  • @gundamnitpete,

I talk a lot? You must be referring to my girlfriend :D

  • @sandersassen Knew i could coax a comment out of ya! :D

  • nicely done gundamitpete enjoyed very much !!

  • I've bought the hobbyking predator kit and the camera that it came with the colors are off and I've tried adjusting the focus and its not that clear. I'm going to be doing the gopro live feed setup. hope the focus and the colors are better.

  • 3:40 it's IBCrazy's cloverleaf antenna!!!

  • soo 2.4 tx= 5.8

  • sweet vid mate, however in my opinion the camera supplied isnt great so i plan on an upgrade. there is two rcv922 for sale on hobbyking, one pal and the other ntsc. which is better or what is the difference?

  • @Ollie101100 try focusing the camera that came with the setup before replacing it :)

the two RCV922's, one is NTSC, one is PAL. They are both really similar, but if you live in europe your TV and just about everything else is PAL. If you live in america, canada, or Mexico, you'll want NTSC, as that's what we use over here.

    hope that helps!

  • Is the video better with a go pro hd 2?

  • great review

  • thanks for this great review. you did a good job on describing the fov difference with the video at the end. I'm not sure if I would like this change also coming from the fatshark base. Yes it's blocky, unsharp at the edges (and I rarely can read OSD figures :-) but it's bigger - bigger is more immersive I think. For antifog I use a fluid which works great.

    thanks, Greetings, RCSchim

  • Brilliant review. Always wanted to try FPV and these seem a very simple way in.

  • @2012mittromney If you knew me in real life, you wouldn't have gone through the trouble of creating a brand new youtube account TODAY, just to spam my videos. Not to mention, if you intend you carry out said "beatdown", you've admitted to it. This makes it premeditated assault and battery :) Oh and don't think a fake account will help you, Youtube logs your IP ;)

mother is spelled with an O, not a U.

  • Great video. I am an older guy (much older) but have been flying R/C for more years than you would believe, anyway on your advice/review I have ordered Predator to try out FPV on my quad.

    Great presentation, keep it up.

  • And what battery would you say is the best to use in the plane? a 2S 800mah or somthing like that?

  • @torpingen that would be perfect. I use a 3S1000mah, just as a little extra backup. 500mah will power it for about an hour or two, so plenty of time for a few flights.

  • Hello again!

Do you recomend this to a be an first kit in FPV? and can you upgrade this kit later with better camera and more thing?

  • @torpingen Yes i do, and Yes you can :). Soime CP antennas, and the 600mw transmitter with the RC922 cam would make a good upgrade.

that said, try it stock first. it should work for the average park flyer :)

  • I can't find any confirmation if there actually is an AV-IN on these. I just find mention of an AV-Out. Can you confirm the predator has an input to plug another receiver? Or was that removed to steer people towards the Dominators?

  • @kilrahvp the AV in is on the right side, just like where the dominators are. When using the internal RX it's a video out. If you flip a little switch on the bottom left of the goggle, they work as AVin. So yes, I can confirm that there is an AV-In, i just tested it.

  • @gundamnitpete OK, great, thanks!

  • How can I power that Tx with a 4S battery?

  • @luanlmd you could buy a small, 600mah 2S or 3S battery to power it. That's what i would do, cheap and simple :)

  • @gundamnitpete how much time would a 600mah 2S keep the Tx on? Does 2S or 3S make any difference in signal strength?

  • @luanlmd an hour or two. The difference in voltage isn't supposed to matter, but i've only flown it with 3S, so i can't comment for sure.

however, i know the RF module runs on 5volts, and the battery is just regulated down, so i guess it shouldn't matter?

  • Great review Pete,i foud the video on Hobbyking web site so thanks for that mate, how do us noobs work out how far we can fly with different set-ups? thumbs up.

