  • Sweet bass

  • Where is all of the beard

  • Awesome song. Plus I have that guitar.

  • What time signature is that one break?

  • Theres not alor of ppl, and it just looks awkward in their...

  • @21guitarworld This show is from a LONG time ago. They were openers and not as big of a band.

  • i remember i used to listen to these guys every day. there amazing music brings back memories and still amazes me..

  • I really wished this intro was in the album version as well. It's the best intro.

  • does any know if the intro is a song?? sounds really good

  • @junsennnn

Yeah it is called Be Three Years Old. They don't play it much though. Dave played this song on his side project Cast Spells. You should check it out. The video is on Youtube, just type Cast Spells Warsaw Poland Track 3.

  • @Thejaycefish thanks man! will def check it out

  • @Thejaycefish Damn I just checked it out, but i must say the M&A version of this song sounds a lot better. the drummer of Cast Spells certainly doesn't have the skills of Chris H. haha

  • Tim Collis is good, but Chris Hainey destroys him...

  • i wish i could talk to chris hainey. well anyone in maps and atlases-but chris hainey especially.

  • @McMatthew23 i got to have like a 10 minute conversation with him before their set in San Antonio. He's a real soft spoken guy.

  • that bass is so sick

  • Collis rather sorry my phones auto correct

  • Tim collision of this town needs guns is better than Chris and Dave from mtb

  • One of my favorite things about this band is how organic their records sound. Compared to their live performances, their recordings sound like only the volume the instruments had been changed. That's a good thing. They're great!

  • Lol so much fucking wanking, glad they grew up and changed. Pretty weird how you guys are so impressed by fast tapping. Do any of you actually play the guitar well?

  • The talent and precision the drummer has is FUCKIN' staggering to say the least. He truly is inspiring.

  • tapping mania ;D

  • by far,the best indie guitarist

  • @TristanTheMonsta I think I could name quite a few off my head that are better like dave from minus the bear and tiger from morning teleportation. If you haven't heard morning teleportation seriously check them out. Some of the most catchy but frantic and pretty complicated guitar i have heard in a while. Too each there own though. Not bashing or anything just giving my opinion.

  • God, this drummer.

  • truly one the most amazing bands out there. period.

  • Cool

  • Wish they would have stuck with this sound.

  • @from93till Yeah I hate to be insensitive to their changing needs as a band, but this sound is so much better in my opinion then the perch patchwork stuff.

  • This is genius

  • Their drummer might be the most unique musician i've heard in a long, long time....

  • OH MY FUCKING GOD!!! That shit is brilliant!!! I think I am in love!

  • @bbeaup I could show you videos of him doing shit thatll blow your mind... these guys are crazy

  • For you non guitary savvy people, the singer is basically doing jack shit on the guitar at 1:10. Bothers the hell out of me.

  • @bbeaup Well, it's easy to just sit there on your ass and critique the guy. Maybe you should of thought about these two things before your comment. One, he was a probably a bit tired after playing so many odd songs within that night, let alone that week of touring. And two, do you know how fucking hard it is play lead and vocals. Especially like that. That shit takes a LOT of fucking practice, coordination, and of course, TALENT. So if you can play better than him, then...

  • @DaRocker21 lol take it easy man. And the part I'm talking about, he's not even singing. I don't know if I could say I'm better than him, but I do know I don't mime guitar parts that don't exist. You treat me like an enemy, when in reality I love Maps and Atlases. I just call them like I see them.

  • @bbeaup He's not miming parts that don't exist, he's definitely playing something. You can hear it come in at 1:03. It's just percussive noise and harmonics, but it is clearly audible.

  • @bbeaup Oh. My bad. I guess I misinterpreted what you said. I thought you were saying something negative about them. My bad, Dude.

  • nice that they arent writing songs to make money.

  • what song are they playing in the beginning? for the first 55 seconds, they're playing something different, right before 'The Most Trustworthy Tin Cans?' Is it earlier stuff before 'Trees, Swallows, Houses?' Thanks for the upload. These guys are awesome...

  • @puppetuh Oh yeah.. I just realised the intro isn't actually, 'The Most Trustworthy Tin Cans' :o Anyone know?

  • @puppetuh I just found it! the song at the beginning is called "Be three years old" and it's a song when Dave plays as Cast Spells. video here: watch?v=7Un920005sQ

  • More Cowbell <3

  • awesome song. These guys are sweet :)

    -No Ideas But In Things

  • their drummers fucks so much face. he's awesome.

  • I don't think the crowd understands the magic happening there. When I saw them live I was all over the place.

