my 7 year old flat screen tv could only use the RoKu. Which works great.

  • Thanks so much for such a well thought out, detailed, unbiased review! VERY helpful!

  • @fullervoice Glad I could help. Thanks for watching.

  • Google tv is cool

  • In fact there is an App Store in Logitech Revue .. :)

it's "Amazon App Store " ... and i will go with the Logitech Revue cus of the possibility of updating the device in the future... and thank you for this gr8 review....

  • @ksabond Thanks, and thanks for watching!

  • great Review. and i loved your explanation of each individual feature. i have decided to get the Revue.

  • @randyrkelly Good choice. Enjoy!

  • @TechHarvest thanks

  • I have the Logitech Revue, love it. I can't wait for the update. I use it almost everyday.

  • @chrispyer It's really a nice device. It's too bad it didn't take off. Hopefully Honeycomb on Google TV changes that.

  • Great detailed review! I was about to buy one of these and was hesitating due to not knowing which one to buy. Would you happen to know if Google will be surely getting 3.0? Also, how much power does each one use?

  • @REVIEWSu Honeycomb IS coming to Google TV. I don't know the exact power consumption but I'd guess the Roku consumes less.

  • as always..GREAT review. Thorough, well spoken. cheers.

  • @chronofusion :) As always, thanks for watching!

  • Great review. What did I buy? I struggled with this decision and finally settled on Googletv solely for reviewing Youtube videos. I understood the Roku did not stream Youtube. Now after having the device (Googletv) for over a month, would I purchase again? You bet. I love everything about it. Logitech Revue keyboard is solid and controlling my DVR,AVR, and TV makes life simple, plus there is an app for your phone if you prefer using a smaller device. Youtube Leanback viewer was a great surprise.

  • Thank you!

  • You do great reviews

  • great video !!

  • Good review
