  • where can i find Rory Quiller's facebook?

  • yeah bing track =)

  • Rory was my roommate in college for 3 years. True story.

There, I have become famous by association. Twas one my true goals in life.

  • Very cool vid. Best 4.5 years of my life (was a bit lazy at the end haha) Loving the Lion of Ido song in the background. Great band

  • haha i agree the guys got the advantage there, but i do salute his ability to jump that high and maintain such a high GPA.

  • Nice commercial, was this done by students? Incredible quality

  • SWEET vid dude,

    the Vault Ftw,

  • it looks pretty... but i think it strays away from the main idea. its basically just saying that my school is cool, accept it!!

  • Wow, the best by far.

  • yea!!

  • this gets my vote!!! *****

  • i think this one is the best for the COLLEGE VIDEO CONTEST

  • Awesome, I hope this wins the contest.

  • I'm applying to BU :x :X

  • DANG UR A BING HAHAHAHAHAHA

  • sick video, yeah bu

  • lion of ido good song for the commercial

  • what is the name of this song

  • Rory is amazing! Love the commercial! Was it on tv at all?

  • actually... it is your height...

  • being tall doesn't make you a good vaulter.

  • actually, i was just at a camp where rory was coaching us. he did say his height helps, but obviously it's not everything.

  • i know it helps, im 6'3" and know that i wouldn't have started off jumping as high as i did if i was short, but i'd much rather have strength, speed and technique instead of my height

  • Great commercial. It feels good to have a NCAA D-I NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP at BU. Good Job Rory

  • I can't believe the controversy this commercial is initiating. Binghamton is just publicizing their school through their star athlete. I don;t see what the big deal is. The school really inst that bad. I think this is very well done.

  • i mean, no love lost for rory. he's a great pole vaulter. but stop packaging this school like a disney vacation.

  • Since its inception in NYS, a well-rounded public education has included much more than academics.

Rory earned his bachelor's degree in psychology and is now enrolled in Binghamton's MBA program. Similar success stories abound for other athlete-scholars. Very few college athletes go pro. Yet, they take away lifelong lessons learned in athletic competition into their personal lives and careers.

  • what a joke. tuition is going up, EOP funding gets cut regularly, some departments can't find enough money for a desk let alone a secretary, and the University spends it's money appealing to who? More athletes? This a public school! Get the word out about affordable education in cities, not recruiting offices.

  • Congratulations, Rory, on becoming the first Binghamton athlete ever to win a NCAA Division I championship!

He concluded his collegiate athletic career in dramatic style at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships by winning the pole vault title with a height of 18 feet and half an inch at the meet held at the University of Arkansas.

  • i went to school at binghamton and never once got the advantage of pole vaulting. i remember a lot of the liberal arts departments were broke and downsizing, yet tuition was being raised and assistance to poor students was being cut. are they spending all their money on poles for vaulting???

  • Hi adamndirtyshame.

We aren't spending all our money on poles for vaulting.

Intercollegiate athletics use funds unrelated to and unavailable to academics.

Recently we have grown, following a number of years in the '90s with state budget cuts. Yet, more cuts could be in our future.

Learn how to help us continue to improve our academic excellence at think . binghamton . edu, where you can send letters to your NYS legislators in support of Binghamton's budget.

  • maybe the fact that the money that goes to pole vaulting and other games is unavailable to academics is the problem. isnt quality of education more important than vaulting oneself via pole? also, this commercial seems like it cost a pretty penny, how about spending some of that marketing money on actual academics rather than commercials? and what about the funds for paying staff people to spend time posting comments on youtube?

  • intercollegiate athletics are funded by revenue streams unrelated to academics and not available for use by academic departments. We strive to provide necessary resources to academics. For example, we have placed a high priority on finding an exceptional dean for Harpur College who will help shape the liberal arts so they thrive well into the future.

FWIW, this video was produced extremely affordably. Insofar as it helps draw better students, faculty and staff to Binghamton, it benefits all.

  • First of all what constitutes "revenue streams unrelated to academics"? Are you suggesting there is independent corporate sponsorship of the athletics department or does the money simply get taken out of the schools gross budget? My argument is that on a collegiate level no money should be stolen from students tuition or the tax-payers hard earned dollars to sponsor an entertainment and advertising industry. College students should attend university for higher education solely.

  • Furthermore, students priorities should be encouraged to rest in their education and not in the manufacture of a glorified image of what this university is via athletics. As a prospective student I would rather see an ad where professors speak about the merits of the academics. i.e. Recruit them to talk about why they enjoy teaching at BU. Ah but alas it appears prospective students with money these days don't expect college to be about academics, they expect an entertainment industry.

  • Thus, you sit around with PR and Marketing firms and determine that contemporary youth want to see that first they can have fun and that rest assured the academics are top notch too. What kind of message is this sending?!

Mainly this form of advertising and the emphasis placed on athletics misrepresents the true focus of a college education. This is done purely to gain cheap recognition for an institution which should be recognized for advances and the diversity in its academic disciplines.

  • Part 4:That said, some universities have successfully profited from NCAA sports via ticket and merchandise revenue, however I highly doubt that is the case at BU considering that our profit generating sports, like basketball, haven't been able to cover the costs of new multi-million dollar schemes such as the events center! Thus money is only tossed to the wind in a false attempt to model BU after more "elite" private universities, while they fail to ensure the future of all and new departments.

  • Part 5:I fundamentally disagree that this video will draw better faculty, students, or staff and that it "benefits all"! Anyone truly wishing to enter academia doesn't give a damn about the athletics department. Why don't you just design a university primarily for athletics then? To claim that this video benefits all is an inherently fascist statement, because you are claiming to speak on behalf of everyone associated with BU. U could say: the Administration believes it benefits BU.

  • 6:Plus the authority you employ by claiming that these top down decisions "benefits all" is also proof of how fascist sounding your statement is. I don't believe it benefits everyone, rather only a minority of students, faculty and staff, but I know not everyone agrees with my sentiment, thus I don't make fascist style claims that what I determine to be better applies to you and everyone else. Perhaps you and your employers should learn to cite hard facts to back claims vs. catchy rhetoric!

  • I love rory quiller. he is my hero.

  • sexy

  • Wow, they made BU seem really respectable with this commercial. Believe it or not, I like the school. Great math department. Leandro Junes and Eric Sponza are the best TA's every
