  • Beautiful! God save America!

  • Im such a proud irish girl right now my roots are here in Ireland and will remain here forever as I could never leave ireland for more than two weeks Ide miss the mountains and the rain and everything irish about ireland

  • My Great Great Grandmother came from the old country ....I found her on the list of Ellis Isle....though I never met her...I'm sure it took all her strength and courage to leave her home and sail to America. Yes...I am proud to be Irish.

  • Up the Irish from co.clare

  • what thaa fuck is an Irish ???

  • @ladybuggangster1 ppl from ireland

  • Great reflection of the Irish soul. Beautiful voices make me cry.

  • I never heard this song before I started investigating Irish potatoe famine, it is a beautiful song and video.

  • Proud to be Scotch/Irish - American

  • This song touches my heart every time I hear it which is often. No other singers even come close, in my opinion. Sean and Dolores Keane are extraordinary singers and a blessing to the world.

  • great song and video thank you

  • proud to be Irish I am <3

  • Proud to be Scottish/ Irish/ French. We are from the people who were sent over to populate and give revenue to the monarchy.

    Long live our ancestors.

    xxxxxx

  • I heard my classmate sing this at a recital. I was so moved.

  • A wonderful video.

My German grossmutter came through Ellis Island. Her name was Rudnick.

Other branches of the family came over before Ellis Island. My ancestors

    from Wales arrived in 1636.

The New World was once the shinning hope of the world. Things don't

    look quite so promising anymore.

    Thanks for the historic video.

  • proud to be irish! my family came to ellis in 1934 and returned to ireland in 20 years and my father was born their.god bless Ireland and America

  • My family came on america in 1934 trough ellis island... to come back on europe 30 years later, but even for 30 years, america is still our mainland in heart... I traveled twice in this country but felt like I always lived there.

  • Sean Keane best performer ever`!

  • Altogether grand. Thank you.

  • Tis altogether grand. Thank you for posting.

  • I heard it played by the irish army band

  • Grandda and Grandmother landed at Ellis Island on Jan. 30, 1920. They came from Roosky, Ireland as 3rd class passengers aboard the SS Aquatainia.

  • Thank you. My father came thru in 1917 from Czechoslovakia.

  • i saw this at school so i had to look it up

  • we do this in choir at skulll........x

  • this song is very tear jerking

  • Very flustered....

  • If they reopened it again god knows how many Irish men and women would have to land there to find work and a better way of life , now that our country is in such a state ?

  • bad song i heard a better one in music class!

  • This such a beautiful and sentimental video. Well done.

  • God Bless America!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @luxjdam

    God Bless ur father!!!

  • @luxjdam America has nothing to do with this song for God sake!

  • its country song thats why you don*t like it!but then don*t it touch others heart im not american but i can relate why can*t you!!

  • why you get mad if other people touch their heart about this song..it is written in english and i guess its country song that everybody can relate in all races not only white, black american .

  • @pristineex well, don*t get mad about the song but it is written in english that some people understand absurb the meaning of each words and touch their heart whatever race you we came from. This is better song than listening hip hop talking about sex, gangster, killing people.

  • @pristineex Ellis Island was for immigrants coming to the US, it is about a girl coming from Ireland to America.

  • @luxjdam God Bless Ireland!

  • God Bless America !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thank you so much for this! It just made my day.

What a moving, haunting song! It truly captures the plight of Irish immigrants to the US (I'm from Canada and my mother's family is from Scotland).

I play the piano by ear, and I'm determined to decipher it. Thanks again.

  • @Amadeus586

is da song not about wat hope of future prosperity brings with moving 2 america but the sad fact youll never see were u came from again???

  • i know all the lyrics

    :D!

  • i remember learning this song in 4th class! i loved it

it made me feel so happy

  • Amazing song.

Shows how the US opened its doors to anyone.

Brings a tear to me eye.

  • im feelin this

  • The only version I ever heard before this was the version by the Irish Tenors. But this seems to be even better. Five stars.

  • THIS is the version. Congratulations for you've chosen the best one, the one which talks to the heart.

  • Dolores Keane and Seán Keane are the singers in this video. they are the only version that is worth listening to in my opinion

  • What about the version by the Irish Tenors or the instrumental version by Phil Coulter?

  • Celtic Woman's version is much better.

  • @bluewater174 You are obviously American...anyone who knows their Irish music will appreciate this version more!

