Death is a natural part of the game. Only people who can accept that and have a great deal of patience can fully appreciate Dark Souls. Took me some time myself, but I find it an extremely satisfying game.

Skyrim is okay, but honestly you'll get extremely sucked into DS's difficulty and sheer self-accomplishment, definitely one of the most rewarding games I've played in a while. And Dark Souls is also excellent, graphics are very good for an RPG, and it's a 'sequel' that is actually very good for a change.

I don't wanna sound like a fan boy but this really shouldda got 10/10 from most people yes it has frame rate problems but don't forget it's got like 20+ freely accessible zones with no loading and if this game was easy, let's say like bayonetta, skyrim, castlevania easy it wouldn't get as high of reviews. The difficulty is what really makes this game, played it non stop for a week I can play it non stop for a further 10 let's hope for a new entry :D

@Crestietom Do NOT let that concept put you off this absolutely phenomenal game. It's just souls you lose, not your whole inventory. That's also if you die again on the way to recovering your previous souls. I personally handled it really well and dying was just all part of the experience! Get the game! You will realise how amazing it really is.

So if I loose souls, when I go back to the area is everything re-spawned, and also, do the bosses regenerate their health? I've always despised repeating things in games so maybe this is not for me! or maybe it's amazing.
@Neuromatsu the enemies regenerate their health and you have to go get your souls back. every single characters can do what you do. you could die from a good heavy swing from anyone. thats why this game is very serious. I rented it and it's one of the toughest to play. it's rewarding to kill monsters and beat them at their own moves. BIG learning curve.
I've always been a big fan of The Elder Scrolls because of their massive, open and seemingly persistent worlds. But I have a lvl30 warrior that is untouchable... and to be honest it gets boring. I love story, but at the same time I love a challenge. I loved Demon's Souls for that antagonistic feeling of "I cannot let this fucking game beat me." My copy of Dark Souls should be here this week, hopefully.

i have played dark souls start to finish and a little bit of new game + and i have fought every boss including optional ones and explored every area at one time or another and there are literally only 2 places where the frame rate drops. when the dragon blows fire on that bridge it drops and in the beginning of blight town it drops. that's literally it. that's like 2 minutes of a 30-40 hour game that u deal with frame rate

Playing through NG+ at level 130. Just beat Dragon Slayer Orenstein and Executioner Smough AKA Oreo and Smores the second time on my own without any help (Co-op/Sunbro). Wearing Stone armor and used only the Black Knight Halbred +5. Took me multiple tries again and the fight I did beat them took me almost 30 minutes. lol Such a great game even on the second play through.

The only reason I got Dark Souls for ps3 is because of the hardcore fanbase. You won't find it on the 360. In Japan, its only for ps3 so its going to be some tough competitive.

I really want this game, it looks AMAZING, but the concept of when you die you lose all your stuff worries me :/

@Crestietom Do NOT let that concept put you off this absolutely phenomenal game. It's just souls you lose, not your whole inventory. That's also if you die again on the way to recovering your previous souls. I personally handled it really well and dying was just all part of the experience! Get the game! You will realise how amazing it really is.

I never played Dark Souls, but I'm addicted to Demon Souls... I believe gameplay is more challenging, thou... graphics are better on Demon Souls... and I believe, even more... Just a thought of a surviving noble soul.... Living in NEXUS

So if I loose souls, when I go back to the area is everything re-spawned, and also, do the bosses regenerate their health? I've always despised repeating things in games so maybe this is not for me! or maybe it's amazing.

@Neuromatsu the enemies regenerate their health and you have to go get your souls back. every single characters can do what you do. you could die from a good heavy swing from anyone. thats why this game is very serious. I rented it and it's one of the toughest to play. it's rewarding to kill monsters and beat them at their own moves. BIG learning curve.

I've always been a big fan of The Elder Scrolls because of their massive, open and seemingly persistent worlds. But I have a lvl30 warrior that is untouchable... and to be honest it gets boring. I love story, but at the same time I love a challenge. I loved Demon's Souls for that antagonistic feeling of "I cannot let this fucking game beat me." My copy of Dark Souls should be here this week, hopefully.

Some like Skyrim cos of the story and Amazing number of content and to relax
Some May like Dark souls Because not a lot of game challenge is dump down right too easy
But most ppl have to know that dark souls did not win GOTY is because a lot of Gamer Like more relaxing game

@topografer reviews always exaggerate frame rate issues in games.
i have played dark souls start to finish and a little bit of new game + and i have fought every boss including optional ones and explored every area at one time or another and there are literally only 2 places where the frame rate drops. when the dragon blows fire on that bridge it drops and in the beginning of blight town it drops. that's literally it. that's like 2 minutes of a 30-40 hour game that u deal with frame rate

Playing through NG+ at level 130. Just beat Dragon Slayer Orenstein and Executioner Smough AKA Oreo and Smores the second time on my own without any help (Co-op/Sunbro). Wearing Stone armor and used only the Black Knight Halbred +5. Took me multiple tries again and the fight I did beat them took me almost 30 minutes. lol Such a great game even on the second play through.

LOL there is alot of fan boy fighting here okay its not fact that each game is better than each other its really based on play style and oppinion ( even though skyrim have more content and more play styles in it ) but really there is no facts that skyrim is better than dark souls and dark souls is better than skyrim its all based on oppinion and play style and if skyrim is not hard as dark souls just put the difficulty up but remember is oppinion not fact.

The only reason I got Dark Souls for ps3 is because of the hardcore fanbase. You won't find it on the 360. In Japan, its only for ps3 so its going to be some tough competitive.