  • @FinlandsThunder You don't have to be all over the place to understand the magic of good music :)

  • lol it just amazes me how everyone just stands there.. i would be grooving !

  • talented band!

the vocalist sound the same like paolo nutini, hihi

  • voice

  • if you think this tapping and math rock is amazing then you have never seen the bulletproof tiger from windsor ontario canada seeing is believing

  • i agree with polobolopolo. besides, these guys are all awesome farmers too.

  • haven't heard this song since Trees Swallows Houses first came out. The bassist Shiraz actually runs his own recording business in a warehouse in Roger's Park Chicago. my band actually had the pleasure of doing two albums with him before Map's got big, Them and Karma with a K were pretty cool guys.

  • check out altochroma! - Soup of the Day

  • The bass player is a cool mo'fucka.

  • unbelievable. how many people aren't there, jeez. I'd totally be dancing my ass off to this.

  • @austinphobia34 someone escort this gentleman out of the gaybar please.

  • @Hexogenik hyuk hyuk, clever.

  • white people love maps and atlases because dave davison makes gnarles barkley sound like the fall of troy.

  • @blacknwhite6969

it's hilarious because i understand the reference! =]

  • @tom29910 :D and its troooooo!

  • any one who can make a band out of mostly tapping and timing as strange as math rock is atomatically more talented thean half the country straight up.

  • @2012itbeggins

way more talented than way more then half the counry

  • @2012itbeggins I guess 4/4 is really odd timing. I mean hey, we can't all do King Crimson. I love this band... But don't make a sad remark like that. Just lol.

  • @thepoetvirgil You've heard their other material, right...? They can get pretty crazy with timing.

  • @2012itbeggins preach it!!

  • myspacecom/thebulletprooftiger

  • @2012itbeggins any one who can not spel words rigt is atomatically dummer thean half the contry :(

    (straight up.)

  • they make good music... but that singer... *ugh*

  • @ReptiliansAmongUs His voice is like angel's laughter.

  • The intro song, I believe it to be called "Three Years Old"

Dave Davidson also plays it as Cast Spells

Type in YouTube: Cast Spells - Track 1

  • the crowd sucks..i would be waisted dancing my heart out

  • i think this song is miss-titled, 'the most trustworthy tin cans' from the album sounds nothing like this.........so, what song is this?

  • @nenadnen I thought I was the only person who noticed this, I'm really confused, maybe it's from their Perch Patchwork album? Coming out June 29th WOOOOO

  • @nenadnen from 1.17... maybe it's an intro they jammed out on tour.

  • i love these guys

  • @bangdude101 go kill yourself. please.

  • Wow, I feel sorry for those who raised you.

  • fuck your skull. you fuck

  • besides the fact that the guitarists kick ass, that drummer is insane. every song hes so precise, with that wood block and everything

  • What was that part at the beginning. It was pretty classy.

  • Comment removed

  • crazy ass guitarists

  • what the fuck do you think Hainey practiced? not to what albums but i mean. . . i feel like his playing transcends any rudimental idea.

  • what brand is daves guitar? it looks like he has restored it

  • So I found out about this band while waiting for drum lessons, and may I say, I love this band, never heard a drummer any better than theirs

  • @JAGE1849 tera melos

  • Thomas Pridgen is an amazing drummer, he played with the mars volta forever. nothing against chris hainey he is a great drummer and maps and atlases sounds great but Pridgen i think has him beat. check him out hes great!

  • This is all beside the point. Pridgen isn't the right drummer for this band, Hainey is. What more can you ask for? Does it matter what more Pridgen can do?

  • pridgen got fired after like 2 years...

  • @wakkawakka666 too much partying i'd imagine. or too good for the rest of the band possibly. . .

  • he only played with mars volta for 2 years

  • whats the name of the song they start off with?

  • lol 2:05

  • So I previously had a comment on here that said something in what others would have believed to be a condescending remark. Let me redeem myself by saying Maps and Atlases is now one of the bands that I hold close to my heart.

  • Amen polobolopolo

  • All this arguing about any little mistake they have made when playing live is stupid, and typical of all you wanky shredders out there, who are indeed highly skilled technical players but can't write songs for shit. You moan when you feel that you could play parts better forgetting that the reason that they (maps and atlases) are playing a live show and you are in your room on your own again is because they can harness their abilities into songs that showcase them as a band, not 4 individualsx

  • @polobolopolo very well put.

  • @polobolopolo ahhh, your comment is made up of pure win...you sir, are correct in every way possible....thumbs up for getting the big idea

  • @polobolopolo Win

  • what tuning are they in?

