@cremeofthereich I don't know if you have noticed but he wasn't exactly Philly's best player. It's not as if we took their best player and now he isn't shit. He's in a slump, there's no doubt about that but he is certainly a great ball player. We've seen that numerous times this season, in prior seasons, and it will be seen again once he manages to break out of this rut. However, he was not worth the money we spent on him. But oh well, he's a good player to have nonetheless.
@CHolmesJ14 We? So I guess you're a Nats fan. O.k. fine. Today he's batting like .225 right? What will it take for you to admit he was a total bust and that the money he got could have bought likely three excellent every day players. This is one you people are gonna have to eat for the duration, yet another curse on Washington baseball. Werth aint comin back from this, he was a head case to begin with. Collosal poor judgement, W is not a leader, not a star, can just function in a pack at best!
@cremeofthereich Referring back to my original comment, I said he wasn't worth the money. He is .219 I believe. That's definitely not good but he's not the worst on the team right now. As far as I'm concerned, he just functions in a pack. Michael Morse is red hot, Zimmerman is well on his way to being fully back, and we have a potential rookie of the year in Danny Espinosa. We don't need Werth to be our leader, all we need is for him to function in a pack. And I'm sure he will get it back.
@CHolmesJ14 It's starting to look like Werth aint even up to the whole concept of functioning in a pack. I am predicting this guy is nothing but a terminal head case a la George Foster with the Mets. The only thing this guy can do to even have a chance at coming out of this will be FOR HIM to request a renegotiation of his contract via givebacks in an attempt to come back to earth. I wonder if the slug avoids eye contact with everyone at this point. His situation is THAT bad, believe me.
@cremeofthereich Is it bad at this point? Yeah it's pretty damn bad so I will yield to you on that point. However, he performed really well earlier in the season and filled in well for the injured Ryan Zimmerman. Therefore, there's no reason to believe he won't come out of this slump. There isn't a single athlete out there who hasn't gone through a slump at some point in their career. I love having Werth on the team but I really hope he comes around sooner than later.
@CHolmesJ14 You "love having Werth on the team"????? Obviously, you still don't get the extent to which this fraud is gonna be a dead weight anchor against your team for years to come. Just take a serious look at this guy. It's not gonna get better. If you had any baseball instincts you would see it. This aint no slump.
@cremeofthereich I mean let's be honest. I see what you are saying and respect what you are saying but I mean look at Michael Vick in the 2009-2010 football season. He was worthless and hardly did anything. But the 2010-2011 he was playing out of his mind. I know the circumstances are different but the concept is the same, You don't just count out a player because of a few bad performances and pass it off as "instinct." Just wait it out and see what happens.
@CHolmesJ14 This is deeper than anything I've seen on what appears to be a psychological level. Werth is probably at the point where he doesn't even make eye contact with anyone, his fragile little ego might just have gone to the point of no return. He is playing in the #1 cuthroat town DC where he will find no mercy. Yesterday, yet anothre little infield tapper during a critical moment. Yet another sign to DC baseball fans that the team is really cursed. Seven years of this would be a disaster.
@CHolmesJ14 CTD / My question to you is how long are you willing to sit there and tolerate this guy? Right now, Nats fans' frustration is muted by their hope that this is all not out of line with Werth's history as a slow "starter." My instincts tell me otherwise. I don't think the Nats will ever get value for the money they threw at this guy.
@cremeofthereich Well I have openly said that he was not worth the money. Quite honestly, I don't think any athlete is worth that kind of money whether it be Jayson Werth or Cal Ripken Jr. I will give it a couple seasons before I turn on him. Again, I'm not going to justify a 7 year career on the Nationals with a 1 month slump. As for yesterday's game, Werth was disappointing but it's hard to be mad at him with Sean "Gasoline" Burnett ruining everything.
@CHolmesJ14 Fair enough but I think you are easing gently into the inevitable. Research the George Foster history with the Mets back in the 80's. That is your worst nightmare and something tells me Werth will probably go that route.
@cremeofthereich I don't think it will get to be that extreme. Again, every player goes through slumps from time to time. Some are longer and worse than others. Unfortunately for Werth, this was a long and painful one. However, he came to life today when he went 2-4 with a HR, 2B, 2 RBIs, and a run. He was on life support before but he never flat-lined. Hopefully for his sake and the sake of my Nats, he has more games like today.
I like Jayson Werth and the Nationals are lucky to have him. He is a good player and I believe he will do well in the years to come.

@cremeofthereich I'm sorry it was 3-5 with two doubles and a home run.
