They may have used the intro to this song in a commercial. The 8-bit tones would be particularly useful for marketers who are selling technology because it stimulates that base Mario Brothers mentality in many people and makes them want to by things to play with. This song is one of the most original tracks I have ever heard. Jimmy probably produced the tune himself, rather than sample the instruments, so I can't think of any other reason you ave heard it.

I love Death Cab for Cutie, but honestly none of their work even approaches the brilliance of the Postal Service. Ironically, Postal Service is a side project of Death Cab for Cutie. It seems to me it should have been the other way around. This song is genius.
