I have a 1999 Beetle. I must say, this 2008 looks a lot more refined, although it is still very very similar to mine. The biggest difference is obviously the 5-cylinder engine, which has got to make a huge difference in not only power, but all around driveability. Sometimes my 4-cylinder feels just a little bit rough around the edges.

I owned one of the first twenty thousand New Beetles it was a peice of junk. It had thee 1.9 TDI diesel great mileage when it was runningor not in the shop for a problem that the dealer or VW could fix I'll never buy another VW again. The VIN was 00019837 bought it for my wife as a birthday present what a waste of money.

Nice car , but why are always american cars beeping like that ( get almost crazy) ? We in europe who those cars are build and designd don't have that beeping so much .

My mom's Volkswagen Fox beeps also that much , dad's Volkswagen GTI does not .

My sister has a 2006 with the 5 cylinder, it's really nice. It's got a lot of highway punch for sure.

I like the "swtichblade" key also. They're good for highway trips, believe it or not. I've gone from Chicago to Detroit and Chicago to Nebraska in it and it's comfortable. It is a stick shift.

Yeah they do have a good ride for what it is, definitely more than enough power to get it from A to B, plus they have so much room in them, it's almost like it's not even a small car haha. I've never driven a stick beetle before, i'd definitely like to see what it's like.
