I love how the whole series is set up like a movie. The first one being one story, the second being the sequal. Stick all the episodes end to end seamlessly, and you essentially have one gigantic movie. This series is the most splendid space opera I've ever witnessed.

Agree with you ...the Yamato was a real beauty...still remains one of the most beautiful babes that have crossed the oceans...Japan is right to be proud of it
The German Battleship Terpitz was slightly larger Bismark class (253m) but didn't get the Bismark's reputation because she never used in blue-ocean combat ops. She was used mainly to harass convoys and as a decoy to draw off Allied forces from other operations. The Terpitz only lasted five years (1939-1944) before she was sunk by British bombers but still "went down" in history as the largest European-made battleship.
It's a lovely looking ship but impractical for space combat in three dimensions: with no gun emplacements along the keel or hull (below the waterline), poor maneuverability along the pitch-axis, and a primary weapon that required the ship's engines to be disabled. However, it sufficed against an advanced alien empire whose ships were likewise designed like a blue-ocean navy as well! Whomever figures out first how to attack ships from their bottoms would rule this universe!
While this was made in 1974, pbanta62 makes a good point about Yamato's weakness against that sort of capital ship vs. capital ship combat.
However, from the 1/700 DVD Box set Yamato I have, it would have room for two main cannons and AA guns coulf also be placed on each side a bit below the water line to remedy that.
But it would take away from the aesthetics of the ship a bit me thinks...
>Whomever figures out first how to attack ships >from their bottoms would rule this universe!
That's what Domel did, I wanted to say (Yamato 1 Ep22) . The Yamato, however, need a Dessler to prick them with their noses on the obvious (Yamato 2 Ep24).
@Restitutus (laughs) Heaven forbid if they EVER started to mount guns (HuhhHuhh ... I said MOUNT ... HuhHuhh!) on the BOTTOMS of these ships ... it'll screw up the whole space - combat thing. (Read: MORE CHALLENGING!!!) lol! (Sigh!) Will they EVER clue in?!

Did those Comet Empire fools just call Desler a coward?
Lunatic, yes. Bastard, definitely. Coward? no. He even has a twisted sense of honor.
Those Comet Empire goons are fools, and they have NO IDEA what they are getting themselves into by trying to mess with earth and 'Yamato'.

2201? That's a lot of shit to get built in a year. They should've given it 10 years or so at least.

The Titanic was not a battleship. -;)
It had one sortie against an iceberg and didn't come off too well.

It is also the biggest Destroyer ever constructed... (bigger even than the Bismarck).

Yamato was a battleship ( Cuirassé ), not a destroyer ^^

and bismarck really wasnt that big, people just like the story^^

The Yamato was a 263 meters long battleship.
The Bismarck was a 251 meters long battleship.
And yes, both have been the biggest battleships ever constructed...

Funnily enough, it 'is' the Yamato (constructed using the Yamato's hull).

@THEGREATITANICCHICK You know it! It's a real tribute to those who drew up this design in the first place... they sure knew what they were doing.

aye... too bad they didn't present us a whole fleet with the spaceship versions of the Roma, the Bismarck, the Prinz Eugen and the Prince of Wales...