  • This has got to be the best version I have heard! Celtic women - yikes. They have sappiness running from every pore. Yuck. I suppose the reason this version sounds odd toa previous poster is because it has an authentically Irish sound to it.

  • great version, a sad occosion for genertations of people, idon't know why but i get a tear in my eye when i think of the chilren who left ireland never to return to see family again-so sad.

    Thanks for posting

  • You should have put Celtic Woman's version for this video. This version is a little bit odd. Celtic Woman performded this sing with the bottom of their heart . They give blesses for millions of Irish immigrant who came to the U.S

    BTW, Nice Pictures

  • 208 years ago today??? god bless those people

  • Wonderful song, behind a true story. Awesome.

  • Celtic Woman are the best.

  • i love this song i think that its so romantic

  • I also had the opportunity to see the Celtic women preform this song, twas very lovely. And this is another great version. Nothing can beat a great Irish voice!

  • I know I heard Celtic Women performing this song on this very night. I can relate so much to it because I am an immigrant from Ireland.

  • @hansakalie your still irish i the heart

  • This is very well done and so very meaningful. Thank you for posting and sharing.

  • Very nice and great song.

  • I saw them last night, and this is the first song in my short 15 years that has made me cry! Absolutely amazing, completely wonderful!

  • Great job Celtic Woman in doing this song! It brought tears to my eyes! I saw you all in Charlotte and it was a great show!

  • On June 12, we had the opportunity to see the Celtic women in Youngstown, Ohio, and they performed this song. What a great concert.

During intermission I asked my wife what would happen if the Celtic Women and the Irish Tenors would do a concert together,

We've seen them both and I believe it would be a fantastic thing to see!

  • I saw them in Atlanta, and this is definately one of my favorite songs

  • Who is the woman who sing this song? The man is Sean Keane, or?

  • She is Sean's sister Dolores Keane - definitely the finest female singer of Irish music today

  • im irish and i love this song and im so proud to be irish!!!!!

  • I saw them perform it as well. they were brilliant! Waiting for a post. Kudos Celtic Women...you are absolutely sensational.

  • Yes, this song does make me proud of my Irish/Scottish heritage. We saw the Celtic Woman show last night in Tampa, and their version is by far the best!!

  • This is a very beautiful song but there is no-one that has done or will ever do a better job than Celtic Woman.

  • a very good video

  • Beautiful song proud to be irish

  • i went to see a celtic woman concert on sunday up in greenville sc and they sang this song, unfortunetly we got snowed in and had to stay at my sister's apartment overnight.

    so so good

    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

id luv if i was dere

  • Loved this song all along but never listened to the words until Tommy Fleming introduced the song and explained the sentiments at a concert in Drogheda! I shed a tear that night and still do when I think of all the families torn asunder from emigration. Many parents died never knowing what became of their children! A terrible sadness must have brought them to an early grave!

  • ME teacher wnt tere and told us so much abou Annie Moore i luv tat song xx

  • Great Song

  • omg! was tht in 2007 if it was my school was there!

  • I'm absolutely speechless. Excellent job! I visited Ellis Island in Summer 2007, and it was an incredible experience, especially for a woman who wants to be a history teacher. I've loved this song for years, but the photos make it really special. Great job!

  • im so sad now *sob*

  • Great song really well sung.

everybody really have a lot to thank USA for

  • Joe Boland my uncle passed through Ellis Island in 1929 and never returned. I believe he settled in San Francisco......

  • The Keane's are legends!! Deserve a lot more recognition!!! Brilliant song!!!

  • First I thought it was all about the WW2..the song is good, but why is it called T he Island of Tears?

  • Most of the people that came through ellis where leaving the land and family they knew which made them sad. Coming here give them hope that they couldn't get at home.

  • Thanks for the info. :)

  • Thanks, had just got it on limewire

  • Isla Grant is the female singer can@t remember who the male is

  • The singer of this song are Sean Keane and Dolores Keane.

  • that guy whose singin it makes it sound so nice and that flute or recorder or somthing makes it sound so traditional. screw hip hop n r&b folk rules!!

  • its about this place called ellis island where all these immigrants from ireland would go on their way to the united states. some were let in and others wernt.

  • Ellis Island is where all immigrants would go to when coming in to the U.S. They where held there if they where found to be ill. Some where sent back to their home land but most where allow to stay. It was the Port of Enter in to the US for many years. It is now closed.