  • They actually play in standard most of the time.

  • relax buddy

  • By calling a band "indie" you are negating that very statement. These guys are obviously very skilled, you don't have to shred to prove your knowledge.

  • He isn't rushed, or off time, it just sounds different because the bass drum drones out the snare and rim hits which are much softer live than on the album. That is the bass drum part on the album it's just really softer on the recording.

  • Maps and Atlases are indie to my ears. They're just a more complex form, but the drums are so hectic over all the chill note progressions.

  • wow. first time listening to these guys. perty great.

  • You guys don't feel the rush in the beginning?

  • you guys are all quite intresting to read ... have any of you ever seen them in concert ? i have about 20 times all over the us any his timing is spot on they play faster live .. i sawl them in brooklyn and they played album speed and it just didnt sound right .... as for genre it is a form of math rock, i have head it called acid math as well

  • you dont know what youre on about. his drumming is fine

  • The song doesn't really have odd timing. The drummer rushes at times. But fuck...I still give it up to him because he's way better than me at the drums.

  • its called math rock. haha

  • the drummers awesome :D

  • would be better if the drummer worked on his timing a little

  • you obiously never listened to math rock. or a tapping band.

  • you can play that better?

  • no..his timing is pretty good...the song just has an odd time signiature.

  • naw, the part where i said he needs to work on his timing is in 4.

  • dave davison has so much talent to be able to do complicated tapping patterns and singing the whole time.

  • first, and probably only, bass tapping i'll ever see. kudos

  • look up Don Caballero.

  • look it up...there are an infinite amount of people who do it....

  • there are an infinite amount of people who play soccer... but the Primier League is the only one worth watching....

  • good point...but there are a million people who do it very well....a lot more than people in the primir legue of soccer

  • Haha, bass tapping is more popular than guitar tapping.

And by guitar tapping, I don't mean EVH style.

  • that's silly - protest the hero

  • you are dumb

  • this is cool! they remind me of "Poke the Robot" which is also a super cool band, piglet also is teh shtis

  • definitely on my top 3 list.

  • Comment removed

  • grrrrrreat band

  • i dont like his voice!

but i like the idea this band is giving, its very creative

  • Different sound. Very good.

  • maps and atlases are quickly becoming one of my favorite bands thanks for posting this

  • wow, he uses a model t.

  • i need bass tabs for this

  • I would agree with you, but their new album is sort of departure from.. most of this. It's much more independent from all of those bands you listed.

  • someone i know once stayed with them for a little while and apparently they hate minus the bear

  • If they say that they are just trying to be different :P No way can your band sound like this and you hate Minus the Bear.

  • Nah, they're totally different, imo. M&A, at least in trees swallows houses, display the double tapping more prominently, due to their cleaner tone, whereas MtB use dist. Also, with Chris' drumming and Dave's voice, M&A have a more eratic sound.

  • I can't get over "Be 3 years old"

when will they release new material?

  • what is that intro song?

  • Be three years old.

  • It's their complexity and sincerity that form their sounds. Without the complicated guitar riffs and squeaky vocals, it wouldn't be as honest or organic.

  • Congrats, Donbon. You must be three years old. Now run along and find Jacob, so he can drive the group home van straight into traffic, or possibly off a cliff.

  • donbon, you're really obnoxious.

  • welcome to mathrock my friend.

  • ehhh im not gonna lie, that's not the best his voice has ever sounded. other than that it was pretty good though. they sped it up a little bit.

  • yeh that was bad he's actually a good singer though

  • its cause he didnt have his mustache

  • lmao

  • The intro is part of 'Be 3 Years Old'. The demo is called 'Dave Song 1'.

  • what is this. this is not bigboppers anthem. whats the intro to Most trustworthy.......

  • It doesn't have an intro on the track I have. They definitely add intros for songs in concert.

  • thats from the songs they played before i guess

  • It is most trustworthy tin cans.

watch the clip for more than a minute

  • Pretty technical for an indie band...

  • thats cause they are math rock. a hybread of indie that incorperates lots of skaily guitar parts weeved together with uneaven (almost random) drumbeats or any other strange assortment of strange timing. i think that pretty much sums up the wikipedia definition. haha

  • could also be prog.

  • It's more like an organic museum rock

  • it was a shit idea for a song...Gimme thumbs down cunts.

  • Stick to your skateboarding and world record jumps, Donbon. It's obvious you have absolutely no taste in music or talent. Go off and play Metallica like you always do at band practice.

  • douche