  • @startazz Well, range is pretty tough... the basics are tho, every 6DI gain effectively doubles your range (so if you go form a 2dbi whip to a 8dbi patch, you get effectively double the range).

and doubling your transmitter power, increases your range by 1.4 times. So anyone can see, that upgrading your antennas is usually more important that your transmitter power :)

About 200-500mw will get +3km on almost everyband, with good antennas(read:not the stock ones)

    hope this helps!

  • Thanks, nice review. Planning an FPV setup a the moment. Found this useful.

  • lol the explosions are great!

  • Hello, i'm new in the FPV and want to buy this kit. I have read a bit on the net and found out that i need 5.8ghz on 2.4ghz raido system (spectrum dx8). So this kit wil go together with my dx8 raido system?

  • @torpingen Yes this system will work for you with your DX8 radio. If the DX8 has selectable trainer functions, then you can also use headtracking :)

but that aside, in terms of interference, you will be fine.

  • Thank you for this review!! Any thoughts on how the Predator compares to the Dominator? I wonder if the extra money would be worth it in the long run.

  • @TeslascopeMobile No problem!

well Fatshark told me himself that he didn't design the predators to compete with the dominators. I think overall, the qaulity of the screen and optics in the Doms will be better. That said, if you are just getting your foot in the door and you were considering some ebay specials for goggles, i'd save for the preds :)

  • *le wild explosion appears* ಠ _ಠ

  • what sort of range do you get?

  • @gary246810ify 10:08 stock system is about 1500 feet, depending on ALOT of factors.

as far as 2.4ghz, with 500mw you can easily go miles, farther than standard RC control with the right antennas.

  • @gundamnitpete "as far as 2.4ghz, with 500mw you can easily go miles", is that with the standard antenna on the 2.4ghz. also, will the dominater 2.4g rx be compatible with these (predetor) goggles. Great video/review by the way, loved the explosions and "ice skating" haha.

  • @flyincrazzy With standard antennas, it's a bit of a crap shoot. Because wifi uses 2.4ghz, there is different amounts of noise in different areas. more noise on the band=less range.

That said, with the stock whip antenna, and a patch or Yagi antenna on the receiver, +1mile is pretty solid. CP anteannas are a great idea to.

The 2.4ghz module i used was the one from the dominator. I'll detail that mod here soon :)

    glad you liked the review!

  • @gundamnitpete Just another thought, because im not a current FPV pilot (im researching about it at the moment) im obviously not runny on any freq yet, would i be just as safe getting the immersion rc 600mw 5.8ghz transmitter and running cp antennas, considering (as far as i know) there is no need to go to the extra mile of buying a 2.4g tx and rx and modding the predator glasses to fit it.

What are the major differences between 2.4g and 5.8g?

    Cheers,

  • @flyincrazzy 5.8 doesn't interfer with any RC control , and has the most available channels and the lowest noise floor (almost nothing transmits on it). The reflection and Multipathing problems i talked about basically mean, it's not good for flying through things.

2.4 is used all over, but the noise floor varies. most places it's usable. penetrates better. can't be used near 2.4ghz RC control systems, so you can't use it at AMA fields. if you fly be yourself, it's great.

  • @gundamnitpete thanks again, i will most likely be flying with a "direct link" because i will be fitting out something like an easy star or the HK EPP FPV that will be flown above everything else. Therefore i wont need any lower frequency because there will be nothing between the tx and rx but thin air. I might also add, my rc tx is 2.4ghz so 2.4g is out of the question.

So say I wanted to build a tri/quad copter, 1.3ghz would be my best bet because its good with obstacles yes?

  • @flyincrazzy sounds like a plan :)

yes lower frequencies are better at penetrating. Tomorrow i'm picking up the immersion 600MW 5.8ghz TX and I'll be flying it on my quad :) we'll see how well it does.

  • @gundamnitpete Sweet, well thanks for the help and advice

  • Pete,

    Just a thought:

Video of houw u swapped out the 5.8 Rx with the 2.4?

  • Great Review, I cant wait to get mine, What Battery do i use to connect to the receiver?

  • @honda125

The receiver is power by the battery that powers the goggles, so no cumbersom wires etc.
