My argument: Without NPH, HIMYM would simply fizzle out and die. He IS the show. However, take out any cast member/character from Friends and the show would still be great. The other actors in HIMYM cannot stand on their own. The writing and each individual cast member on Friends can stand on their own.

The storyline is so clever and the writers are masters of running jokes and foreshadowing things, which is something Friends didn't have. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love Friends, but i think HIMYM is better written.

Only thing you missed out was the people in a serious relationship / married. Monica and Chandler and Lily and Marshall. HIMYM is exactly the same as friends, even down to Ted and Ross both moving too fast in relationships, Ted tells women he loves them and Ross marries them.

And as much as I hate to admit, Ted is just not a great protagonist, he comes out a little whinny, he's the dad of the group, and his relationship plots in the show are pointless 'cause clearly each girl he's met up to this point is not the mother, at this point in the show it's clear that every girl he encounters will have a bad ending and now its at the point where he just needs to meet the mother so that the show will end

The smartest and most talented people will admit that Friends is some of the best television-writing that has ever been done. When this fact is realized, can be stated that H.I.M.Y.M. is not the worst show, but cannot be compared with a show like Friends. The biggest problem is the predictable writing. I didn't like how you can lip-sync every other line without having ever watched the episode. The main character seems spineless and is impossible to sympathize emotions with. That ruins everything
